It never went away.  The fee will decrease for those who currently have the plan (a good thing), and everyone else who currently "subscribes" to individual games today gets upgraded to this new buffet plan (another good thing).

This entire plan formed after a MAJOR uproar a few weeks ago when SOE announced a completely different model they were planning on going with for handling their individual title Gold memberships (largely to help with an accounting issue involving monthly Station Cash subscriber grants).  63 pages of feedback (and that was just from the EQ2 playerbase) and a smedley reddit later, they'd started forming the seeds of this plan they just announced.  Nice damage control on the PR front for certain, I'd say.
