Title: Amelie
Post by: Korg Ironhand on July 20, 2007, 12:01:21 AM
Well. I remember a group of ladies telling me in the chat room (that we used to have) that they all thought the movie Amelie (french film with Audrey Tautou) was one of their all time favorites, and I should definitely watch it. While I didn't write it off as a click flick, I didn't rush out and rent it either. After all this time I'd always see the movie either in a video store or in my Netflix pages and think, "You know, I should get around to watching that, if for no other reason than to check it off my list".

I finally watched it tonight. Everything those lovely ladies said about the movie was true. It was a brilliant piece of work from beginning to end. I'm usually the action/adventure or comedy type. While I enjoy dramas and the occasional romance (though usually with company), I rarely watch them. This movie I would reccomend to anyone. It's just one of those movies that pulls you out of yourself and your own life and puts you in another place, if only for a couple of hours. It's hilarious, touching and sweet. I usually don't do "sweet", let alone recommend it, but the main character was just too sweet for words.

Anyway, I was aiming to just "mark this off my list", but it turned out to be a fantastic movie.

P.S.: I *have* to say this. Ignore the cover picture of Audrey Tautou. It's one of the main things that kept me from renting the movie. She looks looks like an undertaker did her make up. She's really cute (and natural looking, as opposed to the cover) in the actual movie.  :)

It's a really good movie. Talethia recommended it to me a while ago, and I took a bit to get around to watching it, but I was glad I did.  ;)

It really reminds me of Heibane Renmei (http://sagafamily.org/index.php?topic=2722.0) in it's kinda quasi-"chick flick"-ishness. It can really be enjoyed by anyone, but there aren't any action scenes, gunfights, explosions or car chases. Even missing that, it's still exciting and very.. I dunno? heartfelt, maybe? It's the kinda feeling I get when a writer/director/etc. creates a movie that they want to make, rather than making a movie that everyone will like.

Yay!  I was one of the ones saying "go see it, go see it".  GREAT movie!  It's not flashy, it's not hair-raising, it's not filled with amazing special effects ... it's just one of those movies that makes you smile, and keep smiling about for hours afterwards.

Other movies I'd put in a similar kind of feel-good category include Fried Green Tomatoes, and Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility.

So glad you saw it at last, and enjoyed it!

Thanks for the movie tip, it's always nice to catch something really good aside from good ol' action or comedy type stuff. I enjoy a good movie, but on occasion it's nice to see a good film too.

As long as we're tossing out recommendations let me mention...

That's right, Sagacity, I remember now! It was mainly you and Talethia who pitched the sale on that one. Thanks!  O0

Gotta hand it to the french. They know how to make every aspect of their movies ...rich. Visuals, characters, plots. They know how to drive the movie home without shoving it down your throat.
