If you log in to EQ between now and the end of the month, you can auto-level a character to 85.
So Nina is now an 85th level Cleric.

The original everquest? I never played that so if I were to get in on that I would have no idea how to play a level 85. But I will download it if it is free and mess around.

I haven't logged onto EQ or my FV character since I retired him in late 2003/early 2004, and the extent of my planar travels never spanned beyond PoK, and I know I should let memories remain memories, but I am seriously thinking about poking about for nostalgia's sake.
I logged in but don't have my old character and couldn't get Dragnil as a name.
Dragnill is now a level 85 barbarian warrior.
Don't expect to be able to play, but who knows.
Well, I managed to get my paladin Thadaeus upgraded from his itty bitty level 45. Woke him up right where I left him for his island cruise. My very first character, Quyzbek the wizard, was still sitting on the (now merged) server where I created him before FV opened up, but those appear to be my only two surviving characters--not surprising, though, since any others were probably all under level 5.
Some stuff looks the same, yet so much is different: Freeport, Bazaar, orcs, Ro, darkies took control of the FV outpost in Kunark, the server is not the RP haven it used to be, and every zone is so empty, that it's arguable if I even show up in a /who lookup for the same zone. In any event, I don't remember how to do *anything*!
If I manage to connect with anyone at the right time, you can count me in for a field trip down memory lane because it'll be much more fun in the company of others. :)
I downloaded it but it says it costs money to upgrade to level 85. Do I need to make a character then do it or is it only for old characters already in existence?

EQ1 has a free level 85 heroic thing going on right now. You have an account and then you can either make an 85 or upgrade a character to 85 for free until 26th March (or thereabouts).
I made one on the weekend and it didn't ask me for money.

I got the original EQ. I will have another look but it looked like I needed to buy the upgrade.
You shouldn't need to. Just make a new character, and at the end of character creation, you should have the opportunity to create it as heroic 85.
What time might this happen?

Ok, got a level 85 Paladin. The controls are a bit weird and I cannot seem to find some menus as Esc doesn't bring up the standard menus. But I got one wherever they start out. Made one of those dragon blood people.
