Title: Classes in Ashes
Post by: PinkRose on January 27, 2018, 10:09:39 PM
How did this get missed?
So, you pick a class, then a secondary class. And you can switch your secondary class to try 8 different builds.
Check it out.

My mind translated this thread's title to "Clashes in Asses"...  :o

And... 64 different combinations of primary and secondary class? Umm, how many character slots do I get per account? Hopefully at least 63! I don't need a Bard-Bard... that's simply too much Bard.

Oh!  I like this idea.

Interesting to see, for example, a Fighter/Cleric is a Highsword and a Cleric/Fighter is a Templar.

I will admit I was a bit confused by this. Got it now. Missed the part that said primary classes are permanent but secondary can be changed. So that gives each person 8 options. That is cool.

What looks interesting to everyone? What is going to be your primary class?

I am liking Ranger and Rogue and their combinations. Not that we know much other than their names.

Well, I'm sure I'll go Cleric.
Templar (Fighter/Cleric), Protector (Ranger/Cleric), Paladin (Cleric/Tank).

Surprised, there is no Druid combo. Wouldn't that be Ranger Priest?
And I hope they change the name of TANK. I would change it to GUARDIAN and change TANK/TANK to PROTECTOR

I'll be very interested to see the different visual flavors of Summoner. There will apparently be racial flavor and individual appearance customization available for their summonings.

For instance, I'm curious what sort of tank pets a Summoner/Tank (Brood Warden) might get.

If the game turns out to be good, it really looks like a game you would have to have alts in. I have having alts. I usually just play one main but I would like to play ranger, rogue, and mage. And maybe summoner.

First character would probably be a ranger.

Rogue/Summoner looks awesome though. Shadow Lord? I really do wonder how all the summoner stuff will work out.

I have an idea in my mind about a warrior/bard dwarf....right now that is the concept to beat.

By release? Who knows???

I totally agree with this. All the other names are really good except Tank. That is silly.

So this is scheduled for Dec 2018 release? So probably mid 2019 after it is delayed a few times lol.

They said they had their Alpha Zero (what are we, soda pop now?) in December.
Whatever that means.

I do wonder though if the best tank will be tank/tank while all the other tank/xxxxx options will be less than the best tanks with interesting options and animations/appearance options. So if you want to be the best fighter you need to go fighter/fighter, etc.

I don't really know what flavor of class I want to play yet.  I'd like to know a little more about how the specifics of the system will work. I do have a habit of eyeballing something rangery initially.

Here's a pre-alpha conceptual overview of 4 of the primary classes used in a demo from Pax:

Here's a long livestream of an Alpha Zero play session:

This looks like the latest (as of January 7) from the FAQ regarding testing phases and launch timelines:
https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/36143/release-date/p2

Q: When will Ashes of Creation launch?
A: We will see several Phases of Alpha and Beta leading up to launch:
Alpha 0 is scheduled for December 15, 2017. This is the raffle only Alpha that will
also grant access to some media and influencers. This Alpha is invite only.
Alpha 1 and 2 is scheduled all throughout 2018. This is for Kickstarter and Summer backers as well as PAX Package purchases-Phase 2.
Beta is targeted to begin at the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019.
Release estimate is "before 2020".

Oh. Wow. Ok. Not for a while. Imma play Anthem in the meantime lol.

Ranger eh? I feel like if we could get an entire party of one of each class that would be awesome.

I also like ranger but could also go summoner or rogue.

This has an interesting example of how the secondary classes will work. You are still very much your primary it just gives you some bonuses in the spirit of your secondary class.

"A fighter has a skill called "Rush", that allows him to rush towards a target and upon reaching the target, deals x damage with a chance to knock the target down. If that fighter were to choose Mage as his secondary archetype (Spellsword), he would gain access to certain augments that he could apply to his primary skill tree. Let's use his Rush skill as an example; As a Spellsword, he could choose to apply a teleportation augment to the Rush skill, which would allow the skill to now teleport you to the target, eliminating the charge time on the skill."

Gotta say I kind of like the idea of a Spellsword!

I think a mid-2019 launch estimate, like you said, is probably not too far off the mark if their Beta periods run shorter than Alpha (but for longer continuous periods of time by comparison).  It's still before 2020, and they allow themselves some wiggle room.

Jasyn, thanks for finding all of that.

Someone from League of Shadows commented that he wasn't allowed to say anything about the Alpha but if he was he would say it is AMAZING!

So there's that.

well main will be a Cultist (rogue primary/cleric secondary) so that Kyri can finally become an official priestess of Lord Platinum.

may try a nightspell (rogue/mage) and spellsword (fighter/mage)- those were my favorite D&D class combos.

maybe a scout (ranger/rogue- DPS with a side of DPS and a dash of DPS thrown in for good measure) aka "dies in .00002 seconds from overagro to any raid mob"

I like the ranger stuff, specifically a ranger/summoner as a Falconer. Sounds cool.

I may need to actually have an alt in this game :( Ranger main class and a summoner main class.

Still scanning the list with curiosity over what sort of flavor of Ranger the Scion (Ranger/Mage), Soulbow (Ranger/Cleric), and Bowsinger (Ranger/Bard) would bring.

But seriously, I can't help but LOL every time I look at Sentinel (Ranger/Tank).  It's like an endless stream of jokes waiting to write themselves.

ya know one of my favorite EQ PUG group was at the karnor's wall level 50ish. group was warrior, monk, 2 rogues and 2 rangers (including Tanare). anything that got pulled was almost instantly obliterated. we got bored and asked the monk to start double pulling. The rangers were the healers with our mighty light healing spells. so clearly ranger/cleric is a viable option. think we got up to three before we felt like we needed an upgrade for healing...so we added a paladin when the warrior left

Okay while on funny odd grouping notes, back in the day, myself, (Warrior Beren Fellhand at that time), Finneas the Rogue, and Yewling the Ranger, were a three man team one evening. This was at the time Finneas was in Lux Aeternam, following his time in Saga.

So, since we had a rogue, and we were silly....we went to the lower areas of Sebilis past the locked door. Stuff there ranged from green for the typical froglok, to blue for the higher end frogs and some golem type mobs.

Yewling the ranger was our puller, healer, snare/root was our only crowd control. I was the tank, and Finneas was our #1 source of damage.

We had a couple of occasions where a critter broke snare and hopped off at a high rate of speed, causing very serious issues. But with a sense of calm, we made it through with a hairs width of health left twice, and one or two other semi close calls.
:viking2:
It was a fantastic group hunt. Ranger as your only healer, or caster of any kind, around level 60....with zero chance of escape if you get overwhelmed....good stuff.
