Title: SolForge Kickstarter
Post by: PinkRose on August 07, 2012, 01:16:06 PM
Do you know what kickstarter is? http://www.kickstarter.com/ (http://www.kickstarter.com/)
It's a wonderous place on the internet where indie people and companies ask for money in return for a product.
How is this different then ebay, you ask?
Because the product isn't built until they meet their funding goal. And you aren't charged UNLESS they meet their funding goal.
It's brilliant. And usually there are incentives to pledge money for something you don't actually have now, like a button, or digital avatar in the game or a special thanks in the credits of a book.
It's Brilliant.
I've backed about 20 products in the last year.
Some unsuccessful, most succeed.
And then I get stuff. Beta access to a few video games or a "before it is sold in stores" release of a board game.
It's brilliant.
I highly recommend everyone check it out. Back the stuff you like and promote the things you want others to like. There really is very little risk.

With that said, I have found a product I'm very excited about.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1965800643/solforge-digital-trading-card-game (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1965800643/solforge-digital-trading-card-game)
If you like Magic: The Gathering or any CCG, and you like video games, this is the product for you.
I'm very excited to see what a Collectible game can do that is built for online play. And to have the mind behind Magic assisting in this vision is very cool.

So check it out, and check out Kickstarter as well. There's music, books, video games, board games, all sorts of weird catagories.
Earlier this year I kickstarted a Bus for a local band and was 1 of 88 people that attended their private kickstarter backer only concert.

So, in summation, Kickstarter is awesome. You are awesome. You should go check out http://www.kickstarter.com (http://www.kickstarter.com) now.

Oh! Oh! Kickstarter's great. I've funded something there as well (the movie's past the funding stage and nearly done, but the trailer is still there). http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1858040118/the-lost-remake-of-beau-geste?ref=live (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1858040118/the-lost-remake-of-beau-geste?ref=live) (My dad's the first guy interviewed--the guy in the plaid shirt.) For funding we get fun things like rifle cartridges!

Anyway, it's been tremendous fun to be a venture capitalist, even at this small level. I'll check out SolForge. I'd love to find something else to support.

Have you played Ascension, Pinkie? I'm kind of card-game deprived, so I only know MTG and Legends of Norrath.

I have played Ascension but just once.
I own Dominion which is a fun deck building game with lots of expansions.
I'm much more into the non-collectable card games at this point.

I am shamelessly posting a related but off topic reply to advertise the Kickstarter for Shadowrun Online. Please click the link below, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never make a deal with a dragon.

I just read about Shadow Run Online.  Have yet to watch the videos.  It's looking really neat :)

I sent the link to my brother, for his 'spam' group.  He has a group of hundreds of emails from friends and family, all of us who really like what he sends out.  So 'spam' is a friendly term.  In the past, I've posted some of the stuff he sends me here on the boards.

In any case, if he approves, he'll forward Kickstarter to everyone on his list--which will bring just a little bit more exposure :)
