~I was going to make a long post going over the basics but then I realised we have a lot of that info on the boards here.

And even better, we have folks who are eagerly waiting for launch and have really gotten into what makes wildstar tick.

So if anyone has questions about wildstar, please feel free to ask ! Don't be shy ! We have some folks new to mmos in general and some folks new to wildstar and so on, and even folks who may think they know a lot may be lacking in certain things.

Someone who does know will hopefully chime in and answer ( Feel free to nswer if you know and can Help! ) - maybe itll be a short link to a great article or indepth notes or personal experience etc etc

Going to sticky this because info is always awesome.

[Question] What in the world is Roleplay Mode?

Is it a chat channel that only RPers who activate it can read? I didn't really get to investigate it during beta so I'm not really clear on its utility. I'm browsing RP addons and I came across one that keeps referencing Roleplay Mode. Thanks in advance!  O0

I know there is a Roleplay Text Visibility option in chat setting which lets you turn off any chat that you flag as Rp using a marker - I am not sure what this marker actually is - its turned off by default normally but you can go into chat settings and turn it on.
The chat mods automatically turn it on and add a simple way to mark your chat as rp I believe.
That's all I know about it though as I haven't done any mod perusing beyond item preview and name plates

I need more actionbars but will not download an addon.

Any way to multiply the actionbars the game has?

Rumze

I know there are more default action bars you can add - and I heard someone talking about it on mumble . I just can't remember how to . Hopefully someone else can answer this or I'll look into it tomorrow

It looks to me like the extra actionbars default to On, as I can see them on either side of my main  one, they are just transparent without any icons in them. I did stumble across a setting for them, however, I believe in the HUD panel. Given how much Frost tried to sell Limited Action Sets as a feature, however, I doubt you will be able to put any of your real powers in them.

Hit esc - go to hud - enable see right and left action bars - they show up as a small row of button on either side of the main bar.

Gith

If you install the Addon Movable Frames you can relocate them and move other stuff around, which is nice.

Now I just need to figure out how Aura Mastery works so I can put my notifications closer to the centre of my screen.

SW:TOR - Tecta (Dark) / ValGith (Light)
Diablo 3 - Alpharius #1269
Wildstar - Tecta
Lost Ark (NA East-Avesta) - Gith
WWZ - Gith_
FFXIV (NA-Cactaur) - Gith Redmayne

I haven't really delved too deeply with AuraMastery, but I've got it so my cooldown / crit notifications are in a decent spot.

On each spell on your list in AM that you've set up, there should be a padlock icon. They defaulted to locked, so if you click the icon to unlock them you can click and drag the spell icons on your screen to wherever you'd like them. When you've got them where you like, just click the padlock again to lock them in place. Also, in the options of the spell you've set up in AM, you can tick an option for the icons to only appear when you're in combat. I found that to be less annoying when I started having 5 or 6 little icons floating next to my character. Hope that helped some.

Turns out I had two addons running at the same time. One specifically shows procs while AM does everything.

I like the proc one for Flame Burst for spellslingers since you can assign a sound to it. Every time I hear a DOMmmmmm I know it is up and available to shoot.

Scriptorium

Greetings, I'm a newbie slice thinking of apping for Saga, but some of you may or may not know me from Enjin as Scriptorium, or Alairis Antah from SWTOR-RP, back near release. I'm also the author of the Chat Modification addon for Wildstar known as "Killroy." This is my short primer on how RP Mode works in Wildstar.

The ChatLog addon contains what I like to call a "filter" for all "roleplay chat" in wildstar. Though you don't see it, ever text message you send through wildstar chat get's tagged with a variety of variables. One of those variables in Lua is called "bRolePlay". When your chat is tagged with that variable, it's  "roleplay chat." It is NOT channel specific, be warned. There is no RP Only channel in wildstar. If you set your ChatLog to RP Only mode, it will only show you chat that is tagged as RP chat.

As you can imagine, the majority of chat is not so tagged, simply because most users have no idea about how this feature works. So turning on RP Only mode is a great way to make it so you see pretty much nothing in chat. The "Both" mode of the ChatLog addon will show you both RP chat and non-RP tagged chat, which is preferable for most cases general use. RP Only mode is only really usable when you know that the parties you're working with are going to have it enabled as well. Because of this fact, I generally advise people to pretend this feature doesn't exist and simply use regular chat for their RP. If you need privacy, then go to RP Only mode, but otherwise, it can cause more complications than it's worth.

Now, when you turn on RP Only mode, if you don't use Killroy, you'll see a little bit of text get added to your chat prompt, "{*}". This is the RP chat marker. When ChatLog sees that marker, everything that follows it gets tagged as roleplay chat, until it hits another marker or the line ends. There are two other markers: "{#}", which tags subsequent text as "alien" and displays the alien font and "{!}" which removes any tagging from subsequent chat. So, it is possible to send roleplay chat in No RP mode (it will be invisible to you, but it will send) by using these markers. Confusing, no? In addition, because of how it's implemented, when carriage returning into the chat line, in RP Only mode, its very easy to accidentally remove this marker, making the chat you send untagged and invisible to you and your roleplay partners.

This, I'm afraid, is what happens when you let a CS major and programmer who's not a roleplayer design a system for roleplayers and it was among the first things I set out to change when I started building Killroy back in beta. Wildstar also has "faction wall" that obscures chat between the Exile and Dominion factions, making it impossible to do cross faction roleplay. This wall is implemented as... you guessed it... another tag that gets attached to chat (bCrossfaction). Killroy disables this tag by default, allowing you to peer over the faction wall in any public channels that Exiles and Dominion share. It also automatically appends the RP chat tag to all chat you send in RP Only mode, so that you can't accidentally overwrite the marker. Killroy formats your chat as well, allowing your to color code asterik emotes, quotes and ((OOC)) bracketed copy. Finally, in its current revision, it wrangles the huge chat distances that Carbine set for say and emote channels into something a bit more realistic, with occlusion testing for folks behind walls, etc.

Is Killroy in violation of the ToS? No. CRB_Bitwise, the lead UI developer at Carbine, has said on multiple occasions that Carbine wants us to have full peer level access to the Wildstar UI. We have permission to change any aspect of it we like, so long as it does not automate game actions and allow exploitation. Carbine is committed to giving us this freedom and it has been used to remove or change facets of the game, making it more fun for everyone. Killroy has an official thread on the official forums and has since closed beta. ChatLog is just one other part of the UI. So, until I hear otherwise, Killroy users do not need to worry about violating the ToS.

Not to turn this into a huge ad for Killroy, but chat is something I've come to think about a lot and the more folks I figure I give the skinny on how it works in Wildstar, the better off the RP community will be. Anyway, I apologize for my long winded reply and return you to your regular programming.

Hi Scriptorium and welcome to the forums.  :wv I appreciate the information you posted in this thread. I know there has been some confusion on RP mode as well as Killroy and the faction barrier. The information will no doubt be very beneficial to the members of Saga and others who peruse this forum. Cheers

Rumze

Killroy is one of the first addons I got, aside from item preview.

Very interesting, thank you! I have follow-on questions about Kilroy, but I will take them to the addon discussion thread.
