Pedekele

Greetings wanderers,

I'm Pedekele.

I'm a technical designer in continuing education to become an engineer.
23 Years old, living in Liechtenstein (next to Switzerland, Europe).

My experience with MMOs:
Since I was little, I loved RPGs and wanted to experience them as a multiplayer.
Soon after i had that thought EQ1 came out. I barely got to play it, because of my young age.
But I played EQ2 since launch and i played if for 3years.
I played various MMOs since that time but EQ2 was just the best till today.

I've recently heard about Saga and after a quick chat with Mixxi on the EQNexus forums, I decided to sign up on the Saga forums.

I might join you guys and we'll have lots of fun together, it depends:

Under normal circumstances I honestly wouldn't fit to Saga.

  • I play mostly in a different timezone, I've experienced playing in a NA guild before though.
  • I used to RP, play Pen&Paper for a bit, but theres a little problem:
My native language is German and I'd describe myself as a very eloquent person,
but even though my English isn't bad, I just can ever be as eloquent in English which is a annoying at least to me.
  • I usually play more on the evil side.
  • I'm very confident in my skills I love PvP the most but I'm also a dedicated Crafter/Raider,
I usually pick my guild by attracting players of equal skill, that way I wind up with the best PvPers for example. And I'll do that in EQN.
  • I'm torn about what server to join because I have friends with different preferences and I wont see them all for sure.
But!
I'd like to see how a guild with such old roots as Saga feels. So I'm interested to join you for Landmark only, if I end up on the same server.
I think its possible to fit in your guild, when it comes to landmark, since its a more casual MMO.
I'm a very creative person and I love to build. One of my goals for landmark is to build dungeons that have interesting puzzles/riddles.
I'm flexible enough when it comes to alignment.

Since EQNL isn't a traditional MMO, we can have loads of fun together!

So gear up and get ready! :viking2: :police: :--- ----(-o

(PS: There is no Introduction-subforum that I overlooked right?)

Mixxi

You're good here, Pedekele! I'm glad to see you made it over from EQNexus.

And, folks, I just wanted to point out his bit of Pedekele's introduction...

Welcome Pedekele! Make yourself comfy, and hopefully you may find Saga a good home.

One possible question....do you enjoy pie? I know pie isn't big in Germany. Kuchen is fine and all, but there are some militant pie people in Saga...watch out.
;D

I think you will find some kindred spirits here who are very into the upcoming EQLandmark. I suspect we will have some really interesting creations within the guild. (And puzzles!)

In fact, if you have not already seen it, Askari's Youtube video of Saga's current guild hall in EQ2 will give you a good feel. (Or even better, if you have a character on Antonia Bayle, pop on in.) Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhYeQ0Px4qw

Welcome! Please, stay a while. We'd love to get to know you better!

Also, I live in Australia, so I know from experience the time zone hurdles. But Saga do well to attempt to get around them as much as possible.

PinkRose

Welcome to Saga guild!

Please be sure to read the posts stickied at the top of these forums and be sure you agree with the rules and charter. This guild has a history, as you will see. It is, well, a Saga.

Saga is also part of a multi-game guild formed when a few wandered off to try other games. Sister guilds have formed, and we all come here to check on each other. This multi-game guild is currently called SagaFamily. We are indeed a family.

To become part of that, please take the time to fill out the attached roster card and post it to this message. This procedure is for the others here so they can get to know you. You do not have to fill the roster card out to be part of Saga in-game. You can do it now or in the future. You can fill one out even if you do not wish to join the larger family. There is no pressure, and no rush. Take your time and look around.

As an Initiate, you should now have access to the private game related forums, such as questing and crafting disciplines.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Welcome!

@Corsair:
About pie, we have all sorts of pastries here. And I have a sweet tooth.
I think Europe is a great place when it comes to food.
Cooking is a big passion of mine.
Tarts, Kuchen, Wähen, Strudel, Torten, Törtchen, Roladen, Schnitten - we got everything even Pie in so many variations.
Ever heard of the famous "Linzer Torte"? Comes close to Pie, right?
I wouldn't refer to the Linzer as a Torte, because Torten have to have lots of cream,
the terminology for pastries is quite random around here - some people refer to everything as Kuchen because its such a generic word.

As you can see I might be the most militant person around here ^_^
(that's a challenge for all of you to prove me wrong)

Its a nice guild hall, one of the nicest I've seen.

@Talon
Well, It's a pity we don't know more about Landmark yet. Since it's hard to plan with what I know so far.
Complete destructability would make many puzzles i thought of obsolete.

But, here's some vague thoughts:
I wanna make some riddles that have multiple ways to solve, so i can hide a alternate path in a riddle.
For example i want a dungeon that has huge, heavy, locked doors and you can't enter them (yet).
Theres a hole which leads into the dungeon,
you fall though several floors (rooms and hallway that are all blocked by those doors, the only way leads down though the hole).
On the bottom of the hole you find yourself on a pile of rubble in a big room with two huge statues.
The statues block two paths,
one leads to a stairway (the lower part is filled with rainwater that fell though the hole for a long time it appears),
the other leads to some sort of arcane generator which you can turn on
(might turn on suddenly as you enter the room and fills the dark room with the glow of arcane lights).
Now that the arcane generator is active the doors have power and you can start exploring the dungeon
(hopefully you cant just dig through walls and make any riddle or monsters blocking a way obsolete).
As you progress one floor you come back to a hallway you fell through earlier (statue-room below you).
The floor is missing and you cant jump to the other side.
Now you should realize that you can get to the other side if you push the statues,
that you had to push earlier to enter the rooms, in a way that you can jump from head to head to the other side.
To do so you also need to remove the rubble.
If you get stuck cause you cant solve the puzzle you can dive through the underwater stairway
and find yourself outside the dungeon ruins at the lake next to it.
(text isn't the best medium to explain these things.)

Well that's just a little taste of what I was thinking about for a possible start.
I wanna make riddles using all the capabilities of a EQN(&L) character,
but I don't know much about it yet. For example How far can you jump?
(what items could you have on a certain tier which could break the riddle?)
Also If we can design quests theres so many more forms of riddles to solve which can be vocal or textbased. Its a huge topic.

The timezone could become a major problem for me.
I used to group regularly with 5 people on a German server in EQ2 for a bit and it was so awesome to have all logging on at the same time.

@PinkRose
I'll read the rules and such right after this post as I fill out the Roster Card for Saga.
I'm intrigued to learn more about you guys and read about your stories and share a few of mine. Thanks for all the info.

@Mixxi
Thanks again and you were right about PinkRose hooking me up with information.

Mixxi

*reads Pedekele's latest post*

*ponders*

*concludes that engineering student + Landmark = dangerous combination!*

Pedekele

@Mixxi
I guess its a little advantage. A professional programmer might be a lot better though.
Since I only use certain software in my job and that's not very helpful for landmark.
I doubt that CAD skills will be much help. Planning skills are probably the only thing that directly applies.
We are stuck on the first step of planning: Gathering Information.

Roster Card for Saga

Please write an introduction to your character.
Name: Pedekele (no last name)
Title: Breaker of Immersion *jk*
Race: To be determined at launch (Probably Elf)
Gender: Female (I'll play pretty much the opposite of what I usually would pick: Evil Troll Male)
Profession: Jack of all Trades/Adventurer
Alignment: neutral/good
Crafting: (eventually all tradeskills)

Do you have alternate characters on the same server?
There isn't even a server yet.

How did you hear of us?
Read about you on EQNexus (Mixxi's post)

Is there anyone you have gotten to know from our family, IC or OOC?
Barely talked to anyone yet.

What Roleplay games have you participated in?
The only thing worth mentioning is a Pen&Paper, DSA.

What are you looking for as a member of our guild?
I'm interested in Saga, since its such an old guild.
I'd like to share the joy of playing landmark as a community.

Have you read and agree to our Guild Policies and Guidelines?
I've read the pinned threads in "Rules FAQs and Documentation" and "EQNext & Landmark Public Room"
Also "Rules & FAQS" which is pinned in OOC/OT.
As well as "A Reader's Guide to Tavern Hopping" which is pinned in SagaFamily Tavern.

You guys got quite a set of rules as expected of such an old guild, and I agree with the rules.

Please answer the following three questions, IN CHARACTER:
First i have to say: I'll keep this vague since we don't know enough about the game yet. And I don't wanna RP myself straight in a deep hole.
Pedekele used to be a red beast with long nose/chin and pointy ears but has been reborn in this alternate dimension of EQNL as an (probably-)Elf girl.

Tell us of your past.
I grew up as an orphan, in one of the combines orphanages. As i grew i worked for the combine to pay off my dept,
I had to do all kinds of jobs (including everything from handyman to guard in these tough pioneer-times) for them which made me become a jack of all trades.
Since i repayed my dept, I'm free and only the gods know what adventure lie ahead of me.
What hobbies and quests do you presently have?
I'm on the quest to find happiness for myself. I like to joust and all sorts of tradeskills interest me.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
As a young elf I have no idea, hopefully I'll become a rich merchant.

I tried to fill in the roster but it might be not good enough yet. I'll wait for feedback.

tanare

welcome aboard and don;t worry about being eeeeeeevil. most of my characters end up on the bad guys side anyway :)

i like your dungeon ideas, then the best part will be when people complain "cause they're too hard!" on the game forums then you know you've done your job well :)

my own thoughts fall along the lines of small hidden shrines cause i'm 1) lazy and 2) i get bored too easily to do anything overly complicated and 3) it's been 15 minutes now, i need to play one of my other characters now (aka "alt-itis")

i tend to play off times since i work nights so i'm usually on late AM/early PM Eastern time which i find synchs up with european time fairly well so i may run into you a bit.

Pedekele

Nice to meet you Tanare!

I have mixed feelings about that, I'm all for hard content and i intend to make stuff as challenging as i can. but people compaining/whining until stuff get nerved is just ...  :tickedoff:
I'm totally against dumbing down of video games and i think the difficulty of an MMO should range from very easy to impossible content.

I totally understand that, and I actually start small as well. Lets say the whole entrance thing is one small project and the riddle in the next room is another small project, in the end I try to tie parts of it seamless. If you want something to become big, start small and just keep working and in the end you get ingenious results. It's like a drawing it takes time to become good. Also if we divide things up, we can make it a guild effort to create a dungeon and everybody can make an individual part and work on it in their time zone. (if you guys would fancy such a project.)

I'm looking forward to seeing you around.

Bah. And EQII for three years, right? (We consider that an RP game around here.)  :)

Pedekele

@Mixxi
Yeah, I did RP on occasion as I played EQ2.
