Weirdness that I'm experiencing with the site

Now, I know that you've put a lot of work into this site, and it's absolutely wonderful.  Maybe you can help me solve a little problem.

Now I've checked both machines and I can't find any reason why I cannot do the following on my home and work computers.

OOh, a new one just popped up.  I tried to use the bullets and nothing happened.  It's almost like everything has been turned off for posting.  The only thing I'm allowed to do in here is type.

Cannot use controls like Bold, em, underline, quote, smilies, cannot use the mouse to highlight text while in message window.

I click on things and nothing happens.  It's almost like I'm suddenly restricted, and no idea why.

I've checked my firewall, internet explorer settings.

It only works with Firefox, and wondering about it.

Hrm.

Katu just posted a bit ago and is having no problems with smilies and formatting, and I've seen a couple other folks posting using smilies since your initial alert on the shout.

I've not changed anything personally that would alter anything as far as that goes ... permissions any of that.  Nor are there permissions to set for using the text editors anywho.  And if its specific to IE on your computers, then there's a glitch somewhere in there.  I can do some research, but I don't believe its a site problem.

First question that comes to mind is "What version of internet explorer are you using?"  also, do you have anything installed that would prevent java scripting or scripting of any sort via the browser?  Also, have you changed anything at all, even if it doesn't ~seem~ to be connected, before the problem started occurring?  Like maybe a windows update that upgraded IE in any way?

Ok, I'm using IE 6.0 and I have XP SP2.  This is the first time that I've seen this on this site.

It's just really strange.  I'm still checking the security level of my browser, my firewall, spyware speepers, and so far, I don't see anything.

This isn't a super duper major issue, but I do think it's strange that I experienced it on two different machines.  If the laptop for work was working (hardware issues), I'd have tried it on that too.

I may just have to switch to Firefox for awhile, since it works with that.

Don't deal with it tonight, have a nice Saturday, and look at it later!

hah ha, I just tried to post this and I've answered some of your questions above!  I'm going to recheck my settings, but so far, I'm allowing scripting.  I'll tool around in my settings a little longer.

The only thing I've found thus far with other SMF admins who have experienced this issue with some users is that their browser isn't pulling the script.js file or is having issues being able to run it.  I have some suspicions ... as in murmurings here and there with IE6 SP@ having  intermittent issues with Javascript 1.2 ... but nothing verified, and I'm not sure off the top of my head which version script.js here is.

Will poke more thoroughly later though ... it's got me curious ;)

One thing to do is see if you can turn error loggin on in IE or somesuch ... isn't there a little tiny icon at the bottom of IE where you can click it to see scripting errors?

Gwenae

Ok, I'll make sure that's on.  I checked my settings and everything else looks good on this end.
