Your dream MMO soundtrack?

Jeremy Soule seems to be the go-to for game soundtracks, but who would you love to do music for your next MMO?

(Mostly this is a thread of me trolling for new music, as my playlists need some new blood) :)

I'd like to see some more unabashedly dramatic music. Ethawn and I listen to a lot of trailer music (that could be interpreted wrong, hmm.. ). Lately into a group (production company?) called Immediate.

Oooo I don't know about composers but Im a big fan of gw2 music and some wow tracks like grizzly hills.

for me? Jeremy Soule.

That guy did the most amazing job on Skyrim. it really made a huge impact on the game for me.

So I'm thrilled He's working on the game.

I know a few people complained about the main theme being changed, but to be honest the original and eq 2's were really generic to me.

Though the funny thing with GW2, a couple of the tracks sound really similar to some Neverwinter nights ones.

I remember, that i loved the runnyeye theme the most in EQ2, the MMO i played the most.

The greatest game music are all those melodic tunes of the old console games though. Those ever repeating songs that oozed real epicness, the music that made you keep grinding levels or just play the game over and over again.

Music is really a hard question. Makes me think of how nice it would be to be able to pick your own music for each zone next to a default song.
Atmosphere is really a big deal and people have different tastes. I don't really have music that fits your taste i think.

Music must really fit the moment. This would be too epic most of the time, for example.
A great game with awesome music was lufia2 for snes,here's a instrumental version of the boss battle theme, again it just oozes epicness. Just like zelda music does.
And stuff that has noting to do with the topic, but is still awesome.
And then theres some fun facts about music in games.

I love melodic music, instrumental music. I like decent i mean... german, dezent = discreet music, just as much as those songs that ooze epicness.
Sometimes there just has to be noises instead of music.
Ah did i mention i like metal? i grew up in a time where everything awesome had a metal theme so. (not just games but tv shows as well 1,2 ) Well there was at least some Jazz, god i love jazz. I actually like a huge variety of music, but my roots are with metal. But i have to say at this point that even electric music can fit well in a fantasy game.

fintroll, korpiklaani, eluveitie theres many awesome folk metal bands and such. Don't know if you'd fancy that.

maybe you like fintroll as orchestra better, would be great game music. their songs should all have a instrumental only version for those who cant stand death metal voices.

Music shouldnt be so epic that i forget to play ^_^

Also thumbs up for heavy metal. Strangely enough, Eluveitie is responsible for me knowing of my addition to this thread. I was poking around some of their albums on iTunes and some one in the comments said that they enjoyed Eluveitie even though they don't usually listen to heavy metal, and they listed some of the typical folk music they listen to. One of which was Garmarna, a group that has quickly become one of my favorites. Sadly, they don't seem to record anymore. But here's some of their stuff:

Also, in the brief amount of time that I've poked my head into Final Fantasy XIV (which has been great, I might add), I've been -very- impressed with the soundtrack. It seeks to accomplish different things than something Jeremy Soule might compose, but it's immersive, easily a part of whatever environment my character is adventuring in; not distracting. Though, I'm not sure I could see it in anything other than a Final Fantasy game, so maybe it wouldn't necessarily be my -dream- MMO soundtrack. Close, though.

If you found your copy of the game can you help me find mine?  ;)

Since we can easily access the music folder in EQ2 for example, we could replace the soundtracks with custom music...?

Edit: guile's theme goes with anything by the way.

Glad you enjoy it. It's all from the series Fate/Zero but I think it really stands on it's own. It's the violins that really sell it.  ;)

She does other series too, but this particular one has a ton of really epic fighting in it so it's a good sample.

In EQ2, it's easy to replace any music you want. Just find your EQ2 folder, and create a folder called 'custom_music' and then follow the same path format convention you see in the regular music folder. This means you have to rename your MP3 so it's identically named e.g. Qeynos Guild hall music is '...\Everquest II\music\zones\Guildhalls\QEYNOS_GUILDHALL.mp3' so you'll have to copy and rename your favorite MP3 so that it's called '...\Everquest II\custom_music\zones\Guildhalls\QEYNOS_GUILDHALL.mp3'

Whatever music you put into 'custom_music' will override the same name/path file in the normal music folder. Generally though, I try and use instrumental music for zone stuff because voice chat/NPC spoken dialogue is difficult to understand with two people talking/singing at the same time. For combat music, just go crazy.

I guess i gotta work on my instrumental, ambient, discreet, music folder for EQN :)
Though the thing is suspect to be the maintheme, is to awesome to swap out. (in can be heard in the background if you listen closely them xylophones)
