Title: Quick help me british peeps
Post by: Alwynn on August 09, 2006, 11:22:15 AM
I've heard the rumors. But do they REEALLY call cigarettes 'fags' in London?

I ask because we are working on a brochure for overseas travelers and they want to put a little guide to language differences, and I think putting that on there is not such a good idea, especially if no one actually calls them Fags.

Quick response would be greatly appreciated.

Yes.  Cigarettes are called fags, in not-that-polite slang.

Yep, that's used all over the UK, not just London. It's not very classy though, I wouldn't reccommend using it in civilised conversation. It's like saying you're off to use the shitter instead of the bathroom, it might draw some funny looks from the locals.
