I was uninstalling some stuff on my computer and I looked at all of the stuff listed to see if there was anything else I didn't need and I came across a program I was not familiar with.
PunkBuster Services (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PunkBuster)
Apparently, according to Wikipedia, this is a program designed to detect stuff on your computer that allows you to cheat at online games.
I do not remember installing this program. I do not cheat but I am wondering if a patch from SW:TOR installed this for me? Will I get in trouble for removing it from my system?
I do not appear to have PunkBuster or anything from Even Balance on my computer.
Maybe it came from playing online poker for a while when I wanted to get better at poker. Who knows. Deleted.
I know Valve uses Punkbuster for its' own online multiplayer games ie. Team Fortress 2 and Counterstrike Source. I'm not sure if anyone else uses it. Blizzard has their own software so far as I know. It's all self installed with the main program sort of underhandedly since you don't specifically give permission for it, but you can't play online for some titles without it. :P
That's how I got it then, I have Team Fortress 2 installed. I hear that game is rife with cheating.
Yep even Battlefield series uses it.
