Title: Leave of Absence
Post by: Gith on November 29, 2012, 02:18:00 PM
What's up peoples.

I noticed in Tys's getting better thread Mixxi asked where I and a few others have been.

Well, I am starting my chosen career soon. As of December 19th I am going to be super busy with job training for about 5 months. Training ends sometime in May and then I am starting the new job.

This is why I have been absent lately and will continue to be mostly absent for the next half year. Sucks but ah well. I am not much into Guild Wars 2 anyhow so hopefully the guild will have a new and interesting game by the time I have free time again to be playing games on a semi-regular basis. Or perhaps people will be playing SW:TOR again or something. I saw that it was f2p now but limited. It would limit me to 2 character slots and take my millions of credits down to 300,000 max. I was my 5 (or was it 7 mil?) credits!

So that is why I am missing right now. I look forward to at some point in the future PvPing with the group like we did in TOR. Reverence pain train had nothing on us.

That's a good reason to not be around, Val. Congratulations!

I still think you would like GW2 if you went on an insane WvW expedition of doom with Raven and whoever else tags along with him. Tyria needs MORE siege golems!

Congrats!
Hope everything goes well on your training!

And when you get some free time, hopefully we can kick some wvw pvp bottom. And by then there should have been a lot of content pushed out so should be new stuff for you to dabble in.

Fantastic! Life gets better when work is something you really like to do.

Best of luck with the training, though I'm sure you'll pick it up in no time.

Keep in touch.

Congratulations, Gith, and best of luck with your training.  Rest assured, when you're ready, we'll be here!

*looks over and puts down the moving boxes*

Oh. Yeah, of course we'll still be here.

*sigh*

It has been over 3 months since I posted this. Still plodding away at my training. Going very well so far though, so here's hoping it continues that way. I really want to get back to logging into Mumble and sharing some games with people. About 2 more months to go until free time will be coming back in any sort of meaningful way. In what spare time I have right now on the weekends I have finished Half-Life 2 the main game and am nearing the end of the Episode 1 expansion. Also finished Half-Life 1 (really short game). I saw that Half-Life 2 won game of the decade at the VGAs so I thought it would be worth a try. So far I am enjoying the game but not really seeing what it did to deserve game of the decade. I do not even play WoW and I think it should have won given that it has been a money printing machine and hugely subscribed to for almost a decade.

Other than GW2, what games are people enjoying right now? I have a PS3 copy of Resident Evil 6 that I have only played a tiny bit of. I played a bit of Orcs Must Die 2 and Transformers - Fall of Cybertron (on sale on Steam a while back). What's fun right now? Anything awesome coming out soon that people are looking forward to?

There's something other than GW2?  :)  Seriously, though, the GW2 I'm playing right now is tremendously fun, if only because of the roller-coaster dungeon runs. Wish we could lure more people back to the game now that we've got friends from other guilds to play with, because a big group of fun players makes this game awesome.

And I know you must know about LoL since I assume you're in touch with Vilidius. Have you tried LoL?

I always wonder if Half-Life would be as popular as it is if it weren't for the impact of Half-Life mods like Portal and Gary's Mod.

I have not played League of Legends at all actually. I do not even really know what type of game it is. I didn't know Vilidius played LoL. I know Temus and Tys play it a lot. It seems to be a game that people go to when they are tired of playing the game they are currently playing. Good to see it retains interest over a long period of time.

My character in GW2 is currently level 53 I think. Has been that level since the first week the game came out. So if when I have free time again and people are still only playing GW2 then I could probably get my Necromancer up to 80 somewhat quickly. Then I will get Mr. Moneybags Vilidius to gear me out with decent stuff. I didn't have the drive to play the market like I did in SW:TOR so I am not rich :(

Looking at the Saga Mumble, you probably will think that we're not playing GW2 much. That's because when we play GW2 we're hanging out in the Hammer's Mumble. If you're in game, shoot us a whisper and we'll hook you up. Keep in mind that we may not be able to see Saga guildchat if we're grouped with Hammers.

Ya, I've been playing a bit of League on exactly that basis - a game to play when you're tired of other games.  It's interesting, and good PvP training.  Temus is a good teacher as long as you're able to tolerate the extremely steep learning curve.  He's more patient with newbies than I ever can be - including when I'm the newbie.  Drop in if you can.  It's free to play, and that's something.

Perhaps I will give LoL a chance when things settle down a bit in about a month. I would imagine Wildstar is not going to be coming out until late this year, which actually works for me.

Secret World is free to play now so I might finish the plot of that game since I never did get to see the ending. If anyone is interested that would be cool. I am somewhere either right at the end of the desert or right at the beginning of the third and final area.

I have been thinking of going back to the secret world. I never finished the story and Id really like to.

I logged in and looked around my character for a bit. I would need a serious refresher on how to play my character and how gear works. But otherwise I would like to finish the plot eventually.

I recall being stuck on a mission where I had to kill a ton of mobs in a certain amount of time nearing the end of the desert missions and my tank build was not sufficient DPS to manage it. That was annoying. I forget if people can come help me with plot missions or not.

That was SW real downfall, solo missions. So counter MMO in my opinion.

Yea, they really are. And as I recall TSW does indeed have some solo only plot missions. So my tank build makes it such that it is impossible for me to beat it. I believe I was half way towards a DPS build using the other branch of swords and a different magic type? I would have to look up the decks again to get back on track.

That's part of the game basic design, no one build is going to get you through everything.  The solo only content exists to ensure you figure out certain concepts and strategies in order to advance.  Advancement in TSW translates to greater versatility, not greater power.  Try some different build and concepts, you'll get past those missions.

Yea, I just threw all of my points into my tank build up front then hit that mission where I needed to kill a ton of mobs and it sorta halted my progress since it takes so damn long to get enough points to sorta start into a new build. I forget where I was on my DPS build. Sword and Chaos I think it was? Assassin build as I recall.

hmm thinking about going back to TSW and then receive an email detailing new content about it....coincidence? I think not.

Yea, I saw that. I just wanted to complete the main story line lol. Now there is more!
