I'm on a different computer than normal.
In a different state.
With a different Log in.
And I can post Smilies.   :wv

;D  ;D  ;D

Yep .. can post using Internet Explorer, under my own (non privileged account).

Version of IE is 6 SP1

It's not the same IE, mine is IE 6 - SP 2.  Not SP 1.

Let's wait and see if anyone else is having any problems.  When I get back to work I'll look at my computer there, but I allow scripting and all of that other stuff.  I'll also check windows updates that I've downloaded.  I always update my computer at home, and my work updates our computers regularly too.  So I'll take a look.

Can you type out the text codes for the smilies, Gwenae? Like ': )' but without the spaces or quotes?

Can you see the graphic smilie at the end of this sentence? :)

Or was that smilie just text for you?

That sounds like a very unusual bug. Perhaps you cannot access the files saved on the forum.

Does this link show you a smilie?

Can you see images in the Gallery?

I know what problem she's experiencing ... I've had it happen to me before on my unix box ... Basically, the clicky buttons up there, when you make a post, are javascripted.  Click one, and it will send the appropriate text/bbc code to the post form (text box) ... that is, type it for you, so to speak.

My unix box, ere I got java running on it correctly in browsers, would fail to run the script.  I could click on the buttons all day, and the bbc code text would not be sent.  Type it in by hand, and its fine.

The part I'm curious over is why, all of a sudden, when the script has not been altered and the template files of the site haven't been altered, her IE browsers stop running the script.

I've done a little bit of research as of late, and it appears that IE SP2  on XP had some sort of javascript vulnerability ... I've no clue if Microsoft has recently done some sort of recent update or patch to repair that ... which thereby caused the issue at hand.

My Windows Update (which notifies me automatically when there's new updates available) is telling me there's an Internet Explorer 7.0 for Windows XP update available (I'm currently using 6.0.2900.2180.blahblahblah).

I am, of course, ignoring it at the moment.  But I bet if people have their Windows Update configured to automatically download updates, that's probably what's done it.  And why Mozilla is working fine.

On my destop machine, I've been fine here on IE 6.0 SP2 just about forever.  Haven't noticed any problems with Firefox either (on my laptop).  Went ahead and willingly updated IE to 7.0 on my desktop just prior to this weekend.  Still not having any noticeable issues.

Ok, I do not have IE 7 on my machine.  It looks entirely different, and once you do download it you'll see.  I'm still using IE 6, SP 2.   I can type out the smilies just fine, but really the only one I know is :).  heh

I just can't click on anything and make it work.  I am also unable to highlight text in the box here that I'm typing in.  I'm completely restricted.

I'm going to fool around with my work computer and see if the problem still exists there.

Hmmm ... then the plot thickens!  Maybe it's just an anti-Saga conspiracy ....  :police:

Yes, now I'm thinking the problem exists with my computer at home.  I am now able to click stuff at work and everything seems to be working fine here.

When I left my house, my computer didn't allow this.  When I left my office on Friday, I could not do this with THIS computer.  Now I can.

I'm really not sure what's going on here.  It's either a glitch or my computer is screwed up at home now.  I hope not, because I redid it a month ago, and I'm not going through that again. :)

And I've been using IE7 for a long time  (since before I started using these boards)  and I've never had any trouble.
