The shadows seemed to sway and shake as the man walked out of them surrounded still by the dark of night, his piercing black eyes picked out the group easy enough. They were preparing to travel, so the informant had been right. He thought to himself, ah but what is their destination, I must know I can not lose her now. He inched closer to the group and heard someone refer to Guk, ah he thought to himself that is where they think to go, ah well it will be easy to keep an eye on them there........the man backed away quietly slipping back into the shadows.

rap rap rap squeeeaaaakkkk *as the door slowly opens*

Who...who is out there............came a squeaky male voice followed by silence

The door is opened a little bit more....

A head peers out of the door looking around when out of the shadows a hand appears and pulls the man through the opening and then throws him up against the wall. When the man was able to focus he recognized the shadowy figure at once.

What....what do you want of me, I did your bidding already, what more do you want?

The man tightened his grip on the other mans throat and pushed him harder against the wall, "I will tell you what to do and when to do it, do NOT ask me the questions".

"Go to Guk, there is people going there I want to know when they leave, I will be most unhappy with you if they leave and I do not find out" taking his hand away from the other mans throat suddenly causes him to fall to the ground. The shadowed man pulls out a serrated dagger and runs it along the other mans hand, creating a red line to appear, a branding of sorts. I must not lose the girl again he thought to himself, she is the key to my destiny, she is the bait for the hook, and then when the fish is caught I will teach her to do my bidding.

The halfling ran out of Guk and towards the closest tree, he needed a hiding place where he could still keep a eye of them but not be seen. As he slid into the marshy water at the base of the tree out walked the human. He was muscular and had a branding of sorts on his chest, the only ones the halfling knew with a branding such as that, were monks. He seemed to be well seasoned as he walked with confidence, but his last name that the halfling heard him called was most bothersome. Ah it didn't matter, a puzzle for his master if he wished.

Next came the gnome, she walked with grace and importance. She was a magician his master had told him and he was to stay away from her, his master just wanted him to keep an eye on her.

The halfling could feel the anger rise in him as he seen the next person to walk out, this was the one that caused his master to give him so many beatings, this is the one that his master would not rest until he had his hands on him. He already knew they were heading for Freeport, he had overheard them inside while they were battling.

While the group was getting everything ready the halfling scribbled out a note telling his master of what he had learned and asking his guidance. He attached a rune to the page, his master would sense it as soon as the bard carried it close to the city.

As the bard approached the outer walls of Freeport somebody watched him from the secret entrance that led to the underground passageways in Freeport. The watcher lurked in the dark shadows waiting for the right moment, he could sense the rune as soon as the bard started through the Oasis.

Patience, I must wait until he is right in front of me, I can not allow the guards to suspect anything or it could ruin everything. 5 4 3 2 1 swooooooosh his hand snaked out from the unseen entrance and grabbed the Bard by the throat as he came right in front of the opening. "Ah you can try to yell as much as you want, it will do you no good. I am just going to look in your mail pouch here, I feel you have something of mine and I can not allow you to take it any further". SMACK <silence> The watcher knocked the Bard so hard it sent him out cold.

He lifted up the pouch and moments later the letter was in his hands. As he opened the letter and starts to read a frown appears on his forehead. "So the party now heads back to Freeport". The watcher read further and pondered over the information and then the clan name the gnome had taken up with, "I will have to find out more about this clan".

Turning around to give his attention to the bard laying sprawled on the ground, disgust built up in side of him at the bards weakness. "There is no room for the weak" he mumbled to himself, he then pulled out the dagger he had branded the halfling with and bent closer to the bard, when the bards eyes fluttered open the watchers face was only inches away. The bard recognizing who he was in the presence of, almost jumped out of his skin, he knew that this was going to be the end, he had heard of this man. The bard watched in complete horror as the Watcher's hand raised above him with the dagger firmly held, then slowly so the Watcher could guarantee the Bard knew what was coming, he started to lower the dagger to the Bards throat and the sharp edge dug deep into the skin slicing it open, the bard could see his life shooting out of him before everything went black. Picking up the mail bag, the Watcher used the flap to clean the wet sticky blood that dripped from the dagger when the deed was done.

*sigh* "Why do I always have to waste my time with undeserving fools" he said to himself as he turned and vanished back into the shadows.

The heat was almost unbearable for the halfling, taking a dirty rag from his pocket he proceeded to wipe the sweat from his forehead as it now was running into his eyes. "Why do I have to do this", grumbled the halfling to himself as he walked down the path to Solusek Eye. "Why don't we just take both the gnomes now, it would not be hard", the halfling trips on a rock then flies head over heals down the path. Just as he is about to go over the side into the bubbling pit of lava he latches onto niche in the rock. Pulling himself up he lost his soiled rag and proceeded to call down every god he had ever heard of.

He moved swiftly and quietly to the place he knew the gnomes had went, just inside of Nagafen's Lair. As he rounded the corner just ahead of him was a high elf and a shaman but no gnomes, "hmmm they must be further in". As he went down the path he could see around another corner to an open area and stopped suddenly. "Ah there they are, but what is going on here, their group has grown." The High Elf moved to the other side of the open area and the gnome moved beside the shaman on the ramp. The gnome looked as if he was worn out abit. The Halfling stared at him immensely letting his anger bore into the gnome but unable to do anything. He could imagine the look on the gnomes face when the master forced the lady gnome into marriage, he could not wait, an evil grin spreading across his face.

He noticed that they all seemed to wear the same insignia, they were all a member of this Saga clan.

"So now they have a High Elf amongst them", by the magic she weaves the halfling guessed her to be a cleric of sorts. She seemed to be very good at what she did which could mean trouble, yes another missive would have to be sent to the master post haste.

He looked to his left where the Barbarian stood, she seemed to be calling on the spirits to aid the party "this one must be a shaman" he thought to himself. She watched all of the party at once. She seemed to always cast a glance at the gnomes, making sure they were ok. The halfling remembered the monk doing this as well. Why are these people so protective of one another.

Right behind the spider that they had surrounded and were killing stood a beautiful halfling, he knew her from her description. She was a rogue that someone else had dealings with, it was a job that was offered to him but he had turned down, he did not like spying directly on other halflings, it just was not right. But her being here would not bode well with his master, he definitely would be sending word by post not wanting to be close to his master when he read about the additions.

Just as he turned to return to the top of the ramp to watch at a safe distance the shaman turned and stared right at him. His heart almost stopped, how could he let his guard down. He ran around the corner out of sight, cursing himself all the way. He could hear the shaman asking if the others had saw someone and then heard her steps coming towards him. He ran further away and hoped she do not come any further. The shaman had stopped and looked around but did not see him, she returned to where she was before.

Sitting down the halfling once again started to put to paper the details for his master, thanking the gods he was not the one to deliver this information.

The Watcher stood up from the table and moved silently almost drifting to the door as to pass undetected by the others in the tavern. A rippling sensation was running and down his spine, it had been becoming stronger and stronger in the last hour. "Another message already" he thought to himself.

As he made his way in and out of the shadows seeking that which he new was near, he was going over the bits of conversations he had heard. "This clan is different than any other I have seen, how can they be so close, how is it they will drop anything to aid one another. Hmmmmm If the stories be true I will have to plan well the abduction, the gnome by then will know that it is I that threatens him and all that he holds dear."

Imagines of many horrific tortures run through The Watchers mind that he can do to the gnome when he has him finally within his grasp, which one would he start with. An evil grin appeared on his face, of course since his not yet wife will already be here as bait maybe I will marry her first in front of him and give him some examples of what she will have to endure after I am done with him.

With the potential tortures roaming his mind he almost tripped over the drunken dwarf that lay under a tree in the middle of nowhere. The Watcher kicked him in the ribs to see if he would move. The dwarf had a strong intake of air and then seem to go back into a deep sleep. The watcher bent over the sleeping form and reached inside his pocked to pull out the missive with the rune. Hmmmm the halfling will have to be taught how to pick better couriers.

Opening the note he read the words and then read them once again. "His traveling companions change it seems and more are being added", The Watcher stared down at the passed out dwarf as he thought "Some may try to interfere when the time comes" a frown crossing The Watchers face "I hate my time being wasted by these utterly useless pathetic people, why do they not realize when they have been beaten. I just want the gnome, once I heard of his impending marriage I knew I had found his weakness but these others will definitely be a pain."

The Watcher stood wondering what would be the best way to accomplish that which he wanted, anger growing in him at how complicated such a simple task was becoming. Looking at the helpless dwarf that laid sprawled out on the ground The Watcher found something to take his anger out on, "you picked the wrong day to become a deliverer of mail dwarf". The Watcher pulled out his trusty dagger and with one hand holding the dwarfs head up he sliced his throat straight through.

The Watcher cleaned off his dagger and put it back in the bag with his bone chips, then returned to the Tavern as if nothing had happened.

The bright sun slowly floated down from the sky, disappearing in the distance. The Watcher greeted the darkness with enthusiasm, embracing it like a long lost friend. "Now is the time to venture to Ak'Anon" he thought to himself, "I must find out who this person is, the group at the middle table in the Tavern had made it sound like the gnome spent alot of time with him." The Watcher stepped off the boat and started on his way to the gnome city.

He had to be very careful around here, they did not like his kind at all. "These ridiculous useless wretches, they have the nerve to think themselves above me." Keeping to the shadows he moved into Ak'Anon without being observed. The Watcher had just entered the zoo area when he noticed a gnome sitting alone on the bench, The watcher rubbed his eyes and had to look twice, "this gnome sitting here, sitting right in front of me is the spitting image of the other. How can this be, how can there be two." He could sense that this gnome was different but the physical similarities were amazing. The Watcher looked around the area and noticed no one was here but him and the gnome, an idea started to form within his head.

"I must find out more, " as he approached the gnome he could see paper in the gnomes lap and a mechanical pen in his hand, he was just signing his name RORAC. The Watcher thought to himself "this must be the one they were talking about". "This has to be a brother, hmmm I would think a brother would be able to tell me many things, he may be just what I need," an evil grin appeared slowly on his face, distorting his features even more.

The Watcher pulled a gray piece of cloth from his pocket and gingerly unfolded it. Inside was a off-white colored powder, a powder so strong it would immobilize a ogre in mere seconds. This would let a person see what was going on but beyond that, nothing. Slowly bending close to the back of the gnome and bringing the cloth closer to his lips he whispered "you will aid me in the death of your brother." Rorac jerked around and The Watcher blew the powder into Rorac's face. Rorac fell to the floor looking up into the face of The Watcher unable to move.

Rorac lay on the cold hard stone floor surrounded by blackness, he could hear breathing close by but was to disoriented to know what it was. The fog that had taken residence in his head was starting to dissipate, thinking was becoming possible but along with it came pain. The only thing he could remember was sitting in the zoo and watching the animals, and someone whispering something. To his left he sensed someone or something watching him, should he move and let it know he was awake, or wait to see what happened.

"Ah his breathing shows he is awake" thought The Watcher, "now the time has come to see what he can tell me." The Watcher took a step closer and noticed the gnome tense, a grin spread across his face knowing the gnome would soon regret waking.

The Watcher stepped out of the Shadows and Rorac raised his head to see who his captor was. Shock registered across his face, "what would a Dark Elf want with me, why not just kill me, why has he brought me here, this does not make sense" he thought.

"You know of a gnome name Rorack and you WILL tell me everything you know or I will kill you, it is that simple there is no other choice and I have no time to waste, the choice is yours gnome." said the Watcher as his eyes gleamed in the shadowy cell. Rorac looked at the Dark Elf with his black hair and black robe, "What do you want of my brother?" Rorac inquired. The Watcher stepped forward and without a second hesitation motioned for his skeletal pet to strike Rorac. Rorac's head bounced off of the wall to his right. "I said I have no time to waste, that means NO questions, JUST answers you pathetic waste or flesh!".

Rorac knew deep down that he would not live regardless of what he said and being a Paladin he would not give in to this representation of pure evil. Rorac looked up at the Dark Elf and in a strong controlled voice said "Kill me Dark Elf for I will not tell you nothing of my brother, if I had a blade in my hands right now you would not be standing!"

The Watcher looked at the gnome in disgust, "Why must you be so pathetic? Then yes you will die, but I will take my pleasure at making it as slow and painfully as I can", with a grin slowly appearing on The Watchers face, Rorac could feel the skeletal pets grip now upon his arms. "Brother I hope you make this evil pay for what he is about to do" prayed Rorac. Rorac knowing there was no escape closed his eyes and shut himself off from the outside world, entering the void within himself where no feeling existed and waited for death to take him...........

The halfling brought himself to a stop at the corner of the ruins, he could hear their voices. Slowly peaking his head around the corner he seen them in their group preparing for battle. "The gnome was there and yes the female as well. The monk was off to one side talking to the halfling rogue, the shaman was talking to her spirits, and hey and a new one, a dwarf if I guess right by the beard and she seems to have a cleric look to her. Well time to write the Master again."
thought the halfling.

He sat down on the ground and hid himself right up against the stone wall of the ruins, pulling out a bottle of ogre swill, he took a huge swig and tossed it back in his bag. Next he reached in for the dirty piece of parchment that had been squashed in the bottom of his bag along with the pen he had acquired some time ago.

Master:

I write to you again, this time it is from The Dreadlands. They have stopped here for awhile it appears. I have found the girl alone sometimes which can be handy for when you are ready to make your move. She seems to have become more powerful than the first time you seen her but she still should be not a problem.

You are right, the gnome does seem to be protective of her when he is awake and also the others, but she is the key to getting him alone I am sure of it.

Master can I go home soon, I have followed for many days and I grow weary.

Your trusting servant

You always told me not to put my name of these.

The Watcher paced the floor wondering what to do next. His enquiries of the family had not brought much information. The only good that had come to him lately was the ability to change form, they would never guess until it was too late, and Rorack would be in his grasp.

The Watcher must lesson the protective layer of friends that formed around the gnomes, the Monk must be eliminated or sent so deep into his anger that he does not see what is happening until it is too late. The rogue had not been around much and the clerics changed from time to time. Of course the one named Ntallya that was to marry the gnome was still there and he would enjoy taking her. If his plans went right for the Shamaness then she too would be eliminated from the circle that so firmly stood in place.
