Title: Mumble chat
Post by: Fizbyn on February 14, 2014, 08:13:10 AM
Do you use mumble every time I look no one is on the server list on the web site

I rarely use it.
Some do often. Those that play SWTOR and LoL do often.
Some people hang out there when not gaming just to chat.
It's not a requirement, so it's hit or miss if people are in there.

I, as I know others, find it difficult to RP while in Mumble.
And also, as others will tell you, are gaming in the same room as the family and therefore can't be chatting or even listening in Mumble most of the time.

We don't really have a unified game we're all playing right now, so it's up in the air whether some one is on mumble at any given time. I suspect once Landmark reaches beta, more of us will be able to play it, there will be more of a game to play, and you'll see more activity in mumble as a result.

I log onto Mumble most times when sitting at my computer. However, I work a lot in a row then get days off. So on days off I will be in there whenever home and playing games.

We're in a game drought right now. I think everyone's frustrated. I plan to be on more this weekend, but I'm still not playing anything regularly, although I'd love to!

Anyone else been experiencing problems with the Mumble widget where it shows people who were on hours ago who are no longer on. If I load the forums a second time it fixes it.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to reflect at all who is really there. I wonder if I'm seeing some cached version of it. It hasn't really been accurate for a while.

Yup, same here. I'm enjoying Hearthstone, but it just ain't an MMO.

Ha! Lots of fun in Mumble today/night, if you count me deafening everyone when I accidentally evacced us during the fight before the dungeon boss. Geez, don't play a game for five years and you forget what an icon looks like, right?

And the big, white balls. Four of 'em. Stuck together. *shudder* Apparently, they belong to Cazic Thule. No wonder he's so scary. I mean, how do you even attempt to find briefs that fit well?

So, I'd say Mumble chat's definitely not dead. Even though we were playing four different games between everyone in there, it was still fun to chat.

That list reflects who was there at about 9:30 pm PST last night. When did you try, Pedekele? Maybe we could figure out what the lag interval is.

It always seems right to me.
How do we fix it?
I know nothing about it.
Is it a user issue or a Mumble issue or an "our website" issue?

Who originally pasted the information into the config portion of the mumble status widget on our site? Maybe we just need to do that again.

I don't know exactly how the widgets work on this site, but here is a list of the steps for another site host. Our procedure may be similar. http://guildlaunch.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/59905-how-do-i-display-the-status-of-my-mumble-server-on (http://guildlaunch.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/59905-how-do-i-display-the-status-of-my-mumble-server-on)

The widget here used to work, too.

The mumble widget always seems up to date for me. Just for the record.

Yesterday I popped in because I saw a huge list on the site. It was nice to hear all the friendly, familiar voices. Even if I had no idea what they were talking about with their Global Agenda.

For some reason, I'm seeing the cached version. When I reload the page, then I get the more up-to-date version.

So...reload the page, maybe, just to make sure? Maybe it has something to do with how you navigate the site. If you use "show unread posts since last visit", it may use a cached version of the widget? Not sure. Need to experiment.

If it's just an issue on my side, i dont mind, dont bother fixing it.

I currently see no one in the widget.  I can try to reset the configuration and see if that makes any difference.

Let me know if you see the ghosts still / again.

EDIT: Possible solution.

I came across a guild website-hosting service that mentions that their hosting server pings Mumble servers for status updates every 5 minutes. Between pings, it displays a cached version of the status. I wonder if we all see the same cached status window until one of us reloads the page, perhaps initiating a status ping with the Mumble server.

What is the policy of our website host regarding how often they get status updates from the Mumble servers?

Here's a thread on the TinyPortal forums dealing with a Mumble status box problem. Not quite ours, but some of the solution might be relevant. http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=30334.5;wap2 (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=30334.5;wap2)

-----------------------------------------------

This morning when I visited the Saga website, I saw the cached version from last night with me and Guiding Olive showing.

I pushed the "reload this page" icon on Chrome, and the widget updated to an accurate view.

People will need to just get into the habit of reloading the page in order to reset the widget, I think. I'm not sure why only that widget displays a cached version. The Quick Chat (shoutbox) updates whenever I visit the page. I don't have to manually reload the page to get it to refresh.
