I honestly can't stand Twilight. I've seen it and I HATE it.

I do, however, LOVE Buffy the Vampire Slayer (series).

Why? Because it was actually well written and well acted.

The movie with the twinkly in the sun vampires?

Utter crap.

I like Angel too, though not as much as Buffy.

Oddly enough, it wasn't so much Sarah Michelle Gellar's character of Buffy that held most of my interest, but that of the rest of the cast, Giles, Willow, Xander, Cordelia, Tara (before she died all sudden like), and Spike.

If anyone here hasn't seen them, the episodes "Hush" and "Once More, With Feeling" are probably the most well known and award winning ones, and probably easily found on Youtube.

I enjoy David Boreaniz, and do watch his series Bones from time to time, but the series that spawned his was just better to me.

And my nerd disclaimer:

And as always, these are my opinions and you are free to have your own, no matter how different they may be, and none are better than another's.

Not a big fan of vampire stuffs, but a HUGE fan of HBO series...so I might give True Blood a try. At some point.

I enjoyed the Twilight books.  The movie...?  Hmmm...how did I put it again?  It's like Zoolander meets Dawson's Creek on Halloween night....  Except Zoolander was at least funny...  (Though I thought the Twilight baseball scene rocked, mostly because I love Muse and that song in particular).

Plus, I always imagined Chase Crawford as Edward Cullen....  Please don't Google him if you don't know who he is.  I've an image to uphold...  /nod

I never saw Buffy, even though I'm a Joss Whedon fan... LOVED Firefly.... One of my favorite shows ever...  I'll need to pick up Buffy at some point, when I have time for TV again...

Hmmm rather the same for me. I don't like Buffy at all. Way too childish for my taste.
Angel was a *LOT* better!

But my favourite TV show is a bit of a horror show too: Supernatural!
Great series!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a very fun movie.  I loved the humor in it, which I felt unfortunately did not translate to the series.  Still, I liked the series well enough to not turn it off when it was on but not well enough to schedule it and die if I missed an episode, if you know what I mean.  I thought Angel suffered from the same problem Buffy the series did, though by the time it came out I had lost interest in Buffy and didn't watch it all that much.  It just seemed to take itself waaay to seriously.

Oh, I never saw Buffy the Movie.

I saw one scene from "Buffay, the Vampire Layer" though, and I loved it!!! It was hillarious!  :2funny:

I've seen a few episodes of Buffy, and while the side characters were very nice, Sarah Michelle Gellar totally scared me off that series. Somehow I really don't like her, don't even know why.

As for the rest, why is every Vampire "Hero" male? Boring.

Firefly was the best TV show ever made...period. I used to be one of those evangelizers about it...when I thought it might be saved somehow. (Sort of worked actually...the Serenity movie came out of all that.)

I have not seen Twighlight, but my expectation is about what Anaris said....Zoolander/Dawson's on Haloween. I saw very little of Buffy, but the Buffy movie was pretty amusing back in the day. The TV version seems like it might have been worth watching more, but I try not to get into too many TV commitments. (Daily Show and Colbert Report are my addiction.) Based on other recommendations, I took True Blood on my trip...just got back....and it is sort of interesting. Some of the violent/sexual themes are not my thing, and many of the characters are really not likeable...that's part of the show's essence i think. But it is interesting enough that I will keep going through the DVD's. There are a couple of characters I think are well done, notably Tara. Themes of gender/racial relations are featured, as few humans feel comfortable/safe with the idea of vamps having "human" rights.

OK, so I'll be traveling for the long weekend and need as much entertainment as can keep me sane.  I've packed Stephen Clarke's Merde Happens (third installment of A Year in the Merde book series), I've got Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, I've got the July issues of Marie Claire, Vogue, Glamour, W, and Elle, and DUMDUMDUMMMM I've got Buffy's season 1 on Netflix due in for tomorrow....  Yes yes, my choice of entertainment varies just as much as my taste in, well, a lot of things...

Now...  I've a...well I have zero attention span for the tube, whether it's a movie or a show or whatever...  And because of that I miss out on good stuff too...  I've learned a few of my favorite shows through other Saga folks' suggestions actually (Firefly, BSG, Sunny in Philly).  So I'll write my fave shows that I've ever liked on a list and hope y'all can recommend some I'd like, based on my list.  I've a lot of travelling coming up, so I'll need the recs...

My top shows, in order of preference:

1.  Daily Show
2.  Colbert Report
3.  Firefly
4.  South Park
5.  Arrested Development
6.  Battlestar Galactica
7.  Queer as Folk
8.  Project Runway
9.  It's Always Sunny in Philladelphia
10.The Simpsons
11. Lucy, Daughter of the Devil
12. Flight of the Conchords
13. Doctor Who
14. Aqua Teen Hunger Force
15. Weeds
16. 30 Rock (so far, so good)
17. The Office (American version)
18. Scrubs (Seasons 1-3)

I have never liked any show other than the above listed, that I've seen anyway.... So!  Based on that....any suggestions?

I'm only good for anime, so...

Scrapped Princess
Cowboy Bebop
Dragon Half
Kanon
Excel Saga
Avatar: The Last Airbender Books 1-3

If you can stand having the big three western religions poked at, Bill Maher's Religulous has a definate Daily Show/Colbert Report feel to it, and is just cerebral enough to keep you watching. It's also the only non-anime on my list!

I've seen Religulous.  It was Ok but nothing I hadn't already heard/thought/discussed...  Bill Maher's HBO show is sometimes ok to watch but it just doesn't hold my interest for long...He's right up there with Keith Olbermann, whom I also like, but only in small doses...

Cowboy Bebop I've seen, and actually I liked!  Will have to check out the rest...  I do like anime... I tried to get into the Ghost In the Shell series but it was nowhere as good as the first movie, or the other subsequent movies for that matter (which were good, but not as good as the first, for me at least).

Thanks Nam!! I'll look these up!  :smitten:

I do like Ghost in the Shell:SAC. I didn't suggest it because it lacks almost any comedy and it's not very light. Other than some of the series Sci-Fi your list is almost all comedy, so I picked anime that's light and fun and has the sort of sensibilities you're looking for..

Excel Saga and Dragon Half are hysterical parodies and almost pure comedy throughout. Kanon is very sweet, romantic, and funny in most places. Its background and atmosphere artwork is a thing of beauty. Scrapped Princess has an epic story plotted in a rather amazing manner (not to spoil it too much, but it's like a combination of Sleeping Beauty, Oedipus, and Battlestar Galactica ). It breaks up the action with enough comedy that you'll be able to enjoy both. The series also combines fantasy and sci-fi seamlessly and has a slightly Anaris-like main character. Avatar: The Last Airbender is nice and light, and if you watch it you'll be able to enjoy the live action movie releasing in theaters in the coming months.

I can't make suggestions for you Ana, because the only thing we both like is Firefly.

That said,  here are my current BB picks for when I fly out west in no particular order:

L O S T (adore this)

Desperate Housewives (total fuff, funny most of the time)

Mad Men (just rocks the house)

Entourage (usually funny)

ROME (just loved the series)

Sex in the City (have you watched? very funny)

Oh, and I'm a reality show geek.  Big Brother, Survivor, Dancing, Hell's Kitchen, etc.  Any show where people have the opportunity to backstab their best friends, and then say "It's just a game."  I draw the line at crappy VH1 shows.  Do I reaally care who wants to do it with Bret Michaels or Flava Flaaaav!?  Ew.

And Eureka.

I do admit to liking firefly and serenity.  Mal. is. so. hot. *drools*

Ahhhh Nathan Fillion....mmmm....  Hmmm I'm pretty sure you and I fought over who gets to keep Captain Mal some time ago, Elloise eh?   ^-^

I have Buffy....um....sitting somewhere.  I got season 1 on Netflix like a month ago and still haven't had the motivation to see it.  I -was- going to see it while traveling over the 4th long weekend but ended up reading stuff instead.

I don't remember how or why exactly but I did see the Roast of Flava Flaaav on Comedy Central.  Though I'll admit that it had its funny moments, I'm pretty sure it affected my brain.

Ahhh now I keep having flashbacks of that scene where he's left behind and is sitting on a dumpster trying to figure out where his clothes are....  /swoon

to be honest i didn;t recall him from Buffy until i was watching the commentary of Serenity when he was talking about how bad he looked taking a fall on Buffy so he kept slamming himself face first to the ground when doing the one fight scene at the end.

catching up well after the fact i think Firefly should have made it as a series. damn Fox for showing it all out of order, not saying they were and forcing them to redo the pilot  only to show the real pilot a couple weeks later as a regular episode....

oh and then wondering why it wasn;t getting good ratings and people found it confusing....

oh and as for suggestions that haven;t been mentioned. The Tudors. Lady Anaris may want some of the outfits though so send platinum.
