Title: Aion Open Beta Started Today
Post by: Askari on September 06, 2009, 03:12:40 PM
The "Aion" open beta started today. It sure is pretty! Not sure the style suits me (very Final Fantasy anime style), but again...sure is pretty! It made me think of Anaris, because there are so many pretty hairstyles. They must have fabulous beauty parlors there!

I'm not near as interested in this game as Fallen Earth, but I decided I had to at least look and go "Ooooh, ahhhh" at the graphics for awhile. I have to at least play the Aion beta until I "ascend" and get wings (10th level I think).

I made an HD character creation vid for YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvASqftZt7s. It's a big one so you may need to pause it and let it build a good buffer before watching. There are probably better vids, but they weren't made by ME!   :D

I'm trying to learn how to make good game vids, so I can make some video tutorials for YouTube when Fallen Earth starts.

Why is it that the "evil" women are always sexier?

Just seems to be the case more often than not.

The Aion avatars are truly gorgeous.  But the game just leaves me sorta ... bleh.  I don't know why except that the first thing I thought when I saw the teasers was ... "Final Fantasy".  I don't think I'm going to look at it closer.

Yeah, it's so pretty...and yet embodies all the things I like least about modern MMOs. Too easy, too spoon-fed, too much catering to those with the attention span of gnats. I won't be playing the game.

But I did make another HD vid of me gawking around the newbie village. It's my first attempt at narration, and seems to have worked (although the volume was a little too low).

I did get Fallen Earth.  It would be nice to coordinate a bit so we can find each other.  My character will be Jezerai.

Cool! I didn't think anyone I knew was actually going to try Fallen Earth!

I still haven't decided on a name, and will have to see what's available when I get home from work tomorrow. Heck, I'm still having probems figuring out what faction to play. Not that you choose faction for a long time, but it influences my name choice.

At first I wanted to be a Traveler (roaming merchants, mafia, gypsies), but in reading the forums...it sounds like that may be the most popular faction...so I'm cooling on them a little.

I've now almost decided on being a CHOTA (Children of the Apocalypse) who are the anarchist barbarian types. Partly because they are strong on the skills I enjoy: Melee combat and Armor Use (and by "strong" I mean they have high level trainers for those skills in their towns and offer a couple special abilities that line up with those skills). Also, because they seem to be the least popular faction and making a craftsman CHOTA is very contrary to common wisdom, but perfectly do-able.

People seem to be writing the CHOTA off as reaver-style nasties, but the CHOTA you meet in the tutorial actually ask you to help save innocent civilians from execution by the White Crow mercs controlling Hoover Dam. The CHOTA are definitely warlike... and most groups of them are led by a Warchief, but they also have a spiritual side with shaman, and a sect called Quiet Ones who are less about fighting.

Anyway, I'm getting way ahead of myself. You can't even join a faction until 15th level at the very earliest. And a lot of people don't wander to sector2 and start that stuff until they hit 20th because there's so much to do in sector1. And many people, like myself, will initially do faction quests for all six factions in succession to try to unlock all the mutation skills before settling on my final faction. So that gives me a LOT of time to decide, and lots of quests to get a feel for how the factions are really portrayed in game.

The only problem is picking a nickname NOW that works well with all factions!

Umm, looking back through this post...I realize I may be a bit too excited for Fallen Earth, lol.

Fallen Earth?

/googles it

I've been looking at Aion, but if none of you are interested, you know there goes MY interest.

Just call me a Bou groupie ;)  I tend to go where she does.  And I drag my man along behind...

Oh, I'm not going anywhere.  I just want something to play when the tediium of shard runs gets to me.  I expect that most nights will find me in Norrath.

I have no interest in either, the Star Wars one looks ok, but we'll see, I am sort of interested in The Secret World, but we'll see with that one too   :coolsmiley:

If I am looking for that "change of pace", I may rock out on some......AoC  :o
