Trouble with Sound

So, when I head ig, I have sound for my computer.  When I try to play music online or watch a show (Heroes!) online, I can't.

When I go to control panel and audio devices, it says I don't have anything installed.

The speakers are plugged in and working...I know this because I have lovely sound ig.

What is going on and how can I fix it?

You have a Sound Blaster card, right?

this happened to me recently, and has to do with Vanguard and some new windows Direct X stuff, I think. the solution that worked for me was to go to Soundblasters website and download the newest drivers. There's an automatic update tab thing, so it should be easy.
