Title: [TOR] Welcome Venthrac! {RC}
Post by: Venthrac on September 27, 2011, 09:54:52 AM
Greetings!

I'm joining up with Saga for The Old Republic. I like that... Saga is a very fitting name to go with the Star Wars saga.

I was referred to your guild by my friend Chryse, who was approached by Vilidius on the TOR official site with an offer to bring our small group over. Chryse and I have been gaming together on and off since the beta for Anarchy Online. We both love Star Wars and enjoy role-playing, and we're both in our late 30s and so we're looking for a guild that's both casual and mature.

As for myself, my real name is Matt and I live in Rockville, MD. I've got a wife who might very well be playing TOR. Like myself, she is a veteran of many MMOs. We have two cats that share our apartment and we're both football nuts. She's a Packers fan, and I'm a Raiders fan. I also root for the Virginia Tech Hokies, as I love college football as well as pro.

My greatest passion in life is tabletop gaming; I first encountered Dungeons & Dragons when I was 10 years old, and I've been hooked on RPGs ever since. I also love board games and card games, such as those made by Fantasy Flight, Days of Wonder, Rio Grande and so on.

I enjoy writing, too, so I'll be posting some character fiction in the appropriate place. I just need to figure out what kind of character I want to play, and come up with a name that hopefully won't get snatched up when the game launches. I did pre-order so, hopefully that will give me a better shot at claiming a good name.

Anyway, enough rambling. I hope that will serve as a decent introduction. Thanks for giving me access to your forums, and I look forward to getting to know everyone both here and in the game.

Welcome!  My little brother and I have branched out into the board game branch of geekness in the past few years.  I know all those names.   :)

Welcome Venthrac!  I've been quite impressed with the little circle that you all came in with, and with every introduction I'm looking more and more ahead to launch.

Woo, a Hokie.  My first roommate at Fort Bragg was in the cadet corps there before earning his commission.

Ever play Earthdawn?  How about Tales from the Floating Vagabond?  TftFV is the best game ever!  It was created by that RPG powerhouse Avalon Hill.  Yea, that was an ironic statement, Avalon Hill was known for strategy games.  Anyway, it was a great game, I suggest everyone play it at least once.

Oh, and welcome to Saga, too!

Welcome!

It's always great to find a bunch of mature gamers with similar hobbies, right?

Howdy and welcome, Venthrac!

Football... that's the one with the horses and the wooden mallets, right?  :uglystupid2:

Welcome welcome!  I think there are a few tabletop people around here. Maybe. But they don't get on Mumble with us even if they're in the same house because they're too busy DMing or something. Not that I'm bitter or anything.   :ana

A Patriots fan, eh? Our teams play each other this weekend. I hope it's a good game -- if it's not, it's because the Pats are ticked off at their loss to the Bills, and are taking it out on Oakland.

I don't expect us to win, but I do expect us to compete and make it interesting.

The only Avalon Hill RPG I ever played was Powers & Perils. Now that was an interesting game :)

I have never played Earthdawn, alas. Mostly I stuck to D&D and some of the other old TSR games, such as Marvel Super Heroes, Gamma World and Star Frontiers. This is back when I was in grade school. Following that I got into Star Wars and Star Trek RPGs (I'm a sci-fi junkie) and then tried out Pendragon and loved it. I've dabbled in probably two dozen RPGs, all told, and I'm currently in a Pathfinder game as a player, and running a 4E game as DM.

I'm also hoping to resume my Old Republic Saga-edition Star Wars RPG at some point. TOR has definitely rekindled my interested in the setting.

And by the way, thank all for your kind welcomes :)

Boardgamer! Any chance you ever make it to BoardgameGeek in Dallas?  I will be there, would love to meet up.

And Jasyn, football is the game where you kick a ball with your feet.  A lot of Americans get confused about that.  For reference:

We'll see how it turns out! Our pass defense has been embarrassing thus far and our rush defense is going to be tested for sure against you monsters. I just hope for a solid game and not the sloppy play I've been seeing as of late.

@Alirrin: Priceless!  :2funny:

I'm going to have to start making use of that visual aid.  I can't stop snerking when I see it.  Think it'll catch on if I start referring to MLS as MLF, the NFL as NHL, and NHL as erm...?  I need to think this one out a bit more.  I'll get back to you.

Welcome to Saga guild!

Please be sure to read the posts stickied at the top of this forum and be sure you agree with the rules and charter. This guild has a history, as you will see. It is, well, a Saga.

Saga is also part of a multi-game guild formed when a few wandered off to try other games. Sister guilds have formed, and we all come here to check on each other. This multi-game guild is currently called SagaFamily. We are indeed a family.

To become part of that, please take the time to fill out the attached roster card and post it to this message. This procedure is for the others here who will not see you in TOR so they can get to know you. You do not have to fill the roster card out to be part of Saga in-game. You can do it now or in the future. You can fill one out even if you do not wish to join the larger family. There is no pressure, and no rush. Take your time and look around.

Just a reminder: After your board rank is changed to recruit, you will be granted access to the private game related forums, such as questing and crew skills.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Welcome!

Ryland

Venthrac's Roster Card

My main character is named Venn (assuming that name is available - I will update if not). Venn is a male Zabrak who has chosen the path of the Jedi Consular. Like most of his fellow Consulars, Venn is usually passive and contemplative, content to listen and observe. He is humbled by the great mysteries of the universe and believes that the path to wisdom begins with the simple acknowledgement that there is little he truly knows for certain, and therefore he must be open to anything.

Do you have alternate characters on the same server?

No alts, I rarely ever roll them.

How did you hear of us?

A friend (Chryse, also a recruit) recommended Saga.

Is there anyone you have gotten to know from our family, IC or OOC?

No, this is my first game as a Saga recruit. I am a total n00b =)

What Roleplay games have you participated in?

Far more than I could count, if you include both tabletop and video games. The list is enormous, mostly because I have been an avid RPGer for almost three decades.

What are you looking for as a member of our guild?

Just some nice folks to chat with and occasionally group with, I ask for very little from any guild I join. I just find it's more agreeabble that gaming alone all the time.

Have you read and agree to our Guild Policies and Guidelines?

Yes and I think so. I will make sure.

Please answer the following three questions, IN CHARACTER:

Tell us of your past.

Like most Jedi, I came to the temple at a very young age. I have studied diligently in my many years as a Consular. I see myself as an empty vessel to be filled with wisdom, though I know I can only learn so much in one lifetime.

I wish I had more exciting things to tell you about my past, but Jedi do not have many exciting childhood stories. We tend to live very sheltered lives in the temple.

What hobbies and directives do you presently have?

The constant search for wisdom ist he driving force in my life, but I am particularly fond of books, especially ancient tomes of antiquity from lost civilizations. I also enjoy training with the lightsaber. If find that the exercise focuses my mind and brings me peace.

And if I may be immodest for a moment, I have been know to cook a good meal from time to time.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

What an interesting question. Forgive me if I sound arrogant, but I try not to waste thought on such concerns, for any assumption I make would almost certainly be wrong. Even the wisest Jedi know that it is all but impossible to anticipate the future.

I am content to experience the future as it unfolds, with neither presumption nor prejudice. I submit myself to the Will of the Force.

I look forward to it. A wise Jedi Master once told me that each encounter with someone new is an opportunity for self-enrichment.
