Once a Pawn of Time
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It all goes backwards from this point. It's hardly worth the mention, as each experience shines more light, and changes who I am. But if I don't tell my story then it won't be told, which means the pain would not have existed. But it's also an adventure worth telling, and you all have shared yours, so it's only fair ye should be subject to mine...

So long ago I sat at the lake in Felwithe with my brother Keras, polishing stones and fishing for breakfast. So many nights and fights since. So much time spent trying to find my brother.

At first I blamed the dark elves. Who wouldn't?

In Crushbone, though I learned much about my magical craft, I learned little about my brother, except that his path led to Neriak.

I entered the underground city in disguise and crept in corners for clues. My interrogations of citizens and guards revealed little. My hatred for them drove me to acts of such violence that my disguises no longer dupe the Neriak guards and merchants.

I have little trouble fooling the evil adventurers with my visual tricks. In hunting groups I have learned enough to know that the Teir`Dal only initiated my brother's disappearance. They kidnapped him, and put him on the selling block.

But exacting further revenge on the dark elves was pointless. Clues led to goblins. I would befriend the halflings of Rivervale, hone my skills further, and find out what the goblins knew.

The Rivervale halflings spoke an unfamiliar tongue, and at first wanted nothing to do with me. They gouged me on prices for basics, like food, water, and especially bandages.

How was a young adventurer ever going to earn her fortune with this type of hospitality?

I soon learned that, although I knew not what they were saying, if I disguised as a gnome I not only fit through their tiny doors better, but was better received by all around. I brought the sheriff of Rivervale a collection of goblin beads, which somehow impressed most everyone in town.

I often hunted alone, but steadily added names to my friends list. Many disappeared, but others, like Sari, always seemed to enter my thoughts.

I began my first trip across the continent of Antonica, battling or avoiding many bandits and beasts along the way. I was collecting ingredients for an exotic drink. It was a complicated story involving a lost book and a grumpy ogre, but the rumored final outcome was a Stein of Moggok. This magical mug has an endless dose of intelligence elixir...so potent that a person can only hold one stein at a time!

Finding the ingredients required travelling from the gnome city of Akanon all the way to Erudin. Who would drink a brew made from such things I don't know. One, a type of fish, is actually retched up by a dog in West Karana! Talk about disgusting.

Little did I know I would soon see a lot worse...
