Way to go, Italy!!

After 90 minutes of regular play and 30 minutes of overtime, the worldcup of Soccer came down to a show off.  Each team got 5 penalty kicks.  Italy scored all five, taking the win!!

What an intense game.  Congrats to Italy!!

It was a great game, though I HATE it when a team wins with last-minute penalty shots.. I really hate that...  I was rooting for Italy anyway but after all that hard work by both teams to let it be decided on who gets lucky (cause when you think about it, that's what penalty shots are) it really sucks...

However, Italy deserved to win after the headbutting incident by Zidane... What was that all about?  The only thing I can imagine that would have caused him to loose his cool like that if it was some sort of racial comment made by the Italian dude (Zidane is African)...  Still, no excuse...

omg and the Italian players are sooo hot....

yeah.  that does suck.  both teams did exceptionally, and i'd have to say that if france would have gone into a 3rd OT with only 10 players (zidanne out with the well-deserved red card) that italy would have taken them easily.

and what bothers me is that so much focus was put on zidanne's red card that took away from the excellent game.  even afterwards, they were showing a U2 music video with shots from the whole season and they showed several shots of Zidanne and his unsportsman-like conduct.  Like he did it just to get attention, which doesn't make sense 'cause he's a kick-ass player.  Really too bad that he'd announced his retirement before-hand and has to go out with this.

Penalty kicks are not luck.
Players get tendencies, they have tells, goalies have tendencies and tells.
It's all about knowing your opponent. JUst like the rest of the game.
One of the goalies in the WOrld Cup pulled out a cheat sheet he had stuffed in his sock the whole game, so he knew what he could expect from the 5 kickers he was going to face. He had really studied.
It's all part of the game.
