No good guy faction

The big issue with wildstar is which is the good side or the badder side?

The exiles were rebels, pirates and anarchists but they also see themselves as freedom fighters.

The dominion sees itself as a civilized unifying force preparing the galaxy for a coming threat but their methods are heavy handed.

Wildstar is really trying hard not to have a good guy faction but more of a chaotic vs lawful ( exiles vs dominion ).

So it boils down to , who would you rather be?

Lawful or chaotic?

Or

Which races would you rather play and both have humans ( dominion with a brit accent and exile southern twang ) :

Rock humanoid, nature loving tail people, alchemical genius folks suffering from a plague - faction colour is blue

Robots with a hidden agenda, savage tribal race uplifted, scientific tinkering mad genius rodents - faction colour is red

Im personally a fan of the exiles but that's because of the strong firefly vibes.

I couldn't ever play a character loyal to the Dominion. Law-full they may be, but they regularly practice genocide and consume planets like locusts for resources. If I was to play redside it would have to be as a spy for the Exiles, or someone intent on bringing them down from the inside.

Granted being an Exile doesn't mean you are a goody-goody though. Most of them are scoundrels or refugees of a sort.

Funky random idea: What if the people from Saga who want to play Wildstar went in with a concept and a bit of pre-story? Like maybe 'Saga' is the name of our ship. The Guild leader would be captain, everyone else could come up for a reason to either be a passenger on the ship heading to Nexus, or have a role as crew.

There's lots of other ideas out there too, I bet. Just pondering. :)

I don't know if this will help a lot, but from an old time Saga perspective we have always been Neutral-Chaotic Good. True, we occasionally include more lawful types as well, but we tend heavily towards chaos. The same lawful vs. chaos question was at issue in Rift, and we landed on the side of chaos. I see Wildstar as a far more obvious answer than that. The Dominion are cartoonishly villainous. Not saying they can't have a positive, order-driven side to them. But man are they ruthless. The Exiles seem far more obviously good to me, no matter the other concerns.

So Exiles have it hands down, in my books.

That is a great idea! I would go with that. We could come up with a reason to have a crew of less than 20 easily.


I also vote for Exiles. Dominion is evil in that they take what they want when they want and use force to get it. At least the exiles are fighting for their own freedom.

Telling people how they have to roleplay is a big no in Saga protocol.
The most we can do is a loose affiliation of people who know each other.
Now, it sounds like a ship's crew would be a great circle, right?
And it does sound like Exile is the way to go.

I could definitely flow with the ship idea. I believe the entire premise of the game is that new characters are newly arrived on the newly discovered planet of Nexus.

Arriving together on the same ship gives us a reason to be loosely associated with each other from the get-go, while preserving the ability of individual characters to have their own reason for being on the ship and coming to Nexus.

I'm an exile type as well, any race but the bunny-ear people. I'm leaning toward the rock guys.

And we can do the ship idea without it being restrictive, Pinkie. Just because the crew is there doesn't mean everyone belonged/belongs to it. Like in the Hammers. Keyes and Ewin never bent the knee and swore the IC oath. They were independent contractors hired by members of the Hammers for specific tasks, and eventually just close associates of the Hammers.

Stow aways, passengers, prisoners being transported, unlucky folks rescued or another ship that got caught in the thing that caused the ship to land or go down.

If the ship 'Saga' was little more than a transport ship in this case, the only thing everyone would have in common is passage on the ship and an unknown reason for wanting to get to Nexus. Someone who came to the game post launch, or wanted a different introduction could meet up with other players in some other scenario after landing.

I can see some possible pre-release RP threads, where a character books passage in some seedy port the ship is docked in. The interaction between passengers and crew over the long space voyage would be interesting: a unique twist on 'A character walks into a tavern thing.'

Thinking about it has really inspired me, I've actually started writing fragments here and there of possible stories. I've always wanted to do Firefly style roleplay, it didn't quite happen in SWTOR. The Jedi culture was too strong an influence to everyone's story (in addition to the in-game character class based path).

At this point, there is no way in hell I can play Dominion. As far as I am concerned they are eeeeeeevil. Playing with perspectives on political ideology are fun when you aren't attempting to do so within the confines of a rigidly structured game environment that reinforces a very specific thematic reality for a faction.

At least in TOR you could actually make goody-goody choices (relatively speaking) on the Empire side.

Playing a bit of an anti-hero on the Exiles side, fighting the oppressive nature of the Dominion sounds way more fun...

Soooo, Mixxi convinced me to give Wildstar a try. I watched the trailer and it looks really good.

Leaning towards Scientist path. Maybe Explorer. Probably Aurin Esper at this point. Exile side.

The Saga ship idea is genius, Elly. There's enough freedom for anyone to join without any restriction to roleplay. The game requires that everyone arrives on a ship, I believe but reasons for being there can be up to the player. Nicely done!

I can get on board with that idea. Heh. See what I did there.

I vote the ship is simply named Saga. What could be simpler? It actually gives us an excuse to reference the "guild" name in game.

And I will probably poke at the game, yes. But my RL is more than unusually busy lately, so it will probably be limited. I'll be a settler. I'm good at that.
