So, just in case you missed the resurrection of an old thread in the EQN/Landmark forum, I wanted to let everyone know that, thanks to Oakmist, we have a Saga server in Minecraft now. Askari, Oakmist, and Talon are doing some amazing things. I'm kind of running around in my rather disorganized way, looking for far-flung resources, and occasionally practicing my hobby of accidentally killing Talon in unique ways. So far, I pushed him off a cliff within minutes of starting the game (and took his stuff!), I have nearly killed him while trying to close his door when he invited me in to see his house, and I have attacked him with a loaf of bread when he tried to keep me from starving to death.
To be fair, I set myself on fire last night while learning how to use flint and steel (to the sound of Askari shouting, "Jump in some water!").
I'm finding it a great lead-in to Landmark. Plus, I get to play with Saga folk, and, because it's a persistent world, even if I'm not in-game with someone at the same time, we can see what the others are doing and leave things for them.
I also came into a surprise windfall today (my school district finally paid me for a week they didn't pay us for about three years ago), so I'm offering to don the Vilidius cap and offer Minecraft scholarships for those who would like a gift Minecraft access code. Just PM me on the board and give me your email address.
I hadn't planned on playing Minecraft till i saw Askari's Youtube video about it, now that I know you guys are all playing I'll definitely have to pick it up. :brfm
Do we want to put the server address out here in the public?
I wouldn't. It's in the EQN/Landmark backroom thread about Minecraft. Or if someone can't get to it there, they can ask via PM.
I made a 25-min video that tours the Saga neighborhood so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86gL9pmYtWA
Great introduction to how to join the Saga enclave!
Great video Askari. Thanks for that.
If that is what Landmark is going to be like I am glad I will not be playing it lol. I would get WAY too addicted to it trying to build a massive underground lair. I think I would just be building Aperture Laboratories down there.
Great video - I love your monster traps!
It is fantastic logging on each day and seeing how our little part of the world has changed.
Fantastic video, Askari!
Very informative and good tour!
I may have gone a little overboard on the sugar cane field between my place and Oakmist's. Heh. It was part of my learning how to bend water.
There is so much to learn in this game. It's quite robust.
My youngest boy, 14 years old, has been a Minecraft veteran for ages. He was playing it just last night. If he's an interest in joining, may he?
The more the merrier as far as I am concerned.
All I would ask, and I only mention this as I have a 14 year old son who plays minecraft, is that he is respectful of other peoples creations.
I started playing minecraft recently aswell, but i guess i can't join you since i pirated it :buck2:
I'll buy it later eventually to join you guys.
We may do piraty things in-game, but I don't think we condone pirating games.
Let's pay those developers for their hard work. Even if we have to build the world for them.
Pedekele, send me a PM. I've got Minecraft gift keys to give out. I just need your email. We'll hook you right up.
Loving the Chivalry texture pack, by the way:
Oakmist's tower with Chivalry textures:

Ethawn all but dragged me into Minecraft, I really didn't think I'd like it. I had no prior experience with a sandbox.
I have to say though, I'm having a good time. It's a bit addicting.
:)
We're using some texture pack called Ozo, I think? Seems pretty similar to Chivalry.
I highly recommend grouping in Minecraft, by the way. If you're just mining or something and want a friend, let me know. I don't take the ore. I just like adventuring and exploring with others. I like the way the screams and hysterical laughter echo off the stone. :D
I recommend grouping too, although be aware of where you are swinging your sword and mining picks. I killed Ethawn while mining. It was embarrassing. Especially since it announces it to the entire server. :P
This scenario tempts me to group under the name of "A Badger" were I to ever play Minecraft. Oh, for the days when we accidently mined badgers to death in EQ2. Of course, this also implies that I expect to be the one getting mining picked to my demise.
Does anyone have a potato I could use to plant in my fields? I hear they drop from killing zombies but haven't found one yet.
I'd be happy to trade carrots, wheat seeds, or pumpkin seeds. :)
I need to figure out how to start farming. I put water in the middle of dirt but it is not irrigating.
My place is at:
x: 113
y: 64
z: 220
If anyone wants to drop by. South from Saga Mountain. Past the abandoned Saga Southern Outpost with the underwater tunnel.
I need to get some sort of food up and running as well as figure out how to lure cows, sheep, and some chickens to my place.
If you come to my place make sure no explodee guys follow you. My place is vulnerable to flooding lol.
Elly, I have 2 potatoes and 2 carrots and they are all yours.

A cube of water will irrigate four squares in of hoe'd dirt on the same level in each direction.

Equip a Hoe and right-click the dirt to till it into soil. Equip seeds (found by beating up grass) and right-click the dirt the soil to plant seedling.
Once you have the above setup, people often put a Slab (half-block, made by putting three blocks horizontally to cap the water source, so they don't have to jump over the water. Jumping on 'hoe'd & irrigated' farmland makes it return to normal dirt. Wheat will grow when light=9 or better (torch spot is 14), so if you circle the spot with torches it will keep growing at night.
Lure animals by holding Wheat in your hand (cows, pigs, sheep) or Seeds (chickens) to get them to follow you. Can also throw eggs at the ground for an ~1/8th chance of a Chick popping out. Breed animals by right-click feeding them Wheat (or Seed for chickens), once two have been fed and have heart graphics rising from them, they kiss and make a baby.
I just had to share the hellishness that Minecraft has brought to my life.
Family outing to chop down the Christmas tree. Crisp, clear day. We wander through the trees...
...with Scazzaf making chicken and egg-laying sounds.

I'll look for the next time you're on, and head back towards civilization to find you. :) Thanks!
Due to popular demand I have now enabled world structures and restarted (NOT reset) the server. Hopefully we now have villages and stongholds for those that want them.
Bah, sorry, as suspected this only takes effect when the world is created.
I will look into adding a villager or 2 inside Saga mountain.
:(
I dropped a load of villagers into Saga mountain last night but it sounds as if they were not well trained and kept letting zombies in at night.
I (think) I have found a way of expanding the map which should allow villages and strongholds to be created in the new chunks. This will allow us to add structures as requested by some people whilst not having to destroy the world as we know it (it will just get larger).
In other news, the world no longer allows PVP so we should all be safe from friendly fire.
No friendly fire? You mean I can't hit Talon anymore? Damn.
Er.
I mean, that's great news, Oakmist!

*showers Oakmist with gifts and finally gets to put away his first-aid kit*
I plan on building this "automatic melon/pumpkin farm". I invented this design *proud*.
I was mining resources today, still need melon seeds (pumpkin too).
I play minecraft since a week. I'm new to redstone(minecraft machines) and its a quite cryptic, but i was able to make stuff work.
If some of you are interested you can join me as I'm building, I'm happy to explain stuff (even though i know only a few things so far) if you want to hear about redstone basics.
Probably some of you know much more than i do, so i can learn from you too.
I have never played with redstone, so I know less than you. I just like to make a world, survive a day and then usually start a new world. I've been doing this since it first went live for sale. I'm a bad Endgamer. It's why Menemas doesn't talk to me anymore.
I made a new video to capture the establishment of my new Deep Ocean base.
I just blather on for 30 minutes, so don't feel like you need to watch it. It's probably pretty boring.
Although I do show my Enchantment Library, if you were wondering how (and where) to enchant your gear near Saga Mountain. That's in the first 5 mins, after that it's just a tour.
Anyway, this video is mostly so I can go back and look at it in the future to reminisce, but if you're interested... have a look!

Your base is even bigger and more ambitious than i expected.
Its nice to see what you're up to, cool video!
Just wow, Askari. As always. I never would have considered using water to flood a room to harvest. Genius.
I just run around and collect my eggs.
Speaking of efficiency, Askari. I noted you dropping off your sand to your chest.
Did you know that holding shift and left-clicking switches items between containers? I think it fills horizontally from top left to bottom right, though. But it's still a very quick way to grab things from inventory and bank them or vice versa.
The sand to torch is incredibly clever!
Yea, I figured that out. The controls are very intuitive. I figured there had to be a button for that and pressed the first one that came to mind and it worked.
Do your crops not grow while you are logged off? Sometimes I log back in hours later and stuff is not grown but then 10mins later it is fully matured.

Stuff grows only if the chunk it is on is loaded. Chunks are 16x16 squares (as high/low as the map) that get loaded around the players. The answer is your crops may not even grow while you're online if you're not close to them. if someone walks by your base the chunk gets loaded and "unfrozen" and stuff will grow and a bit later it will be frozen again.
I hear there is also endgame content to minecraft where you go through portals and fight dragons?
Also, those ender men guys. Can I kill one with iron armour and a sword? Or will they own me?
I'm going to go with OWN.
You need drops from Enderman for endgame content, and I know Scaz at least can kill him. Askari, too, probably. Maybe do it ranged? And with diamond/enchanted gear?
Ethawn's killed Enderman without any armor at all. He said to try and get him into a corner where he can't run or teleport.
Took all weekend, but we finally caught a cat. I was seriously beginning to believe they didn't spawn on our server for some reason. Ethawn spotted the Ocelot as we were getting ready to pack it in, then a 30 minute chase ensued.
The Ocelot's pathing is insane and went out of the jungle into the birch forests (he also climbs trees.. we had to jump across treetops trying to follow him). Add difficulty continuing to track him through about three night cycles. I would get close enough to offer a fish, and he'd run- even with sneaking (holding down the shift key as you move). Finally he sat still enough to be tamed. He turned into a ginger cat (there's also a siamese, and a black cat).
Since I'm insane, I want to try this again. I want to get two cats so I can start breeding them. You can station them (by telling them to 'sit' (right clicking their head) and position them as Creeper deterrant. Creepers are terribly afraid of cats- they see them and run like mad in the other direction.
Here is the cat trolling Ethawn's dog by sitting on it's head.
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y9/trinka5/catdog_zps1e166dbd.jpg) (http://s2.photobucket.com/user/trinka5/media/catdog_zps1e166dbd.jpg.html)
I had no idea there were cats and dogs in this game. I think Askari needs a lone cat wandering his massive fortress.
If you get to breeding them let me know. I definitely need creeper deterrent. I hate creepers!
Yay Ethawn and Elly! I also want cats, so I may have to try this myself.
That's a pretty awesome adventure.
Wow. Nicely done. I admit I thought you were chasing unicorns.
Now I am very jealous.
And if I didn't already want one, deterring creepers is a must have! I made a creeper sweeper water feature as an experiment but it's cumbersome and kind of ugly but it's protecting the Mixxi/Talon outpost.
Well, it took me several hours today... but I tamed a couple Ocelots into a breeding pair of Siamese cats. As they mature, I am turning my western island into the male version of a Crazy Cat Lady Lair.
Over the next couple days, I'll try to start leaving a mobile breeding pair around Saga Mountain in case anyone wants some. I think people can breed my cats (with Raw Fish), and the kitten will follow the person initiating the breeding. But I'm not exactly sure...
You can chase Unicorns in Minecraft??
The kittens are (bind on pickup) and yeah, I believe who ever does the fish feeding has the kittens bound to them.
E and I tried an experimental cat trap in the jungle, but nothing has come of it yet.
People should consider taming wolves as well. They have saved my bacon more than once. I had a dog with me while I was gathering wood near the farm, a skeleton archer took a shot at me and the dog ran over and killed him handily. They also kill zombies easily. I have about four dogs to account for any attrition due to unfortunate encounters with creepers. I feel a lot safer when I am out doing stuff by myself.
Dogs have high hit points against monsters- however they have low hit points when it comes to falling/drowning. If I look like I might be in an area that could be dangerous for them, I make them 'sit'. If a monster comes around they will release themselves from the sit position and kill the monster.
