Title: [TOR] Welcome Vifi Sunfell! {RC}
Post by: Vifi Sunfell on September 26, 2011, 11:49:55 AM
Hello!

I was chatting with Vilidius on the SWTOR boards, and he suggested that I post here to introduce myself.  (Which is great, since my workplace blocks the SWTOR site.)

About me, I'm in my late 30s and despite playing games since Pong and despite that I've been online with my 300 baud modem for my C64 on the local BBS scene, I've never really taken to any MMO (unless you count MUDs back in the mid 1990s).  Bioware is going to change that, I love the quality of product that they put out, and I love Star Wars and I love KOTOR as well.

I spent a lot of time looking over the Guilds because playing Champions Free For All (a test for seeing if I should consider SWTOR) was really kinda meh doing everything solo. I want a Guild that's friendly, intelligent and willing to help and play alongside someone with really zero Guild/MMO experience.

From talking with Vil, I think this will be the right choice for me.

In game, I'm still looking at the mechanics and classes, but there's a good chance I'll end up playing a Jedi I had created as an NPC for a briefly run KOTOR era Star Wars game.  A Jedi Knight fits her character and it also fits my solo play style which is bash on things, using powers as a secondary method and soaking lots of damage.

That's where I think I'll be headed, and the avatar I posted here is that Jedi, Vifi Sunfell. She's confident, capable and more ruthless than a "modern" Jedi with a demeanor that will turn rude and snippy pretty fast in non-diplomatic situations.

I'm ready to go as soon as those servers are up.

Good to meetchya!

-V

Welcome from one pong-playing, C-64 using BBSer from the Olden Days TM to another.  You can join me in shaking our walkers at Those Kids as they chases their ball across our lawn. :D

Welcome!  You know, as I was saying, one of the real joys of recruiting for TOR has been the continual discovery of so many people who sound like they might have been here for the past 10 years and we just never noticed before.  I take this as a good sign.  Saga was ahead of its time - we just needed to wait for the rest of the gaming community to catch up.  =)

Again, welcome!  Now hurry up and wait like the rest of us.

Greetings and welcome.
The Old Timer guild sounds like it has another member.
I never used my C64 online, but I did use it to create a D&D character sheet.
How about a Vic20 with a Tape Backup, does that count?

And don't sweat the MMO aspect of the video games, you log in and we'll do the rest.

Greetings!

I think you've found a good choice with people here who enjoy the company of others first and foremost, not just their MMO resume.

Thanks everyone.  I know I'll be on the board here since I can't access SWTOR (plus lightsaber noises during meetings is not something you want on your review).

My first PC was actually the VIC-20, and yes, I did have the Tape Player.  Calling it a Tape Backup is a bit dodgy, since that would elicit images of modern tape backups.  That style of Tape Player was more like, "well, if I sacrifice my audio cassette of Fleetwood Mac, I don't have to retype the 300 lines of code so I can watch an asterisk bounce around a screen."

Luckily, I was always envisioning a human character, so I won't have to worry about the races playable at startup.

That was just a test. You passed. Well done.
Sorry about your Fleetwood Mac. I've mailed you MJ's Thriller as a replacement.

I'm watching Leeroy Jenkins just to get up to speed.  No worries.

Does this mean I have a really high standard to live up to now?  Or does having your favor make me persona non grata in finer bookstores and supermarkets everywhere?  :D

Y'all are actually making me feel kinda young considering my first computer was a 486 running at 66Mhz, and my first modem was 2400 baud. heh  Though I did dabble on other people's Apple IIs, Vic20s, C64s, and the good ol' TRS-80.

Oh, and welcome Ryscandor. :wv

Luxury!

I was jazzed when my dad got a 486.  I used it to play Ultima VII.  It took up over 50% of his 40MB hard drive.

Welcome, welcome. Love someone who enjoys the classics, whether Pong or Leeeeeroy!

BTW, I can make you all feel young. I learned to program using punchcards and a teletype  on the UC Berkeley mainframe.

Okay, you got me there.  Although I will drop that when I was a tyke, my dads office still had all the punchcards - which were being used for scrap paper at that point.  He did have those large reel-to-reel storage units in use at that time.

I like that everyone ignored your question about high standards to live up to or persona non grata.
I believe you will get both answers depending on the time of day and who you ask.
And answers from either MostToys or Grimaldo don't count because I've met both of them in Real Life.

Except that meeting doesn't count because Ryland was dressed as a totally normal person at the time.

Title: [TOR] Welcome Vifi Sunfell! | Roster Card
Post by: Vifi Sunfell on December 09, 2011, 10:24:55 PM
Name: Vifi Sunfell
Race: Human (Chandaaran)
Gender: Female
Class: Jedi Knight
Crafting Skill: (unknown)

Do you have alternate characters?
I will have alts at some point in the game in order to experience more of the storyline. I'll be concentrating on the main character though.

How did you hear of us?
Through researching guilds on the SWTOR site. I thought the description by Vilidius was pretty much exactly what I was look for. Saga was the first and only guild I applied to.

Is there anyone you have gotten to know from our family, IC or OOC?
Aside the interactions on the board and some interactions in the beta, I do not know anyonw IC or OOC.

What Roleplay games have you participated in?
The only MMOs I have used prior to SWTOR was Champions: Free For All and DCUO. Both were really tests for how to play MMOs. I've been doing pen and paper RP for 20+ years continuous through today. I've always played story-driven CRPGs, starting with the Ultima series, taking a detour into JRPGs during the PSX and PS2 era, and most recently KOTOR, Dragon Age, Fallout, etc.

What are you looking for as a member of our guild?
A guild with an 20+ year old userbase so I don't have to deal with immature, spiteful hacks. Certainly, I want a place where I can ask questions and don't get ignored for asking noob questions. It stands to reason that the main reason to play is an MMO is for the muliplayer aspect, so I want to surround myself with quality people.

Have you read and agree to our Guild Policies and Guidelines?
Yes, but is the stuff that Jasyn mentions about "sending bi-monthly pie tributes to his house" really an unwritten part of the Policies?

Please answer the following three questions, IN CHARACTER:
1. Tell us of your past.

The Sunfells are an honorable line of nobles from Chandaar in the Tion sector. My family has several Jedi in the last thousand years including my grandfather, Ysond Sunfell, who died while I was a teenager. My father, Alicas Sunfell, was a General of the Republic prior to his death nearly two decades ago. My mother, Dorset Mar Sunfell, is an historian of considerable note within the Tion sector.

As recent as five generations ago, my ancestor, Duskin IV, was the Grand Lord of Chandaar. Due to Chandaar's system of heredetary government, Force sensitives from these families are trained in an academy in the capital of Ambaril. As a Force sensitive and daughter of a General, I was fortunate to receive both training as a Jedi and as a commissioned officer of the Republic Army.

I served as both during the Great War on Pernam Minor where I received a crippling injury to my sword arm during a mission, just weeks prior to the Treaty being signed. Since that point, I have been retired as a Jedi Knight and from the Republic Army and have relocated to Tython to teach military theory and combat theory to students.

2. What hobbies and directives do you presently have?
My current directive is as a teacher on Tython to initiates. I am one of the younger teachers at just 39 years old. That is my directive from the Jedi Order. My homeworld lies in Hutt space, close to the border with the Sith but is in no more danger than any other system in the galaxy.

Since Pernam Minor, I have been undergoing natural surgery and Force treatments to repair my nearly-destroyed shoulder. I refuse to have any "parts" attached to me. The progress has been slow, but I may be able to pick up a lightsaber again soon.

My hobbies are mainly in history, collecting items of relevance to the Jedi or the Tion sector as I travel. However, I haven't been off Tython for several years now.

3. Where do you see yourself in the future?
Sooner or later, this standoff is going to boil over. I presume they will press anyone they can into service. I can only hope I am ready by then.
