All my chat rooms will be rated XXX. To enter you will be required to whisper the super-secret password through your ball-gag and prove that you meet the minimum requirements for lube and rolled oats. Also, the safe-word is armadillo.

I apologize for the past and future, I know I have a terrible potty mouth and have been training myself lately to stop dropping the F Bomb so much.  I am truly sorry to anyone I may have offended.    :(

Someone raised the topic with me that our language in voice chat has been a bit rough.  I'm paraphrasing.  It's up to that individual if they want to raise the topic directly or not, but I've noticed the same and I'm guilty of it myself.

Saga hasn't had voice chat in the past.  So I know there are some new folks here who may be reluctant to step on old issues, but there's no precedent to defend, overturn, or reference.  This is just something we need to figure out.

In the past, the position I've taken is this.  That I don't want to tell people they can't or shouldn't swear, but at the same time we expect people to be aware of who might be listening.  Some people have voices on speakers.  I know I've inadvertently sworn in front of young children in other games as a result.  And I feel bad.

I'm not the best person to lead this topic because my language is often bad anyway.  I can't pretend to set a good example.  But speaking as someone who inevitably will swear sometimes over chat, if we wanted to adopt a rule that we keep a relatively clean channel I wouldn't be opposed to that rule.  I'd fail at it sometimes, but I'd try to respect it.

I guess I'm just saying that I'm open to any outcome here, and I'm not sure what rules, if any, are most in keeping with Saga's general character.  Feedback most appreciated - not least of which from Raven, since he is generously hosting our chat and is there probably more than anyone.

I think in general, you need to be respectful of other people who might be listening in. However, I also don't want to be the thought or voice police; you have a right to swear if you feel it necessary, and everyone else has a right to judge you based on how you communicate.

This is a family style guild, we should all be on the page of trying to be friends and get along. Just try and reign it in a little if you're talking on open channels or with people that you aren't sure are comfortable with random profanity is all we can really ask. Also, on the other side.. try not to be overly offended if someone drops an f-bomb occasionally, or be aware that might happen when So-and-So logs into Voice Chat after a bad day at work. Being friends is about compromise. You try and be less offensive, and also try and be less offended and we all grow as a family and guild.

Does that sound like a fair policy in general?

Of course, Raven's specific policy trumps this on his server, so do what he says in there. :)

QuoteLobby is G rated no swearing at all. If you post a link in text and it is R rated. Let the room know.
Cantina is R rated. It is ok to swear here. It is a hive of sum and villainy.

But doesn't this set up an us and them situation?

I'd really prefer to go by what Namae suggested, rather than labeling channels R (Cantina) and G (Lobby):

I did it this way because every one starts in lobby. When you log on that is where you are put. I see most people moving then to cantina. But when they are ready to. Then people do not log on to the mumble and get hit with the f bomb. All so, new people getting on mumble will not be shocked by what they hear. It is set up more as away to keep us aware of what we say. Not a way to separate us.

We don't allow excessive swearing on the boards, I don't think it should be different just because it's live.

On a board (or in a chat channel), you can think about what you are presenting as you type, and you can edit it before you post.

In live speech, most people tend to talk however they talk. I don't use four letter words in public or at work, but when I relax around friends and family... I occasionally do. Because all my friends and family do too.

If all of Mumble were G-rated, I'd have to police how I talk and what I say. In other words, Mumble would become a public/work environment for me, not a social/fun place for me.
I feel the same way. With that being said. I all so, feel we should have safe guards in place. That is why i did it this way. I will never not group with some one because they do not swear. I do not think anyone else will either.

So long as we can segregate ourselves into channels based on our level of comfort with obscenities, I think there shouldn't be any problems.

Look for me in the Cantina, but be ready to plug your ears and hold your tongue if I offend you there.

Well that was certainly a surprise to see. I wonder how much reading that guy actually gets done.

Dammit, Mixxi, my eyes had just recovered from the last time that image made the rounds.

omg... why does that image keep popping up every time I google for halfling porn?

Ok - word of advice - dont do that, because I just did and well ...

Yeah, I was kidding about Tuppen's pic being in the search results, so don't do that (unless you're really into hafling porn).

However, the dark side of the Force told me that if I used the words "halfling porn" in a thread containing that picture, some crawlers might cause it to bubble up to the top of the search results one day.

I need someone to keep me from playing on the Imperial side ever again.  It's clearly a bad influence on me.

Jasyn, you are here by ordered to stay away from Vifi. I fear what you two might do.
And Mixxi. Really? Again? I have that as my wall paper. I don't need too see it here too.
The opinions expressed here are my own and I have my wife's permission to say so.

What people may not know about Ryalnd, is that when he says the nekkid Tuppen halfing pic is his wallpaper, he is not referring, to his computer desktop.

What he really means is that he paid several thousand dollars to have a huge printing made of the image, mural really, on custom wallpaper. It now covers the entire western wall of his living room.

Let's all take a moment to be thankful that at least Tup wasn't standing over an air vent, like the famous Marilyn Monroe blowing skirt picture.....
