Ah, that special time when you've had a full plate, and suddenly you're done with everything you were doing.
I was DMing a FR game for a little over a year, and now we're within the final two sessions. I was playing WoW, but got burnt out. I tried Vanguard back when it was still with Sigil and couldn't get anywhere near another player due to lag (and I've heard things aren't much different even now with Sony). Three new games coming out, but in the fall.
I'm officially bored! The only game I've still got running is CoH, but I usually only play it when I'm in the mood for some good game action. Wish there was a game I could play where some of you folks are at now.
:BH:
I'm DMing 'Expedition to Castle Ravenloft,' and after that I'll probably transfer over to the 'Expedition to the Demonweb Pits.' Or I might do 'Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk' if it's any good. I really like someone else doing my encounters for me, so I can completely rewrite them to make them tougher. The premade maps are fun too. :)
If you aren't too burned out on DMing, I'll gladly make you moderator of your own Play-by-Post campaign. There's plenty of people here that would join! Syll and Dee also seem to be planning stuff, too. ;)
I remember there was some excitement about the new Conan the Barbarian MMO, and a Pirate MMO.
What three games are coming out in the fall?
The three games coming this fall are Conan, Pirates, and Tabula Rasa.
Gotta go to work, I'll respond a bit more to you two tonight. :)
oki. I know about two..Tabula Rasa I know nothing about.
Not that I'll be playing them. In all likelihood.
Have to see what happens in VG. I'm actually enjoying my two girls more and more. I've even logging in alone! That's unheard of, you know.

To be honest, I'm not too familiar with how the whole post by post thing works. When the first ones started, I abstained because I'm only on the PC in the evenings, and thought it would hold people up by having to wait all day for my reaction/turn.
Truth be told, I'm kind of looking forward to not having to plan a game for a little bit. It really depends on what a post by post entails. I might be interested in it if there's a desire there...
And I'll check out the Tribal Wars thing, Trevian, to see what its about.
The play by post started out being like twice a day, but now it is more like twice a week.
I think the play by post is HIGHLY flexible and no one gets upset if you can't post for a while...
I'm in two of them atm :)
*hugs Korgie*
I love how you are around these days!
Odd. I get home today and I get a postcard from SOE. They're offering a free digital copy of EQ2, complete with the first 3 expansions and the first 3 adventure packs, as well as free play until 9-15-07.
This is because I cancelled my Vanguard account recently. It's pretty much saying "We're sorry Vanguard was unplayable for you. Here, have an established game on us".
Most folks have pretty much moved on from EQ2 now, right?
Nooo. not necessarily.
Q is there, I think Jasyn visits.
I wouldn't mind going back, but Halagren won't go ...yet...
I'd suggest Vagabond Knights if you want to dabble in EQ2. Adeste is there as is Q and some really neat folks I met when I played regularly.
Dear lord, I'm downloading the thing now (hey, it's free right?). SIXTEEN hours to go...
oh yah.
I have cable and a very nice computer.
And it took ALL day. thank goodness I didn't drop.
good luck with that. Heh.
Maybe you'll get lucky and it will be done tomorrow morning :kia
Yep, bunch of folks still playing. Quince and I are in Vagabond Knights, so are Tanuvan and Imeriel (or their alts anyway), I think. Dicey regularly fraternizes with the Knights too although her main character's Freeportian these days, I've seen her at the VK bar knight a couple of times now. Tuppen's over on Lucan de Lere of course, and Tanare and Gwenae both have so many alts that I never have any idea where they are, heh. Probably other folks around still I'm forgetting. Lots of folks still playing and having fun! And of course with Kunark about to be discovered, there's exciting things afoot. :)
Well, download completed. I played for a while today. Trying not to be overly critical here, but the UI/Controls interface is really horrible. I pretty much had to reset my keyboard commands quite a few times before I got it where I wanted it. Then when I went to create another character (on another server), it gave me the option of imported my saved UI setting. When I got the character going and loaded the saved UI... it didn't change a dang thing. Not wanting to go through all that again, I just quit the game. I'll be the first to admit I just may not have been hitting the [save] and [load] and such at the right times, but I seriously don't find the system intuitive or user friendly at all.
OTHER THAN THAT... I was forced to begin play in the new Kelethin newbie zone. I picked a wood elf, got him just above level 7 as a ranger. The game play was less jinky than I remembered, so that was good. Still noticed I was stuck in a combat mode,"circling" my target, but at least it released me fairly quickly when I needed to run. The newbie starting area was nice and the fae are interesting, though I didn't make one. I couldn't get the name Zieg on AB, but I did get it on LD. Ah, well. heh.
All in all, I'll probably play it a bit more though I dont' see myself staying unless something really strikes me as good soon. :-\
To offset the last, critical post, I gave things another go. I changed the character models over to SOGA, and they look pretty good. Made a berserker and realized a big difference I didn't catch before. I didn't have to work to level 20 to *be* a berserker anymore. heh. That was nice.
Give this a try, Korg:
- If you dislike being locked into circling your target during combat, open up your Options window to the Controls view. Expand the View Options section, and disable the "Enable Combat Auto Face Camera" option (it should be the 4th option down the list).
- I'm not sure what happened to you while setting up your key bindings--if that's what the trouble was--so I won't even attempt to address that. In my experience, there are a plethora of options to set, but I've had the majority of my key bindings set to my liking since I customized them at launch (with a rare change or two when new UI components were added), and I've never had to import those settings to a new character. They've always remembered their state for me.
- To my knowledge (I haven't played with it much since the feature was implemented a patch or two ago), the Load and Save commands on the Options UI are only there for saving different performance options profiles. For example, maybe you are capable of running on Extreme Quality most of the time. You can save that as one of your custom performance options if you'd like. However, maybe you want to disable shadows anytime you enter Qeynos Harbor. Save that as another custom performance profile. In the future you are able to use the Load option to toggle between your two custom performance settings depending on your situation and what kind of performance you're looking for without having to drill your way back through the options maze.
- If you want a new character to inherit UI window settings from another character who has a UI configuration you're happy with (chat windows, chat filters, size and positioning of various UI windows), try the /load_uisettings command. It's always worked extremely well for me.
Not intuitive, true. But I'm glad the capabilities exist. Hopefully some of this will help smooth out the enjoyment of your trial time.
Jasyn you are not appreciated enough.
*hugs tightly*
:smitten:
Good advice, and appreciated. I'll remember the /load command. However, I still think there is a glitch, in my installment anyway. I've been playing today. Every time (heh, seriously, *every* *time*) I open up the options, everything I had previous set up for the character is switched back to default. And that's just opening the options window, nothing more. I may just learn to live with the circling the enemy thing for now just because I don't want to go through the whole resetting process again.
I will say though, I enjoyed the game today. Got a wizard to level 13. He can do some serious damage. I like. :) It really is a lot nicer not having to wait until 20 to actually play the class you want.
That option thing happened to me. I don't remember how to fix it, but it was an easy fix, talk to a GM, they'll help.
Heh. Actually, I can confirm that bug. All of my key bindings reset after I wrote what I posted yesterday. However, it didn't happen to me just by opening the options window (which I sometimes do frequently, particularly yesterday), but rather it only happened when I was poking around with the Load and Save buttons and cancelling without actually saving anything.
This is relatively new "functionality" after all. I'll see if I can duplicate the behavior more precisely later today, and then I'll submit a /bug report.
OOPS! I figured out what I did to reset my key bindings. It wasn't a bug after all. I had played with the little "Keyboard Layouts" dropdown box, and it reset everything. I never realized that option actually did anything. Doh!
However, I did come across something indicating that option may have created some issues with resetting your keyboard mappings, Korg. This might be the same fix Wroethgar applied. I have no idea, but it might help. Now that I know about it, I'm going to try it out just so that I always have a backup copy of my keymaps in case I goof up again!
Edit: Just gave the below instructions a go. It was super easy! Best of all, it worked! :)
Edit #2: Discovered some odd behavior with the keymap ini file that you save with the /save_keymaps command. The file is saved in the Keyboards subfolder in the EQ2 directory. When the ini file is parsed, the first line seems to be completely ignored, which results in unintended side-effects like having the '0' (zero) key of your main hotbar unmapped everytime the Custom keyboard setting is chosen in the dropdown list. I recommend adding the following comment on the first line:
# Custom Key Mappings
Everything from line 2 onward seems to parse correctly.Source: http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/showpost.php?p=44646&postcount=2 (Link) (http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/showpost.php?p=44646&postcount=2)

This is a quote from the official boards (I hope that's okay here) about this. I had the same problem until I followed these steps - not had it since.

Reporting back with my final testing feedback. The following has worked for me over the past several days with no further complications. In other words, the keybinds are now saving between play sessions again. Here's what has worked for me and my friends on several different systems.
1. Log on and set your custom keybinds as desired.
2. Save your keybinds by typing /save_keymaps eq2_keymap_custom.ini
3. From within the Options menu select Other from the Keyboard Layout drop-down list.
4. Log off EQ2
5. Inside the Layout directory make a copy of the EQ2-OtherMode.cfg file and rename it to EQ2-CustomMode.cfg
6. Edit this new CFG file so that it reads as:
name=Custom
options=
uisettings=
colors=
keymaps=eq2_keymap_custom.ini
7. Edit the eq2_recent.ini file so that the following line is changed
from: cl_configuration_file EQ2-OtherMode.cfg
to: cl_configuration_file EQ2-CustomMode.cfg
8. Log on and from within the Options menu select Custom from the Keyboard Layout drop-down list.
9. Confirm that the keybinds are working as desired.
10. Log off and reboot your computer.
11. Log back on and confirm that the keybinds are still working as desired.
Essentially you are telling EQ2 to load up the CustomMode.cfg file upon log-in and that file is telling EQ2 to load up the eq2_keymap_custom.ini file and that particular file is telling EQ2 how you want your keybinds set. So as you can see there's a lot more to loading and saving your custom keybinds than what was included in the recent patch notes. Apparently, you can't just simply use the new load / save command and expect all to be well. Instead you need to instruct the game on how to recognize your custom keybinds upon log-in so that you won't need to continually re-load them between sessions.

my account is open till 9/15 as well.

4 1/2 hours of patches to go!

for which game??
/suspects EQ2
Good post, Jasyn. Thanks!
Nymm!! :BH:
So far I've got three characters that seem fun. Portius, the human wizard (Qeynos), Fjon the barb berserker (Qeynos), and Scaad the shadowknight (Neriak but I'm thinking about betraying with him).
I'll be in game briefly tonight since I have to get up really early to drive to San Jose (about 4 1/2 hours from my house), if there's anything happening.
I couldn't get in last night because of the downloads. I didn't get that postcard, so I only have a couple of the expansions/packs. but it's not like i'll ever use any of the over lvl50 options anyway. you guys know how quickly I level. i game like a turtle with alzheimers.
i'm hesitant to take up with any of my old characters. it's been so long since playing them and i don't really know them anymore. i think i'd like to start fresh. maybe try something i haven't before. rogue, monk, i don' know. i'll play around a bit today and see where I end up.
didbud, quincey, is there anyplace to get info on joining the knights? i simply can not play without a guild. i need to have friendly voices in my head to keep the regular voices company.

Vagabond Knights (http://vagabondknights.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=31547&TabID=282378)
Guild info etc is linked on the main page (top right). You'll need to create an account (or you can use an existing one, if you already have a guildportal account for some other site). Then you should see a "join the Vagabond Knights" link at the top by your name, which you can click to bring up a little questionnaire for application. I think only officers see these. You should also post an introduction in the "guild register" forum. Doesn't have to be anything fancy.
Before or after you decide to join you can /join vkooc (ooc channel) and umm ... I think /join spider is the RP channel (not in-game at the moment so can't check).
They also hold a public bar night every Tuesday evening, at 2 Bayle Court in South Qeynos (use Alt-W while you're in SQ to bring up your housing waypoints, it'll lead you right there). The tavern is owned by Brosha. They're optional, but a good way to meet folks if you like that kind of thing.
And sorry about the update size. I kind of accidentally added a ton more furniture (http://eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=g142). (OK, probably wasn't really my fault much. But every little bit ... )
lol!
i found a guy named telis and went to meet him while crafting. he gave the same instructions. and introduced me to kithanis. according to your roster on guildportal, the majority of you guys are higher level. no matter though, i don't group often.
name's adia. i'm trying out a dirge. having fun so far!
