OK.. so I've had the Firefly Complete Series box-set since it came out.. but I've failed to watch it until this morning. And I'm reminded of how much I loved the theme song. I was really disappointed that it wasn't in it's original form in the movie Serenity.

I just wanted to say how much I loved the song. Did anyone else even watch the show? I'm just sayin.

I am obsessed with the show.... I want to marry Captain Mal... And I like dressing like Inara sometimes, much to the dismay of Hindu people...

I wasn't crazy about Serenity when it came out, I was expecting it to be better, but I still enjoyed it very much, especially finding out the back story on the reavers...

ooooooh Mal!

The only disturbing thing about the show was Jayne... He not only looks exactly like one of my exes, he acts like him too.... Scary....

I loved that song, too. And pretty much everything about the show. And as long as we're marrying the characters, I want Kaylee. She's so cute! :-)

Kaylee ( Jewel Staithe ) was also in an episode of Dead Like Me (which was also a great show ended way too early)

She is this goth chick who sleeps with one of the reapers.

Firefly was a great show. For Elsie and I, the nice thing about it was that it was fairly believable and gritty as sci-fi goes. I appreciated the utter lack of cheesy CGI, puppets and "aliens" who are just humans with a prosthetic vagina on their foreheads or a ridged nose or some crap. Serenity was... well it wasn't bad, but having watched previous Joss Whedon shows religiously, the mortality rate was predictable. Good movie on the whole, though.

Yes, Firefly. Arguably the best SF television series to date. After it got cancelled for reasons that are beyond me, Whedon condensed the entire remainder of a long, detailed storyline into a single movie, Serenity, so that the story could be told. You can probably get the series from Blockbuster.

Only to chime in because I started the board..

but yes Lyr.. the series was called Serenity, and oly 14 episodes were filmed, all of which are available for veiwing on the DVD collection "Firefly:the Complete Series"

And as Quince said, the whole story was condensed into the movie Serenity, which, I actually thought was very solid, although no sequel is planned.

I do want to chime in, that the WB basically cast a death sentence on the show before it ever premiered, playing the episodes drastically out of order, most notibaly not playing the Pilot first, but waiting until almost 3 months after the premiere ( and after the show was cancelled actually.)

I never meant this by starting this thread, because I really was just nostalgic for the theme song, but I hope I new people are introduced to the show, and come to appreciate it! Yay!

Firefly was a superb series ! I wasn't that impressed with Serenity, but it had such a tough act to follow after the series. It did ok.

Captain Mal is great, Jayne is excellent and Kaylee is just wonderful.

Lyrima, you can watch the series but keep in mind that Captain Mal is mine... And Sol's (on Tuesdays and off the ship)

It really is one of the best shows I've ever seen... I think the most convincing aspect of the show being "futuristic" was the fact that JW took into consideration that China is becoming one of the super-powers and in the future our fears become true: Only the US and China remain as superpowers, and everyone speaks English and Chinese. Lyrima, you'll get a real kick out of the dialogue. Everytime the characters curse, they curse in Chinese. I actually brought this up to one of my IR professors once and he found it really amusing... You know, the school system here is requiring that by 2008 it's mandatory for high school students to take Chinese Mandarin at public schools. They also kept in mind India, the second largest world population. You can see the Indian influences in the dresses Inara and the rest of the Companions wear...

The men were all hawt, the women were all pretty, but it was done in a way where it didn't seem obnoxious like a hollywood movie.... They were good-looking but in a rugged sort of way so that you didn't think it was too good to be true... Save for the Doc, the men were good looking in non-traditional ways, and the women were, too... I like how Kaylee was wholesome but a mechanic (without having to act like a tomboy)... And Inara was sexy but not at all in a Pam Anderson way... It's just a really good show overall, visually and intellectually...

I've probably watched it more times than I care to admit but I just can't get enough!!!

Morena Baccarin (Inara) is in Stargate now... And Captain Mal is going to be in a movie with none other than Starbuck from BSG!! I have no idea what's up with the others...

And when I say "US and China" being superpowers in the show, I don't mean the actual countries, but the languages and the cultures are the most predominant in the planets they visit...

Is it wrong for me to love hick cowboy-type guys? I love Texans, or Southern men, or cowboys... I think this whole "I'm an American now" thing is going overboard.... but omg, Matthew McConahwatever.....
