Hello!

I was chatting with Vilidius on the SWTOR boards, and he suggested that I post here to introduce myself.  (Which is great, since my workplace blocks the SWTOR site.)

About me, I'm in my late 30s and despite playing games since Pong and despite that I've been online with my 300 baud modem for my C64 on the local BBS scene, I've never really taken to any MMO (unless you count MUDs back in the mid 1990s).  Bioware is going to change that, I love the quality of product that they put out, and I love Star Wars and I love KOTOR as well.

I spent a lot of time looking over the Guilds because playing Champions Free For All (a test for seeing if I should consider SWTOR) was really kinda meh doing everything solo. I want a Guild that's friendly, intelligent and willing to help and play alongside someone with really zero Guild/MMO experience.

From talking with Vil, I think this will be the right choice for me.

In game, I'm still looking at the mechanics and classes, but there's a good chance I'll end up playing a Jedi I had created as an NPC for a briefly run KOTOR era Star Wars game.  A Jedi Knight fits her character and it also fits my solo play style which is bash on things, using powers as a secondary method and soaking lots of damage.

That's where I think I'll be headed, and the avatar I posted here is that Jedi, Vifi Sunfell. She's confident, capable and more ruthless than a "modern" Jedi with a demeanor that will turn rude and snippy pretty fast in non-diplomatic situations.

I'm ready to go as soon as those servers are up.

Good to meetchya!

Welcome from one pong-playing, C-64 using BBSer from the Olden Days TM to another.  You can join me in shaking our walkers at Those Kids as they chases their ball across our lawn. :D

Welcome!  You know, as I was saying, one of the real joys of recruiting for TOR has been the continual discovery of so many people who sound like they might have been here for the past 10 years and we just never noticed before.  I take this as a good sign.  Saga was ahead of its time - we just needed to wait for the rest of the gaming community to catch up.  =)

Again, welcome!  Now hurry up and wait like the rest of us.

Greetings and welcome.
The Old Timer guild sounds like it has another member.
I never used my C64 online, but I did use it to create a D&D character sheet.
How about a Vic20 with a Tape Backup, does that count?

And don't sweat the MMO aspect of the video games, you log in and we'll do the rest.

Greetings!

I think you've found a good choice with people here who enjoy the company of others first and foremost, not just their MMO resume.

Vifi Sunfell

Thanks everyone.  I know I'll be on the board here since I can't access SWTOR (plus lightsaber noises during meetings is not something you want on your review).

My first PC was actually the VIC-20, and yes, I did have the Tape Player.  Calling it a Tape Backup is a bit dodgy, since that would elicit images of modern tape backups.  That style of Tape Player was more like, "well, if I sacrifice my audio cassette of Fleetwood Mac, I don't have to retype the 300 lines of code so I can watch an asterisk bounce around a screen."

Luckily, I was always envisioning a human character, so I won't have to worry about the races playable at startup.

That was just a test. You passed. Well done.
Sorry about your Fleetwood Mac. I've mailed you MJ's Thriller as a replacement.

Welcome to Saga!  I'm new here too.  I think I have been here a whole 2 days more than you ROOKIE!  :P

Enjoy the roleplaying and the stories.  We can explain the MMO game mechanics.

I'm watching Leeroy Jenkins just to get up to speed.  No worries.

You! You, are my new favorite Recruit.
Well played.
Does this mean I have a really high standard to live up to now?  Or does having your favor make me persona non grata in finer bookstores and supermarkets everywhere?  :D

Grimaldo

Y'all are actually making me feel kinda young considering my first computer was a 486 running at 66Mhz, and my first modem was 2400 baud. heh  Though I did dabble on other people's Apple IIs, Vic20s, C64s, and the good ol' TRS-80.

Oh, and welcome Ryscandor. :wv

Luxury!

I was jazzed when my dad got a 486.  I used it to play Ultima VII.  It took up over 50% of his 40MB hard drive.

Mixxi

Welcome, welcome. Love someone who enjoys the classics, whether Pong or Leeeeeroy!

BTW, I can make you all feel young. I learned to program using punchcards and a teletype  on the UC Berkeley mainframe.

Okay, you got me there.  Although I will drop that when I was a tyke, my dads office still had all the punchcards - which were being used for scrap paper at that point.  He did have those large reel-to-reel storage units in use at that time.

PinkRose

I like that everyone ignored your question about high standards to live up to or persona non grata.
I believe you will get both answers depending on the time of day and who you ask.
And answers from either MostToys or Grimaldo don't count because I've met both of them in Real Life.
