So, it should be easy, right?
Take the XP pro I have for the new computer and install it on my XP home laptop.
Probably not so easy.
I've done some reading on the web, and aside from saving all my data and doing a reformat, I'm not seeing a whole lotta options I'm comfortable with.
And we all know I'm horrible at this stuff.
I need Pro on the lap top so I can use the lap top efficiently at work. I *need* to do this and I don't have a lot of time to waste trying to figure it out myself.
So my REAL question is...
Who do I call to do this for me?
Do I go to Best Buy?
Do I call an independent guy?
And...do I want to trust these folks with this task?
:( wish I'd gotten Pro when I bought the thing :(
Umm.. the quickest and fastest way is this: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Professional-Upgrade-Version/dp/B00005MOTG (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Professional-Upgrade-Version/dp/B00005MOTG) :(
Your new computer has a full version of XP Pro, not an upgrade version. I don't think there is an easy way to upgrade with a full version: You'd need to reinstall your OS, then all your drivers and applications.
Someone suggested to me that using a personal computer for work is crazy. Because it gives full access of my computer via the network to the IT guy at school.
Uh.
That's a problem.
I have an enormous amount of personal stuff on that laptop.
I guess I could take it all off...
*chews lip*
I sorta use the lap top as my back up for the desktop.
I have a friend willing to come over and actually resinstall the OS on the l/t
Namae, are you saying I'd have to go out and buy xp Pro because I won't be able to install the version of xp Pro I have on the new desktop?
I have an older version of xp Pro on the old d/t too.
Would either of those be able to be installed do you think?
I'm considering buying a very simple machine for work. Maybe I should just get the stupid desktop back into the classroom :(

Or, it could be simple gravity and the fact that you are regularly associating with fruits. :P
