Title: Halfling adventures at Comic Con
Post by: Mixxi on July 16, 2012, 05:44:44 PM

Once again, we find Tuppen and Mixxi at a table, this one was sadly not laden with tasty pies and ale, but with dice instead. They didn't seem to mind, though. (Perhaps because Wil Wheaton was playing Munchkin six feet to Tuppen's right.)

Other halflings were at Comic Con as well. By this time, Mixxi was clearly annoyed by the absence of second breakfasts and resorted to stealing tasty fisheses.

A red-haired elf maiden kidnapped Mixxi and forced her to play devious elven games while not feeding her. Mixxi was becoming quite cross by this time. The  more calm Jedi consular Antronna (Temus' better half) is the dark-haired lovely in the white blouse.

(I have no idea why I look so pissed off in this picture. Although I did refuse twice to leave the Munchkin game our group was just starting in order to play this other game. The Geek & Sundry person was so nice and just kept insisting, "Trust me. You want to go do this!" while I said, "You're taking me away from my family, you know." My husband George kicked me rather firmly, since I think he figured out that she was gathering up people for the Felicia Day game. Not quite sure why only women were invited. Tuppen and my husband were quite miffed that their male tackle excluded them and insisted that they were being penile-ized.)  ;)

At last, hungry and weary, the halflings were forced to take solace where they could, suffering through having to play Munchkin while watching the sun set over the yacht harbor.

(The fellow with his back to you is the amazing love of my life, George--who I swear I will get to play GW2 if it kills us both--and the blurry fellow is Temus' brother.  By the way, Tuppen looks odd here, because he isn't round like a hobbit in real life--as this picture appears--but quite fit and ripped in a very un-halfling-like manner. I suspect he's slumped in exhaustion by this point. We really were quite tired.)

I have a picture of Temus (in Nerd Herder costume, no less), but I'll have to check if I can post it. People actually asked to have their pictures taken with him, so hopefully he won't mind.

Nice narrative!
I really do look tubby in that last pic.  lol.
I am glad that you clarified that I dont look like that!
The picture of the two of us at the table is very nice and a much better likeness of us both.

Wow, sounds like you had a great time.

It was great to share some of the experience via Mumble for a moment.

The photos don't really show how LOUD it was. I couldn't believe the noise coming through from your end.

Excellent captioning and explanations. It sounds like you really were quite thick about being recruited to the Felicia experience.

penile-ized  *snerks*  ;D

Aren't you glad you didn't have to come back here and share an embarrassing story where you got invited to join the Uber Gamer Girl table with Codex (squee!) but missed your chance?  We'd have to take away your jumjum pies for a week (or more)!

Thanks for sharing!  Sounds like a fun time was had by all!   :tan:

Great story, Mixxi. Maybe you can write a book for your one hundred and eleventh birthday.
Nice to see you and Tuppen again.
Glad everyone had so much fun.

Actually...

This picture was taken literally 10 seconds after we were on Mumble with you guys. It was so loud because we were at a Hard Rock Cafe with the usual loud music AND the booths were set up so you could test play Defiance. Antronna is about to beat Temus over the head with the PS3 controller. Tuppen has the iPad Mumble connection. Why can't you play games in every restaurant? It's a great idea.

By the way, the little bit of Defiance we played was VERY much like fighting a rift (cooperatively fighting an enemy foothold--consecutive stages of the encounter--bronze, silver, gold medals based on your performance in the encounter). All skinned with a post-apocalyptic look.

I dug up another picture from my phone:

This is Anthony Bourdain's back. He is carrying a carton of his comics (he's created a great comic called "Get Jiro!") and is trying to get across the exhibit hall floor. I shamelessly used him as an icebreaker, since he's a tall guy with a thousand-mile stare when he's making his way through a crowd. He did have a great panel, though, and clearly is passionately in love with comics (who knew!?). He is wearing the same shirt he wore the day before. :)

I wish I'd taken more pictures. I saw so many great people (including Martin Freeman and the *wow--can you say handsome?!* guy who plays Thorin). My biggest *squee* moment was walking into the Weta booth again and realizing that the guy sitting on the stool chilling at the end of the counter was Richard Taylor. I was saved from the embarrassment of falling at his feet by the fact that he was absorbed in a conversation with a guy who was showing him his portfolio on an iPad. What an incredibly sweet guy.

So when does Saga go to Comic Con?

That would be such fun.

Hmm. I may have a slight wrinkle in the plan, though; putting aside the 20 hour flight, I think so many people would cause me to shut down. :)

Darn it, I want waypoint travel. Let me just go scrounge up some silver.

If we can plan ahead for this, I would attend ComiCon next year. (Or Gencon if that was preferred.)

Probably cannot swing both though.

Hmmmm.....one wonders if this could be combined with the Lyri-Blaek gathering somehow even?

Next year is Vegas.
2014 for ComicCon. That will give Talon time to save.

I hear they are thinking of moving Comic Con in either 2015 or 2016 and the front-runner is Anaheim. That means we could go to Disneyland, too.  :tan:  Can you imagine this bunch of jokers all going on the Pirates of the Carribean ride together?

I propose a moment of silence for the poor, poor Disneyland staff. ;)

We'd be dressed as ninja badgers, right?

So the big question is...a future Saga visit to Comic Con? Or PAX Prime?

Mixxi, I would say PAX Prime :) Hi everyone I'm Antronna, the one pictured above. Comic Con was very fun, but I would say PAX Prime because there are more games to play  ;D

Where is Pax Prime taking place? If its within driving distance on my regular time off I'd love to attend.

That is definitely not driving distance for me, lol.  Have a beer for me and take lots of pictures!

I would love to hit any of these events as a Saga mob. Labor Day weekend can be tricky though, as I have a convention thing in Portland, and sometimes travel, the immediate two weeks after that weekend.

PAX Prime for this year has been sold out for quite some time, but it might be something to think about for next year....

I don't want to ride over Lyrima's plans.
Next year, there was discussion to hit Vegas as a Gang just because we could.
I think we should get Menemas to take the lead on this and see what and where Saga wants to head next year. If we start planning now, we can make it happen.

Oh, my gosh, that's right. Ack. My bad. And I really want to see Ocean's 11 with halflings.
