Oooh, I get it. Everyone is done helping *nod*

I *promise* I won't talk about my gfx card issues; i have a senior technician at Radeon on the phone helping.

Will folks talk to me now?  Please?

Database is having issues again due to the server we are on running out of space on their disks AGAIN.

This being the case, its hit or miss on whether or not people can actually use chat, at the moment.

I don't often get all GRRR and stuff.

But.  I need to find out what specifically is causing some major database connection issues.

If you enter chat, and you do not think you'll be actually chatting for the space of  an hour or more, then Log out of Chat.

Please.

Do not leave the window open whilst playing a game, or working, or what-have-you if you run the chance of not actively chatting (being idle) for more than an hour.  Excessive idling causes problems.  It is very difficult for me to differentiate between an idle connection and a ghost connection (that being a connection where the user has actually logged out/closed window, but DB still thinks they are there).

A part of me is tempted to simply go ahead and set up the private Jabber server (IM service similar to MSN) that is offered  with our package.  Would require an outside program to use, but most folks run IM anyway.  Though not from work.

I'll ponder.

There's a bug in the software.  Of a sort.  Well, not ~really~ a bug.

The only way a user can properly Log Out of the chat is to click the red button in the chat and let the popup that comes up fully log you out.  Folks simply clicking the X of the window to close the browser window and/or blocking popups are not being logged out properly.  So, not really a bug, but it's not like I can ~make~ people log out a specific way.  Nor is that really convenient.

This is somewhat bad.  Crashes start happening and the database gets surly.  I ~think~ some of the disk space issues we've experienced may be in part to our database filling up a /tmp partition.

Dunno.  Newest Flashchat version does not fix this problem either.

So, to clarify, I am not GRRR at anyone here.  Just GRR at some software and our server (maybe).

Oies ... merged two topics related on this.

I just upgraded the backend chat software and tweaked / edited some of the coding and config files.

I ~hope~ this will resolve some of the issues we've been having, but will keep a close eye on it.

Please, continue to use chat as you have before.
