Peri

I need a different game to play.

I am pretty well burnt out on eq2 and need a break.

My muse is crumpled in the corner crying.

I had to delete an entire line by line critique of a 5000 word story because I was being too mean.

I don't even want to see anyone I work with and they are the only semi interesting people in convenient driving distance.

I am pretty much just bleh.

any suggestions for something fun and mindless to do? I don't even want to go shopping so something online

How about not a game? How about a good book or several movies?

When I can't take it anymore, I retreat from the whole medium.

I think of my gaming as a form of hiding. I hide my personality in my characters (all are significantly different than I am, I work for that to be so) but if that isn't working, I will find a good series of books to 'hide' in.

Do you have any authors you love? I know I asked folks on the old forum for their favorite books/authors and we had an AMAZING number of pages of great book ideas.

Best thing is, you don't have to go shopping for a book! Order online from Amazon :)

I also love HBO.  There are several very interesting series put out by them (Rome is a personal fave, as are Sex in the City and Sopranos) and THOSE you can get online from Blockbuster or Netflix.  Again, easy places to hide from life, but completely different from gaming.

I hope these ideas help.  I know something is up with you. I'm here if you need someone :)

Thanks Lyri I really apprecaite it. <we need a hug emoticon>

I have problems reading books when I have been writing or editing in the last couple days. Little style/grammar issues will ruin a great story for me.

I am my favorite author  8)

But I have read most of what is in the other thread you posted and I am glad saga has such good taste :)

I think movies and a good snuggle might be the cure I need. I have a coworker nearby with a big movie collection. Now I just need to avoid shoptalk and sex :)

We used to!  But the XOXO hates hugs, so he mysteriously "lost" the emoticon in the move...  and it was a BIG hug too...

My feel-good movies are:

Amelie
Sense and Sensibility (Emma Thomson version)
Bridget Jones Diary
My Best Friend's Wedding

And for single-player games just to have fun and waste time, I'm very fond of Star Control 2 (open source downloadable version here - http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php ), Alpha Centauri, Tetris, or The Bard's Tale original.  Oh, and Dungeonkeeper of course ... nothing like slapping around imps, building your own torture chambers and summoning rooms, and laying waste to pretty little villages with names like "Snuggledell" to cheer you up!   :D

Wroethgar

If you can find a copy of Fallout and Fallout2..

actually.. I need a copy of Fallout and Fallout2 and can't find 'em..  anyone got 'em?

PinkRose

Anyone heard of Vendetta?
I just found out about it today.
It's supposed to be a pure RP game.
know anything?
All I can find is Def Jam Vendetta and an old 90's game.

Star Control 2 is an oldie but a goodie.  I just linked it in another thread a few days ago.  Awesome story and an all around fun game.  Just make sure to disable the voiceovers when installing it (keep the music, ditch the speech).

As far as online games go, have you played world of warcraft?  I'm lonely and need someone to play with :(  *sniffles*

Imeriel

Vendetta Online you mean?  Here's the website:  http://www.vendetta-online.com/

Reading it over doesn't make me think really of "pure rp" (what is that anywho?) ... but the folks who play it may have something going on.  Dunno.  Appears to be a space-flight / simulation mmo thing.

Peri, if ya ever liked Magic the Gathering, I could send you a copy of one of the first MtG computer games out there.  I forget the name, but it had you wandering all over the land of Shandalar.  Fun if you like MtG.  Kinda buggy, but eh, free ;)

One of my favorite games to play, honestly ... when I want to simply play a game for entertainment and relax is the CSI series.  You get to be a CSI in the game and look for clues and process them and whtnot.  Very fun :)  Of course, I'm a CSI fiend *gets shifty eyes*

Otherwise, when I'm simply burned out in general ... I plan a "selfish weekend".  :)

Alwynn

I'd say Final Fantasy XII, but I am at the boss and can't beat him so screw that game.

Then I'd recommend Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but I just rescued Lliandra from Deathbird and saved the ship AND the Sh'iar empire and before I could save the power went out so screw that game too.

Grr.

PinkRose

You Grr sexy too, Beeker.

NWN 2 is fun!

Just when you're choosing a personalityin NWN 2, don't pick 'evil AND intelligent.' There aren't any dialogue options for that, because the writers forgot that possibility.  :P

Yeah, I was kinda noticing that.  I keep shifting my alignment up toward good because the smart response appears to always be considered the "good" response.

Ryzom Ring has an unlimited Trial...kind of Warcraft type character graphics...EQ type world graphics. Intersting character development options.

You could try any of the Station Pass games..most have limited trials...
Matrix Online = GREAT Graphics...ongoing story that updates about every three weeks.  COMPLETELY different character development and combat use...
SWG = Excellent game..poor ground graphics..Superb Space Graphics..LOTS & LOTS  of content
Planetside = okay FPS..gives you Dynamic Changing soldiers...
Vanguard = EQ1 type of game..i'm sure with differences..but it's the only station game i'm not playing...

World of Warcraft = Still going strong w/a new expansion coming out...Cartoony graphics, but less of a system drag then EQ.  Better crafting system then EQ.

DDO - AWESOME game.  Good classes, good goals, good rewards.  Definatly lacks some aspects of Roleplay..but those can be found if your really looking.

GuildWars = Excellent storylines...they've three expansions..each with a different world/story.  Well structured PvP, almost completely different then other MMO's with their Character development and grouping and zone use.  Very pretty, and no subscription.  Free to play online..you just have to buy the game....

BOTS by Acclaim is an intersting little game that's free.  You build a cute little colorful bot..and you take him through missions with others...

Other quick games...possibly Adventure Quest..(goggle them)...great game..new content...cute animals. And they have some other games too..same content, but different platforms...

And this has been a MMO & Online Video breakdown brought to you by Tanuvan

Other peoples opinions are important too.  But only listen to the ones who write bad reviews as opinion as opposed to straight negativity (THIS GAME SUCKS!)

* big hug for Peri*

If you want a game just to relax, enjoy the graphics and quests, not bother about rp but just enjoy exploring beautiful new places and doing exquisite combat moves or spellcasting with any kind of weapons, I suggest the free game SILKROAD from Joymax (you pay only if you want to buy special gear and points, absolutly not a must unless you are a power gamer). You can also choose to be a trader (yes picture a caravan or camels and horses) a thief ( yep attack those caravans!) or a ..defender? ( bounty-hunter and caravan defender as a mercenary). Lots to do and no stress and the game is constantly getting bigger, it's based on the historical silk road and they will add Europe eventually. Righ now you play chineese characters. I love the clothing and general look of that game, very refreshing. People from all over the world playing also.

Okay, when I burn out, two things that work:

1)  Stupid diamond game where I just sit and match up lines of three crystals and clear boards.  Forever. On and on.  I usually put on stupid tv in the background.  It's not mindclearing, it's mindabsorbing.  By the time you're done with an hour or two, you can't tie your shoelaces anymore.  Highly recommended.  I've got Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, from http://www.popcap.com/ (yeah, I paid for it), but they've got an online version too.  Find a stupid arcade game and turn into jello!

2) Get up and work out or go for a long walk.  Don't have a reason or a goal, just do it.  A lot of the chemicals that cause burnout and ennui can be, themselves, burned out, by excercise.  It may not seem fun or soothing, but you also may feel 100% better when you've done it.

3) Don't leave entirely, we love you!   :smitten:  Okay, that's selfish, but darnit, I'm a Scumbag*!  (*See crackpot quiz)

4) I can tell you about Small Animal Nursing in detail, and by the time I get to Orogastric Intubation, you'll be desperate for anything other than listening to me, and go back gleefully to work and your hobbies!

Um, at the risk of sounding like a brown nose, I adored the first Magic the Gathering.  When I tried to reload it about two or three computers back I had glopped some horrible substance on it and it was unworkable.  I have looked for a replacement copy with no luck.  Do you know where I can get it?
