Lord British himself (Richard Garriott) sat down with Spoony, an internet reviewer who reviewed the entire Ultima series. This is apparently the first part in what will be a series of such interviews with some info about Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues, the Ultima MMO currently in development. Also, Angry Joe was apparently there and was the one recording.

Pretty interesting, and I look forward to hearing more about SotA. I never played an Ultima game, but they certainly sit among the most loved RPGs of all time (well, not all of the Ultima games), so I'm very intrigued.

Ultima Online was my first MMO, not counting MUDs and MUSHs.

Likewise, Pinkie.

Fond memories and that's not just the nostalgia glasses talking.

I've played a LOT of games in my life, but oddly enough... I never played any incarnation of Ultima.
EQ1-FV: Fnortner, Grimwyrd, Fumoto, and army of alts. BDO: Salamandros. GW2: Arkturo. EQ2: Panacea. RIFT: Nock. SWTOR: Croaker.

I'm in the same boat. I mean, they're old games, but I've been playing computer games since I was old enough to go to school, and yet I never crossed paths with the Ultima series. I feel... somewhat incomplete.

Ultima was slightly dry. Too medieval and not enough magic.
I like my fantasy fantastical, which is why I like EQ so much. It was just perfect as a setting for me.

It was my first knowledge of a graphical fantasy MMO. With today's hindsight it did a lot of things wrong but it was a pioneer.

There were good points and bad points, of course. In the early days PKing and griefing was a serious problem for peaceful players like me but even I can appreciate the danger and adrenaline their presence brought to the game.

Dry is right. No quests, no story except what created the world. But I still had fun. Players made their own enjoyment. Lots of RP back then, was great.

The stand-alone Ultima games are held as classics, particularly Ultima 7, I believe. They were good RPG fair. I only played 8 and 9. Nine was a bit of a disappointment but there were still aspects to love.

At this risk of being opinonated, Richard being involved in something outside of EA's greedy polution of the original series interests me.
