Cross-promotional rare cards in the new trading card game that yield in-game rewards.

Like the game, hate it, or apathetic, ya gotta admit... pure marketing genius :p

Sagacity

I read an interesting article about this recently that was linked on Slashdot -

Shame on Blizzard, the Card Game Trinket Fiasco

Hmmm.

On the one hand, I'd agree that the points required for those things border on insane.  It's tantamount to just selling in-game items for ridiculous amounts of RL Cash.

On the other hand, I'd agree with some of the posters that buying the card game soley for the in-game rewards is fairly stupid.  I personally was just thinking it was a neat incentive to get people to try the card game when they might not otherwise.

Hopefully Blizz will reduce the point costs on those items, and then all will be well with the world ;)

Some people buy and use things in ways they aren't intended. For example, some people might to take a sponge and add salt water, then rub it onto your windows to keep them from fogging back up when it gets cold. It's not what the sponge or table salt was intended for, but it works. (I'm told!)

So if you wanna buy WoW cards just for the points, more power to you. I think it is totally dishonest of them to offer prizes for the points on the cards and not tell you that no reasonable card collector is ever going to see enough points to get any of the prizes. If they told you the point structure in advance, fine, there woul be no argument, but they didn't. Or if they hadn't wiggled the prizes in front of you as an incentive to buy the cards, then there would be no reason to complain.

You'd be silly to buy the cards for points now that you know it's nigh impossible, but you gotta feel sorry for the poor shmuck who thought that the points on the cards would be worth anything. Personally, if I were the poster, I would just call up Blizzard and ask for the money for my cards back, then post their response if it was declined.

And I agree with Syll, It's a good markting ploy.  8)

I saw that in a Magazine.
GENIUS!
I know had I been playing WoW about 10 years ago, when I spent ALL my time and money on Magic, Blizzard would own my soul and my sister's first born child.
Sorry Alison.
