Your favorite monsters/mythical creatures?

As you progress through an RPG you encounter all kinds of creatures and such, starting of by slaying rats and slimes until you're so mighty that you can slay demons and dragons, beat the mighty empires army and even defy gods sometimes.
I'd really like to hear what kind of creatures (also includes: gods, bandits, all possible NPCs) you like and want to encounter in future games and why you like them.
So let's have a talk and post some pictures.

I like this one, cause its kinda funny and since i played a fair amount of JRPGs i like all kinds of mushroom enemies as well as plant based enemies.
(And their big repertoire of status moves.)

The "judges" from FF12, had really nice armor. i like that its influenced by samurai armor and european knights armor and some fantasy. To bad that machines armor and such usually don't work, i mean that i can see the design flaws pretty fast, which kills immersion a bit.

This one is from Monsterhunter, they have lots of cool concept art.
I love all kinds of sea beasts, this "sea snake dragon" is just awesome. (sailing should be part of more games than just LoZ: Windwaker)

Awesome "ape like winged demon" from DnD. It's so obsucre.

I tried to mention a variety of things to start this.
There's so many awesome concepts, let's go nuts and have some fun O0

It's so cliche, but for me it's all dragons.  Dragonlance was my favorite fantasy world and I always included some of the chromatic dragons into my campaigns.    Love looking at the reds, some amazing art out there.

It's interesting. I really like dragons too, but i always wondered why dragons are so popular. Since theres so many awesome creatures.

I forgot to mention: Probably my favorite monster idea is giant (massive huge!) plant eating beasts roaming huge plains, they are ignoring your small existence just like elephants (but huge!). Imagine a noobzone, the plains, where you come back to much much later to beat those things. I like it when such small things are build around a monster to make it more interesting.

Edit:
I also like dragon like creatures.

The lindworm. (basicly a dragon with cool name and lore)

The hydra.

The basilisk/cockatrice. Both with petrifying gaze.

Dinosaurs. (for the lols)

And all the others.

Tarrasque! Wakes up every now and again, goes on a rampage, eats some cities, then goes back into a food coma. Nothing stops it.

And I always likes the Hectoncheires because on a challenge rating scale of 0.25-20 he is 57! Highest Challenge Rating in all of D&D. He is so amazingly more powerful than any god, titan, demon, angel, etc.

I've always been fond of sentient weaponry, of any kind. Swords that speak to the wielder, ancient golems built to defend a relic, or even high tech guns with A.I. targetting systems, they are all cool. Immortal, and full of purpose, but always needing a wielder... they're like bottled adventure, just waiting for you.

Also, there are some insanely statted 3.5 D&D monsters out there Val Gith. Check out this link to see some with truly crazy large stats. I like Ouroboros, the Tail-Devourer, the Dragon Lord of Time myself, but then I'm a dragon fan too. That turtle down at the bottom is pretty nuts, but it's suppose to mathematically represent how tough it would be to kill a planet sized object with HP damage.

Ouroboros
QuoteCosmic Consciousness: The senses of Ouroboros extend to the borders of the current universe he inhabits, although he cannot see around corners or through opaque objects.
Can see all of time and space but not 5' around a corner. Hmmmm. Plot hole!

I like all of the above.

I think one of my favorite types is shadow/darkness creatures. In particular, I enjoyed the extraplanar void monsters in EQ2's Ruins of Varsoon (Chamber of Immortality) and a few other places. When standing still, they looked like the cloaked silhouette of a shadowy humanoid that emanated darkness. But when they moved they looked like crazy, alien shadow-insects. Even the corpses emanate darkness until you loot them and they de-spawn. I thought that was a really cool touch.

I couldn't find a good picture of them standing still, but here is a picture of them moving. The fact that they emanate darkness is fantastic.
http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_horror

Here's some YouTube video of them in action. The players talk about it "getting dark" and wonder if it is a debuff or glitch, but the monsters actually emanate darkness (and their staging area gets light again as the corpses de-spawn).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xGsWrWgpcrU#t=91

I couldn't find a good picture of them standing as a humanoid silhouette. The creepy effect of a human silhouette turning into a bug was also used in the movie "Mimic".

Another example of shadow/darkness creatures would be the WoW warlock pet: voidwalker. They were a bit cartoonish and their bracers ruin the stealthiness that being a shadow should bring. But I did love the dark cloud emanating from them.

From GW2, the Shadow Behemoth would qualify as a good darkness/shadow creature. But I find it sort of large and gaudy, instead of dark and sinister. So it's not a favorite example of the type.

My favorite shadow monsters are ones where you can't tell they are there if the room is too dark. Or where they look like they may be just a human silhouette if you see them out of the corner of your eye. Instead of shining blue/purple, they absorb light. That's why I like the eq2 ones so much.

I almost posted tarrasque myself, he's awesome. Hectoncheires, its just another great piece of greek mythology.

The giant tortoise as well as ouroboros remind me of Jörmungandr the world serpent.

Darknessmonsters are really cool, I remember those from EQ2 well. I also like the shadowed man.
I also liked the hidden a lot. They are located in the depths of the cave, where its completely dark. they are invisible and only light can reveal them. They are incredibly creepy and can catch you of guard. Imagine you go around a corner and suddenly you are surrounded by the hidden. So awesome.

Another great dark creature the shadow doppelganger, which is basically a copy of you, a great bossfight.
Games like secret of mana/evermore and zelda have 'em. (actually many games have.)
I guess one could say its a mimic, a different kind than the treasure chest ones that are most common.

I'd like to see EQN have mimics according to their different types of chests. As well as other kinds of mimics.
In tabletop games Mimics could be doors or whole rooms, all kinds of things. Mimics, shapeshifters, formless*... all extremely awesome!

*I also like those kinds of formless that are immune to physical attacks, Slimes/blobs on some games. Its always great in an enemy has a certain unique trait.

A dark monster that gets attracted by light/noise and is really deadly, so you run around in the dark/hide/stalk around would be memorable.

How about mounts?

I always liked the watchers in the dark from Warhammer 40k. They were the weird little guys in cloaks that I think if you took the cloak away there would be nothing but darkness and warp energy under there.

I do have to agree though that darkness creatures that seem to absorb light and spread a cloud of darkness around them and sorta faze in and out of solidity are awesome.

If i would write a fantasy story i might use some kind of oracle in it. There are many types, so i'd try come up with something on my own.
Dont know much about luckdragons :P

@Elly&Pinky mucho kawaii wings!

@Jezerai Reminds me of Tantalus, whos called dark lich in the english version. His coat that looks like a portal to another galaxis is pretty unique and cool. Cyaea from the flop-game Diablo 3 has a nice design. Also some random undead dragon, cause they need some love too.

I just saw a cool gif with "shadow creatures" in it. The song and music video that the gif is based on is very cool and haunting.
