Here's the story...
Blaek likes to take us on Sunday drives. Our favorite thing to do is take a main drag and drive it until it ends. Sometimes we're gone for 3 or 4 hours following a road into the boonies and beyond.
This week he wanted to visit one of our parks. It's in the county and pretty big. I was certain we'd visited before, but he insisted. Wandering the back roads, we wound our way to the Park only to come across well over one hundred people congregating in medieval costume on one of the fields.
Enchanted, literally and figuratively, I bounced out of the vehicle and pounced on a Druid pulling various weapons and paraphernalia from his trunk.
Ten minutes later I had the full story. Then got even more information from a war mage heading to the bathroom same time I was going. Our door was held by a young warrior who referred to me as 'my lady' as he held the door. /hums happily

Live Action Role Play: LARP
There are rules of play. There are hundreds of folks who do it. I'm making Blaek watch the next one (happens every other Sunday at various parks from VA to MD) whilst we enjoy a picnic lunch (the picnic lunch is what convinced him--the man's a sucker for picnic foods)
He's hesitant. I'm intrigued.
Any of you experienced?
They don't post here these days, but Tanuvan and Imeriel are long-time LARPers, and in fact Tan is (or was) one of the coordinators for a big regional gathering his particular group held. I've never gotten into it, but they love it.
Never done it.
Would be interested in trying it out.
I have a few friends in the area that do this kind of thing.

I know there are lots of videos spoofing this and part of me is kinda leary...
It was a fun idea to think about this weekend. I'm kinda bummed no one here knows much about it. Not sure Ime or Tan actually post here anymore (and TABA is down as far as I know) so I won't benefit from their experiences.
We'll go on our picnic lunch and watch for a while. See where that takes us.
Interesting point: No alcohol as far as I could tell. These parks don't allow it. On some level I wonder if I could seriously dress up as a druid or mage withOUT alcohol as a buffer/relaxant. Heh.
