So my very specific question is this:

When I started to log on the other night, EQ asked me if I wanted to do a deep scan of my files because something corrupted happened.  I was tired and just told it to boot up as normal.

That was a bad plan.

So I stopped logging in and I'd like to have the deep scan done before I log in again.

How do I get EQ to either re-offer to deep scan or just get it to do so?

If you are using the original login/patcher to get into EQ2 (the one sporting artwork for the current expansion), you are using the Launchpad.  If you are using the "universal" multi-SOE-game-plus-chat-client application to start up EQ2, then you are using the Station Launcher.  Choose your remedy below:

In EQ2 Launchpad:
Login.  Beneath the PLAY/UPDATE button, click the Preferences button, and then click the Full File Scan button.

In Station Launcher:
Login.  Station menu > Preferences... > Select Everquest II > click Run Full Scan.

Thank you Jasyn  :smitten:

So, I needed the explanation of which launcher I have (Station launcher) but I can't find the last step:Run full scan.

It does give me the option to remove the cache files and I wondered if I should do that.

I also investigated under control panel the software I have installed.  Oddly, EQII doesn't show up but Station Launcher did. So I asked for a repair of station launcher, but I'm pretty sure that did nothing as it took only a second.

This is really odd. Why isn't EQ2 showing up in my list of software programs?

....maybe I need tea....

Ok, deleted scan cache and it said if I do so, it'll automatically do a full scan next time..YAY!   :tan:

Hey! So if I wanted to switch to the EQ2 launcher, how do I do that?

And should I want to switch?

I just went to the game website, and did it as if I was getting the free trial.  It will run all the files you need again, but instead of making a new account, you use your old account info.  I am a guide, and I use the old log in for Noehy's info (because the old login is tied to my maps) and the new one for my guide info, so there is not scratching my head trying to remember a login.

Something I have noticed with Vista is that you need to tell the launcher to Run As Administrator.

Yes, sorry about that.  That's an older version you're using; in the later releases, the button has since been re-labeled for clarity.

Your EQ2 may not show in Add/Remove Programs because of the way Station Launcher handles installations of individual games... I'm not certain as I already had EQ2 installed completely (initiated via my old installation discs) before I switched to using Station Launcher, so it was kind of seamless for me.  At any rate, "repairing" an EQ2 installation would most likely only involve resetting your scan cache and/or deleting files in order to force the patcher to re-download them depending on the persistency of the problem.

If you want to give the old Launchpad a swing, you can kickstart it using the EQ2.exe file in your Everquest II folder.

It'll come down to personal preference for you, so find one that actually works, and then just stick with it.  Each uses a separate scan cache, so you wouldn't necessarily want to flip flop back and forth between the two or else you'll potentially end up waiting through a lot of unnecessary scans.

Personally, I switched to the Launcher primarily because Launchpad would ocassionally get bugged after scanning.  The Launchpad Play button would get stuck on "Updating" and never enable, so I would have to restart and initiate another scan.  I also really like the Station Launcher friends functionality and that I can set the Launcher to download updates in the background when I leave it running.  As a result, I almost never have to wait through a patch anymore.

(Note: as I've recently discovered, avoiding patches can also be achieved by not playing, but that's not what I meant  ;)).

Miss you very much :smitten:

Thanks for the explanations! I think I have everything up and running alright.  I ctd last night, once, but otherwise it ran beautifully.
