This is what one of our laptops has..I'm really hoping I can get EQ2 to run on it (I don't care if it is on lowest settings, yanno?)
Dell Inspiration 1501
AMD Athlon 64 X2
Dual Core Processor TK-55
1.58 GHz 896 MB of RAM
I know it is sketchy on the RAM :( Any way to play on the laptop?
*Scratches his head and wonders how 896 MB of RAM was achieved*
Menemas
that's NOT helpful Mene!
I just wrote what it said under my computer!
/mumble
WhaddoI know about this stuffs?
Heh....Its just that you usually see RAM in certain numbers....128, 256, 512 and such. 896 is an odd amount of RAM to see. *shrugs*
I"ll have to look up the recommended specs, but try it and find out, you never know.

I posted the requirements from the EQ2 website down below. I'm not too AMD savvy, so I can't really tell you what your AMD processor specs convert to as an Intel equivalent, but I'd wager you're just fine there at the very least. I don't see anything about your video card specs either. Many notebooks are often known to be somewhat challenged in this area.
I recommend checking out the System Requirements Lab website:
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
Hop onto your notebook, and steer your browser to this site. Choose Everquest2 from the drop down menu. Let it install a small plugin if it asks, and after a few moments, you'll get a nice summary that tells you if you meet, exceed, or fall short of any of the minimum and/or recommended requirements and if there are any particular areas that might cause you issues. If it comes back with a resounding NO in every category, then you can probably just save yourself the headache of installing / updating / crashing / updating / tweaking / crashing / rinsing / repeating. Give it a shot.
Oh yeah... that 896 number is... creative. Mismatched sticks of 512, 256, and 128 maybe? Odd that Dell actually
sold it like that... unless they were giving away free memory for the heck of it. ???
QuoteWhat are the system requirements to play?
Minimum: Windows® 2000/XP, Pentium® III 1 Ghz or greater, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9 Compatible video card. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64MB of texture memory, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, 56k Internet Connection, 16x DVD-ROM, 10GB Hard Drive Space.
Recommended: Windows® 2000/XP/Vista, Pentium® 4 2 Ghz or greater, 1 GB RAM, DirectX 9 Compatible video card. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 128MB of texture memory or greater, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, Broadband Internet Connection, 16x DVD-ROM, 10GB Hard Drive Space.
I think that if you have a viable vid card, you ought to be okay eh? Also help if the hard drive is not almost full or anything...
That said, I know there are folks here that surpass my level of tech savvy. I'm at least viable enough to build my own PC when replacement time comes though.
I have run EQ-2, and even Vanguard, (on somewhat reduced settings), on a laptop with a P-4 2.4 ghz, with 2 gig ram and a nVidia 6800 512 meg card. Your processor might actually be better, it's a dual core x2...so that seems likely. I think if you have a problem it will be a lack of enough video card horsepower. A lot of laptops scrimp in that area. Ram is tight too, but you have almost 1GB. The other thing I wonder...is it 896mb of ram "available" memory? You might have read a line not of the actual system memory, but available or virtual memory...it can get confusing!
Hmmmm. Hopefully I hurt less than I helped here...
All of you rock! THANK you.
I'll get on that link, Jasyn, and see where it takes us.
You can imagine the children are :bounce: and :tan: at the thought of getting to play Mommy's game. Heh. Having a way to assess the laptop really helps.
IF we can't get the laptop running the game, I do have my old computer that I tried to get to run VG but it ran EQ2 beautifully. Thing is..
It has those pink lines for everything, from the desktop to word to email and browsers.
Someone suggested to me it could be the power cord on the vid card? does that sound right? Because I can pull that out and replace it.

Huh? Certain high end video cards have power connectors on them. And if there's a problem with a connector the card is normally inoperable.
To make sure it's your card and not your screen, you could always try disabling the card in Device Manager. If the pink lines vanish, then there's something broken with your card. If not, then it's your screen or possibly with your OS. You could even go into safe mode to make it easier ro check out. Be careful though! You should probably learn how to reset your vidieo card in case the scren just goes black. It can be tough to reactivate your drivers when you can't see anything!
