1. It didn't come with anything loaded. I like that. Except I don't have outlook express..uh...anywhere.

How do I get outlook express on my computer? I can't even figure out how to BUY the software from MS. *cries*

2.  I have mozilla loaded on my new computer but all my bookmarks are on the old computer. The two are networked and I figured I could just move the bookmarks from the old to the new.  Apparently not.  I *think* I found the file with the book marks for the new ABS, but I can't seem to find them for the old XPS.

3.  Is there a way to quickly and easily transfer the programs and files that I use all the time (like my outlook express and my mozilla bookmarks, plus my online journal) from the old XPS to the new ABS?  I don't want them here anymore, I want them over there! *points*

PLEASE HELP?

i'm losing my mind between buying the new house and new computer.

I don't do well with change :(  Even good change :(

Wow... .. heh.. someone can't figure out how to use/buy Microsoft? What is this world coming to? Wait.. you should hear a knock at your door, let them in, it's an oppresive corporate entity!  :viking2:

Haha just kidding with you.

I know that educators get a special discount on Microsoft products, so maybe ask your supervisor at work or something? You can probably get a deal through the school. That is for full-blown Outlook, though (it comes with microsoft office). For Outlook express, I would guess that a quick google search could lead you to a couple places, but beyond that let's wait for smarter folks (like Namae or Adeste) point to "the answer". I just wanted to tell you you can get Office for cheaper if you wanted it :)

Lyrima

I actually have office. I used the version I had on the XPS for the ABS.

But my MS Office does NOT have express..it has outlook.  Just plain...outlook.

Thanks for the reply, tho :)

According to Wikipedia M$ has re-branded Outlook Express for Vista, if that is what you are running.  The new product appears to be called "Windows Mail".  If it isn't vaporware I would expect that it would have some sort of import utility for Outlook Express.  It might already be installed on your system.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could move to a free open source email client.  I think Evolution is the current popular option there, but I'm not sure it's running on windows machines.  There's also Mozilla Thunderbird to consider as well, it's from the same group that's responsible for Firefox.  Looking at the FAQ it should have an import function.

Or ask someone to slave your old hardrive to your new computer...then reinstall out of the Program files.  Gives you complete access to all those programs.

...that's what i did for my old/new comp.

THAT's the ticket Tan.

Would I need to have a service call guy come? or is this something I can try to do myself?

I'm not sure.
I had Ime do it for me.

I know it takes a particular Connector.  But i don't know if it's just plug&play or not.
But it does work.

Dee has it. If you're running Vista now there is no Outlook Express at all for your new OS.  Outlook Express was a free part of WinXP, and it came automatically on the default install. Now it's called "Windows Mail" but is basically the same thing: a stripped down Outlook.

As far as transferring things, you could use the Settings and Transfer Wizard. Here's some directions.

Or Vista comes with a newer, and supposedly even easier method they call 'Easy Transfer.' Lemme know your results on this!

Nono, I'm running XP on both machines!

Ime is a wise woman and she took the time to explain the difference between the OS.

I got XP on the new machine.

We are essentially talking XP pro to XP pro.

I'll check out those links, thanks Namae!
