The snow blew through the hills of Everfrost covering all with a silvery layer, creating a silent scene before the lone figure. She stood looking over the lands she had not seen for many a season, never realizing to the extent how much she missed her home. She had been feeling many feelings as of late; loss, frustration, love, hate, hurt, pain and many more. Her heart felt alien inside her chest, the ache that resided in it was almost more than she could bare. The spirits had finally come to her in a dream and told her to go home.

Standing with her cape flying behind her she stepped into the winds of the path, her back straight and head high no one would ever know the conflict that resided within. The spirits seemed to accompany her on the journey to which she didn't know the ending destination, she yearned for release and finalization, she sought answers but wasn't sure of the questions, how could she win in the game she entered so blindly.

Memories of her grandparents, thoughts of the past came rushing back to her like a river emptying into the ocean. The happy times as with the sad, they overwhelmed her for she had not thought of them for a very long time. Before the figure realized what she was doing she found herself atop a hill in the Tundra which she had played on as a child, turning to the north she expected to see the home she so sorely missed, to her greatest misery even that was gone, why would the spirits be so callous to bring her home to only see that it had been destroyed.

Katryna fell to the ground in utter despair, she had finally hit the point where she did not think she could return. Kat felt hot tears coursing down her face unable to stop the unusual show of emotion, she knew her friends still would be there but she could not face them now, she could not even face herself.

The sun started to sink into the distance taking the last colors of the day with it leaving Kat in the dark of night, that matched the feeling that now raged within her. Not knowing when or how, Kat had stood up and started to walk, one foot after the other, off further into the Tundra away from the pain and sorrow, away from all emotion that raged in her before this moment. Nothing around her seemed to exist.

Katryna awoke with a start, the memories of the past night fresh in her mind sent shivers quaking through her body. She noticed she was now in a bed but how she got here she had no idea, she only remembered walking with the spirits, she was covered with animal skins and she also noticed a blazing fire in the middle of the cozy room. Whose home did she find herself in, how had she got here, where was here, she did not know what to think.

Kat decided to get out of the bed and look around, there was an old wooden table and chairs against the north wall, it had that appearance of age and ware but the solidity of it was unbelievable. A shelf was positioned on the west wall, on it stood many different containers which appeared to contain various types of herbs used for alchemy. It must be a shaman's home she had found herself in, continuing to look around she noticed the place had a feeling of welcome to it, she did not feel threatened at all, it was almost like a sanctuary of sorts.

Suddenly, just past the jars she was examining a door had started to open, through it came a elderly woman, she had wrinkled skin, shrunken form, white hair but her eyes, her eyes were most amazing, they rooted you where you stood. Katryna at first could not take her eyes off of the old woman, the spirits seemed to be one with her, along with a wisdom that seemed to emanate from her.

The old one stood there staring at Kat then she spoke "My darling child ye have finally came to me. I have been waiting many generations for one such as yourself to be born, I felt your strength the day you took your first breath out of your mothers womb." Kat stared at the woman in disbelief. Stories her Grandmom had taught her as a child suddenly took meaning but as a child when she heard the stories she felt she would be afraid, now she felt no fear.

The woman crossed the floor towards the fire and picked up a blackened coffee pot that had been sitting in the fire, she then went to the table and poured coffee in the two cups that sat there. The aroma that floated from those mugs was delicious.

A few minutes later Kat was sitting across from the woman taking a sip from her mug, the taste that was let loose upon her tongue was unbelievable. The old woman just sat there and stared at her then she began to speak.

"My child, I see it in your eyes you have guessed who I am, your Grandmom told her stories well I would venture to guess. Aye I am your ancestor and I have waited here so I could teach ye understanding of the spirits. Your Grandmom had told you stories of the spirits and how they effect our lives so greatly. There are very few that have a special ability to not just sense the spirits but to also have a much closer relationship with them by coming here you have already proved this of yourself.

They sat across from each other not saying a word, just staring, spirits seemed to gather around them both like a protection of mist. Suddenly the older woman stood up and said "now that you know, the training will begin". Kat felt a change come over her, what she once doubted became so much clearer and what once took for granted now became challenged. The good did not over power the evil but neither did the evil overpower the good, she could see from both sides more clearly, along with that came the reasoning of why she must do that which she was destined for.

The older woman explained to Kat of the spirits, the wolf and his speed, the snake and his charm and the list went on. Spirits that make you fight better, spirits that protect you and even spirits that kill for you, yes they were all there for the calling, but only few would reach the level of total obedience by them.

Kat started to make some sense of the spirits she had seen before that no one else could see, she started being able to read what they were saying and she felt as one with them. It felt so right to Kat so much so that she could not imagine being without them. She knew now she would never be truly alone as the spirits were always near.

After what seemed to Kat as weeks of training the woman approached her and said "The time has come my child, I have taught ye all that I can, but I sense you will also learn much more as your life travels take you further than I could dream. It puts joy in me to have been the one to teach you the ways of the spirit callers, now it is your turn to go back to this world in which you live and make a difference. Donna forget though if you ever need me it is not just the animal spirits that you can summon but also others," then she walked out of the door.

Katryna ran to the door and opened it but the woman had left and she was left there in the hut with the spirits. Kat walked back into the room and headed straight for the bed, inside she felt a great loss and the spirits that she had become accustomed to talking to seemed to cry out in pain. Katryna somehow had fallen asleep.

When Kat awoke she found herself amongst the ruins of her Grandparents home with a note that said "Dearest child, go to the Ocean of Tears, there you will meet a gnome pirate captain, if he attacks, ye call the spirits to yer aid. This will be your first experience with a greater spirit".

Kat stood up feeling like everything had been a dream, she knew that wasn't true as the spirits were more apart of her then ever before.

Kat left the Tundra, left the snow ridden paths, left Everfrost as she had known it. This was a new beginning for her and from this step forward she would never look back again. Katryna traveled to the spires in North Karana, the Scion there gave her a ride to the Nexus. While Kat sat at the Nexus waiting upon a Scion, she closed her eyes and opened herself completely to the spirits. She felt them around her, in her, above her, everywhere. Kat then thought of all the stories of her mother, she let the memories float from her subconscious, when she opened her eyes a gasp escaped her lips................

Kat lifted her hands that had formed into fists and rubbed her eyes refusing to admit what she was seeing, after she lowered her hands and opened her eyes once again her vision was first blurry and then went back to normal.
Still the vision remained standing or even floating in front of her, Kat raised to a standing position with her eyes drawn to the woman that was before her. Her hair was almost the same color as Kat's, maybe a little lighter, she had emerald green eyes that were shining, her face appeared soft and her whole body had a glow emanating from it.

"I fear to ask ye the question that must be said or maybe I fear the answer ye will be givin me..........are ye the mother that was taken from me at my birth?" The vision smiled a most beautiful smile at Katryna, Kat felt hope building within her but not wanting to feel the pain of being wrong.

The woman moved closer to Kat and reached out her hand to touch Katryna's cheek, "Aye I am yer Mother, ye are my baby girl that I could never hold. As the spirits came to take me away that day the pain that ripped threw my breast was unbearable but the spirits showed me it had to be this way. I was allowed to watch ye from above but not to show meself, they said the day would come that ye would call me and then that would be when ye were ready. I canna stay long my beautiful child but remember this, I love ye and will always be watching ye. I am vera proud of ye Katryna and donna worry ye will make the right choices even if it takes some wrong ones to get there."

Katryna tried to put her hand on her mothers but it went right through, tears streaming down her face freely she listened to what her mother said. "Oh please do not leave me again, there is so many choices, so many doubts, I need you Mother!" "You will find your way Katryna, ye are my child and ye will endure as well as my love will always be with you, just close your eyes and you will feel it my child."

Katryna wiped the tears from her eyes and then her Mother was gone. Katryna slumped back to the floor trying to accept what just happened. "Mother if you can still hear me remember this, I will try me best and make ye proud but please come back to see me again when ye can."
