What fun!  Thanks!  Dead giveaway it's a hoax?  The exclamation! marks!  Never saw a scientific article that used a single one!  heh.  I particularly liked the shovel technique.

The begining is so technical it really made me wonder. The second part did give it away.

Also the site that's producing the article really feels "authentic".. I haven't read other articles yet but I wouldn't be surprised if we'd find other good subjects as this one.
