Title: Names
Post by: Askari on December 20, 2013, 10:55:33 AM
Since the press got a partial NDA exemption, I've been watching a lot of WildStar vids this week.

One thing I've noticed is the naming conventions.

It appears to be something like the following (this is based on seeing examples of names in gameplay vids, not reading official policy anywhere):

EDIT: Names have to start with a letter (upper or lower case is acceptable, but can't start with a number).

No last names is rough..

It will be like going into SWTOR, having a long list of alternate names and spellings to try is probably a good idea.

I get the inclusion of numbers- if people are playing Mechari, their names could very well have numerals in it, it would be lousy to see a lot of that blueside though.

I wonder if names like Rumze and rumZe will be considered different. Anyway we shall see~!

I'm going to assume that they will be considered as the same name.

Purely speculation but imagine that will, in the end, be determined how whisper/tell works.

Names will surely have to be unique so there are only two options. They are treated the same or addressing a whisper/tell will be case sensitive. Personally, I think case-sensitive tell addressing is a nightmare and will be bad enough sending a manual tell to A5K4R1 that I see in the world let alone remembering whether it was a5K4R1 or A5K4r1. or any case combination therein *shudder*. Then again, that's what GUIs are for.

I'll definitely be using a right-click and whisper command either way, I think, assuming one is available.

And this is why I use names that I know no one will ever use like ValGith and Tecta. Those are never taken. Tecta is going to be my main name in Wildstar.
