Moving toward the Keshu and Mixxi's wedding

A small sound at the end of the inn hallway caused the little figure on the floor near one of the guestroom doors to rise to her feet, a blade suddenly in her hand where none had been before. Nothing rewarded her search of the shadows, and she returned to sit crosslegged again on the worn wooden boards. The detailed, painstaking work of her fletching seemed to absorb her attention, but her senses roamed the hallway and stretched to penetrate the room behind the door at her back. Time passed as late night revelers returned to their rooms, then a brief parade of small, furtive men and women made their silent ways to their rest. At last, nothing but the deep, slow breathing of sleep filled the rooms around her.

Putting aside her work, she slowly got to her feet, stretching cramped muscles as she rose. A few deft movements at the lock of the room, and she opened the door (a legacy from her time with Mungo) and slipped inside.

Her eyes met a pair of glowing golden eyes in the shadows of the room and exchanged a silent greeting. He was safe, the eyes seemed to say to her. But of course, that reassurance was not enough, and she silently crossed to the bed, laying her hand briefly on Rishi Ka's back as she passed.

The big beastlord lay curled in the bed in such a young, innocent position that it made her heart ache. The tip of his tongue poked out between his teeth, his lips slightly parted. She was grateful to see that in sleep he had escaped the strain she had seen in him these last few days. He seemed constantly on guard, and he had become annoyingly protective of her, not allowing her to leave his sight. He had even wanted them to share a room so that Rishi Ka might guard them in the night! Luckily she had convinced him that a friend of her's in the town guard had found her a bunk in the garrison. Some things were just too much to ask in the name of safety!

She had dragged bits of information out of him. The disaster outside the tavern. His killing of the drunken man when he attacked Rishi Ka. And the other man. The one who had faded into the shadows. She remembered how his deep, honeyed voice had broken when he had spoken of what he had done. She had tried to remind him of the bond between him and Rishi Ka--that it had given him no choice but to act without thinking in her defence. But he spoke of rumored threats from the second man, and looked at her with fear in his eyes, as if she might be snatched away from him any moment.

She leaned over the sleeping Vah Shir and breathed in his spicy scent, allowing herself the luxury of closing her eyes for a moment. A mistake. Wearyness washed over her, and to avoid its hold she turned and walked out the door without a backward look. The hallway and her fletching awaited her and she bent to her task. She could not keep going much longer without sleep, but his dread had worn off on her. She would not lose him when he would so soon become hers forever. Nothing would take that from her.

Bippin was upset. He just came back from a prowl in Freeport's worse areas, and he always hated that city. It smelled so bad. And this time, he was alone there. He was dragging his net desperately through the Freeport underworld, trying to fish for any morsel of information, as the wedding was so near.
And just at this time of great need, Bridh, who had all of freeport in the palm of her hand, was away. Yes, he talked to the Den mother, but she was kind of cold, and wasn't really much help. The freeport guild was very tight fisted, and he never needed them before, he always had Bridh.
So he went thtough all the usual places, dropped coin to some, threatened others, until finally he found someone who talked... well... eventually he talked. He'll probably have some trouble serving drinks for a week or two though. Now he's to meet Mixxi in a couple of hours to go and hunt giants, and he'll have to tell her that someone was asking about Keshu, and about the wedding.
And that this someone was to the best of his knowledge a practitioner of the dark arts, a shadowknight, or even a necromancer, out for revenge. The man in the bar was terrified, but eventually gave in *Bippin grins evilly at the thought* The barman didn't know much more, of that he was certain. But that was worrying enough.
He also found out about the incident with the drunk, and Rishi Ka. She was easy enough to remember for the freeport residents, it seemed, there was no problem getting this information. Keshu killed a drunk, and then someone is asking about him and hinting revenge. *sigh*

"I know that I'm coming to the wedding in full armor, and not laying down my weapons as the custom dictates. This does not bode well. If needed I'll just hide, and if nothing happens, well, I was uncomfortable for an hour or two. But I'm not letting Mixxi and Keshu go through this alone."

With that thought, he sat down near the hut, took out his spit, and began the grueling job of making bat wing crunchies. Soon Dondi will come and they will hunt, and forget all about that. But can he?

Another run through freeport. He could never get used to the smell. How could these people live there? Or maybe it was just him feeling that, maybe it was all in the mind and not the senses?
A couple more stinking dens, a few more platinum pieces changing hands. He wanted to know if there was any news. In the Seafarer's Roost he hit paydirt. The fellow had too much to drink it seemed, and spilled some information Bippin was all too happy to pick up.
A few free drinks for the patron, with a promise of some plat to come, were enough to loosen his tongue.

"You see, this fella was here, sitting right there next ta me, having some drinks. I of course ordered him a round, and we start chatting"
The man grinned evilly.
"It was after a few more rounds that he asked me if I understood revenge. I told him of course I did. He said that I knew nothing. He asked if I ever concocted a slow poison, that tortures a soul for days before killing it, before the pain stops. He asked if I pursued someone for years and then took weeks to kill them. He asked if I ever flayed anyone alive."
The man went a little pale. After taking a swig from his ale, he continued.
"Well, I had ta admit I did none of this things". He chuckled weakly.
"He then proceeded to say that this cat had it coming, that he will have revenge like he never had before, that his brother's death will be avenged and his brother's spirit laid to rest. He said he was going to Faydwer today, and that he will see to it personally."
Bippin had to ask.
"Did he mention a name?"
"Yes, he did" said the man.
"Keshu".

The strangest thing happened ta me in Kaladim yesterday.

I was sittin on the very tip-top of the metal structure that covers the mine there in the middle of Kaladim. Ya know...the one right next ta the buildin that houses the bank?

I can usually sit up there in peace, and no one pesters me at all. Heheh. By Karana, I honestly believe that no one ever looks up above eye level.

Anyhows, I was sittin there, mindin my own beeswax when I hear a footstep behind me.

Startled (I just about jumped outta my boots), I turned around ta see who it was. Twas a human fella with dark hair and a right mean lookin face. He stared at me with an icy glare...like he somehow knew me and hated me with a downright passion.

Afore I could ask him about his business, he turned about and ran off...in the direction of the paladin guild.

Twas an odd experience, cause ole Tupp isna used ta strangers lookin at him with an unfounded intense hatred.
