Hey all, I've been reading some threads on the TOR boards and also popping through different products from Amazon, but I'd like some opinions of people that are of similar mindset to me.. AKA all of you.

I have been looking into getting a new mouse specifically for gaming, with all the extra buttons and such, and would like some personal recommendations.  :ime

If it's for MMO gaming then you'll find the highly specialized Razer Naga which comes in Naga, Molten, and Epic forms and they'll be making one of the same specifically for SWtOR with the same functionality as the Epic. http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/DisplayCategoryProductListPage/categoryID.37466100 and http://www.razerzone.com/swtor/mouse

Cyrian

Do you have personal experience with Razer products?  I've only ever used logitech, so I can't even assume.

I am using the Razor Naga right now. It is amazing. Although, it is true when it says it will take 10-15hrs of gameplay to get used to if you have never used a mouse with buttons on the side before. I like it though. I would never go back to a 2 button mouse now that I have the Naga.

My big issue with the Naga, those buttons look awful small on the side.. I have big manly man thumbs, is this an issue?

I, myself, have a Razer Deathadder and I'm used to using only 2 side buttons. Can't say anything about the Naga but the side-buttons do look a bit small.

Cyrian

I was looking at the Deathadder as well, looks like a good starter gaming mouse, nice reviews too.

It's a pretty good mouse but it is at the low end of the gaming spectrum. I doubt I'll change it for a while because I'm going to be getting the SWtOR gaming keyboard for MMO uses.

Auric

I'm curious when they're actually going to start selling the Swtor based products. Seems kind of strange to wait until after release to start selling them.

Cyrian

I'm sure they'll be plugged out at or close to the release date, they look really badass though.

Agreed, now I just have to justify paying that much money for this gaming gear  :-\ In the end I just don't think I can spend that much on a mouse. Perhaps I will have to hit some people up for a fancy mouse christmas gift :p

I'm confused by the keyboard.
If you have that, you don't need a mouse, right?
Because it has a touch pad right there.
But how do you move, with the touch pad, and use the hot keys above it at the same time?
The opinions expressed here are my own and I have my wife's permission to say so.

Exactly. Gaming mouse is better. I find the buttons on the side of the Razor Naga to be of decent size. You just need to acclimatize yourself with how they are spaced so your thumb can go to the one you want automatically. I again stress it does indeed take 10-15hrs of gameplay to get used to a Naga. But after you will never go back.

I use the Razer Naga. Love the side buttons, although I really only use 1-3 with any regularity.

My older son has one of these:

http://cyborggaming.com/prod/rat9.htm but he does a lot of FPS stuff, and it's got a lot of adjustments (including weight) that are great for sniping.

For SWTOR, I think the Razer Naga is just about perfect.

Am I just too old to get it?  What is the purpose of the twelve buttons on the side of the mouse?  What benefit do I get from those as opposed to my keyboard?

They represent 1,2,3...0,-,=

So you can keep your left hand on WASD for movement and your right hand on hour mouse and not have to move your left hand from your movement keys to the number keys to activate abilities OR click on them which hinders your movement as well. With a Naga you can move normally and activate all 12 buttons [24 if you set it up for ALT keys].

And that RAT9 looks like it would do the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs.  ???

I don't PvP often, but when I do... I get killed a lot because I don't stay in constant motion. I've gotta learn to keep those fingers on WASD, so I'm always moving/strafing. Then mouselook and activate powers with the right hand.

I don't think I have the manual dexterity to pull off 12 thumb-buttons very well.

As someone who used to ride a motorcycle, I think I need foot pedals! Sorta like a piano. Give me three pedals for each foot to represent 1-6, make mousebutton 4 the alt key (for "alt 1-6" with my feet), make mousebutton 5 ctrl key (fot "ctrl 1-6" with my feet).

After some practice, I might be able to "pwn a noob" with that setup!

Oh... who am I kidding. I'll be over here harvesting for seven straight hours... call me when the PvP is over.  ;D

Just don't ninja my node while I'm fighting the mob off! I'll go all Defiant on your ass! ;-)

You see a node. :---
You engage the mob near the node. :mf_swordfight:
You turn around to mine the node,  :bdg
but alas there is no longer any node,  :o
because, utilizing a terrain exploit to mine the node from inside the ground  a level 4 gold farmer has already taken it.  :'(

I just got a Naga Razor a few weeks ago.  Tonight I have been test driving it in an mmo setting for the first time.

If you can become semi-dextrous at thumb typing on a smart phone, then you can work the buttons on the Naga Razor.  I have fairly wide thumbs and I seem to be clicking the buttons fairly well thus far.
