When Saga was first established in WoW, if some people remember, the debate was over what the Horde-side incarnation of the guild should be. "Hawkstrider Cowgirls" won, but one of the names voted on was 'On The Loose', a song by a band that I cannot remember that anyone else had even heard of...

AHAhahahhaha!
I had no idea the band was SAGA!
I know this song..well...
listened to it a LOT as a teen. Heh.
QuoteI see no harm or danger in escaping
If the method suits the style
We put the mind on idle
And let the others take it for awhile
When the pace is too fast
And I think I won't last
You know where I'll be found
I'll be standing here beside myself
Getting ready for the final round
....I could make the argument that this describes my gaming...
I owned that Saga album...vinyl.

My favorite lyric in this was always:
We put the mind on idle
And let the others take it for awhile
And after watching the vid...I am left thinking Saga as a band was the love child of Queen and ELO.
I think I'll go listen to some Frampton now....

And who, here, aside from me, can hear each of those artists in his/her head right now?
Know 'm all.
Guess I'll get my music going too...
Yeah...I was never really much for ELO, but that vid, the combination of their look/style, and sound, just seemed like a Queen-ELO fusion.
I sort of like some Queen stuff though. And Frampton is an icon of sorts. (I saw him playing guitar for David Bowie's band in the early 90's, and he did a small solo set.)
Bands from that progressive rock era who I really really dig?
Rush. Definitely one of the bands whose music spoke to me as a lad, even if the lyric style was a bit high in pitch in the early days.
Slightly less "progressive rock", but also huge is somewhat more obscure...Blue Oyster Cult.
And yeah, if you recognize all these, you were born by the early 70's. :coolsmiley:
*cough* I'm sure I don't know any of those bands! *cough, cough*
Well, I don't know who any of those bands are but wasn't the Blue Oyster Club (Cult??) that biker gay bar in Police Academy movie?
Ahahahhaaaa Ana.
Yah.
I was an acid/hard rock chicka for a while. Still like some of their stuff.
Funny story:
(Boy)friend of mine, waaay back, was in the hospital for something mundane. I sent him flowers and asked the flower lady to put as my message: Don't Fear the Reaper. Yanno. Cuz we liked BOC, yanno?
Well, she was horrified, and even though I reassured her, she still didn't do it.
Funny how I remember her horrified reaction when I told her what I wanted my card to say.
heeheeheehee
Teenagers.
And yah. Born before the 70's. :kia
Speaking of Blue Oyster Cult, there's this item with an awesomely clever description that drops in Shard of Fear in EQ2 that gives me a chuckle whenever I see it:

So what have we learned?
1. Lyri was a hard rock Chicka, and deep down I bet still is...she's cool that way.
2. Bou was too, but wants to keep a low profile.
3. Ana has really poor taste in movies. (The Blue Oyster Bar...ROFL)
4. Jasyn is not only an EQ-2 encyclopedia, but he knows the absolute coolest item in game. (I have to get one of these...have to...is it for reals?)
5. If there is ever an EQ-2 item, "Legendary Six Demon Bag", then the Dawnfear the Reaper, will be maybe second coolest.
6. Next time Rush or BOC comes to the NW, I will pledge here and now to take the entire guild, my treat.....whoever shows.
Hooray! An EQ2 item to go with EQ1's Fabled Jenniy's Two-tone Cuirass (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=67283)! :2funny:

:2funny: Hey, I was a kid! And that was one of like five movies that made it to theaters in my country back in the '80s.
You know, Enininziel has a collection of funny NPC and item names from EQ that made a reference to a song/band/musician.
I remember Ringo, a giant beetle in one of the Luclin caves. Then there was Robert (the) Smith NPC in Shadowhaven. There were two Barbarian NPC brothers named Lars and Ulrich, I can't remember where now.

It's totally real!

Haha! Now I've got that tune running through my head, too. ;D
