Journal of Katryna, Shamaness of Saga

Here is the story of Katryna, Shamaness of Saga, Daughter of Sowdier and Jackyl, Granddaughter of Abigail and Wolfram.

May the Spirits Protect You.

As the darkness slowly reached across the sky covering the last reminence of light you could still hear the far off clashing of swords, the Oasis never really went to sleep. Bands of hunters of all races joining together to extinguish the existance of the Orcs that populated the area. Closer to the shores people gathered to kill caiman and crocodiles for thier meals, others wasting the life of the caiman to advance their own skills of death. From where Katryna sat crosslegged on the wooden dock she could see representations of all walks of life working together. Some would come sit down on the dock by Kat and she would aid them with a little heal, or if she felt so inclined she would bestow upon them the wolf spirit and other benefitial magics.

Katryna loved to watch the others fight, since she herself could only fight so much and then had to sit for a long time to rest, it gave her time to learn from what the others did. Kat never talked to any one person for too long, ties to people was not something she was interested in anymore. Ever since her grandparents passed away Kat had travelled across Antonica looking for something but not knowing really what it was. Sitting there watching the comradory between the people as they delved into tasks she wondered, only for a moment though, what it would be like to be part of a large family.

A chill was filling the air and Kat decided it was time to sleep, tomorrow would start another day and she would practice more of the teachings her Grandmare had taught her. Since it was not safe on the docks to sleep, those sand giants would attack at all times, Kat swam out to the large pillar that was beside the dock and found a slanted rock half way up that she could comfortablely lay out her bedroll on. The sound of the waves gently caressing the pillar lulled Kat into a deep sleep.

Katryna was startled awake by somone climbing up the pillar but she did not see who it was. The sun shot down like a warm blanket and Katryna decided it was time to get up anyways, picking up her bedroll she fit it back into the backpack and proceeded to the dock to wash up and have something to eat. The fish smelt good cooking on the fire she had built on the shore, Katryna took out her water bottles and started filling them while she was waiting for the fish to finish. By the time she had returned to the fire the fish were ready to eat, and Kat was famished. After the the meal was finished Kat cleaned up her dishes and packed them then put out her fire. Feeling satisfied Kat went to the docks and started to call upon the spirits to prepare her for the day, next she sat down and meditated for a bit so she would be clear of mind.

Where the Sand Giants came from Katryna had no idea, she had missed their thunderous steps as her meditations took a deeper plunge. She knew that she should not of taken the chance here in the Oasis, danger always lurked not far away and to rely on luck was not something she put faith into. It was by chance that the Wolf Spirit still lived on in her body and with it she ran as fast as she could towards Southern Ro in an attempt to lose them, her breath coming hard and her legs unable to take another step Katryna collapsed to the ground and hoped the Giants would not follow as she would not be able to run all the way to Freeport for safety. Katryna slowly started to get energy back into her body, she was lucky this time, it appeared they did not follow, she would not take the chance again. After Katryna was feeling back to herself again, she decided to return to the Oasis to see if everything was ok, she was feeling abit out of sorts after her experience and decided just to walk around for awhile and see what people where up to.

The dock was littered with bodies from the giants' massacre not too long before, again Katryna is reminded of how lucky she was to be still here. There was no survivors in the area that she could help so she decided to walk along the shore amazed at how things just continued on. Just over the next hill there were people fighting caiman and crocodiles as usual, even those ogres where here and the sight of them made Katryna's stomach turn. Out of the corner of her eye Katryna noticed a Highelf sitting down and he had appeared to be hurt, as it was not in her to leave someone that way she decided to aid the poor fellow. After healing and the blessings of the spirits the Highelf invited Katryna to practice her skills along side him, his name had been Luktus but more than that Katryna did not want to know, which was good as they did not speak the same language. Katryna and Lutkus fought a couple of times together in the Oasis and a friendship was forged, something Katryna often chose to avoid, for when you had friends it meant the possibility existed she could also experience loss once again.

As the days went on Lutkus would show up and request Katryna to fight with him, and it was just after one of these sessions that Katryna was returning to the dock to rest up a bit before she decided what to do next, thats when she had first seen the monk. He was a shorter than herself, a shaved head and a aura that seemed to pull a person to him. She stood there watching him as he took on caimans and crocodiles with his bare hands, such fluid motion she had not witnessed before. Kat decided this was a man that would make good use of her magics and started calling upon the spirits to bestow upon him. Little did Katryna know that what she had done at that moment would affect her life and change it to the opposite of what she knew.

Katryna could feel the rain pelting down from the skies, it was like a blessing in disguise, this heat was not something she was use to and the rain was a release from it. She walked along the shoreline and looked for a good spot to sit as the rain was starting to let up and she felt fresh and ready for a fight. Katryna threw down her brown partially worn out backpack and and sat on it so as not to sit right on the wet sand, she then began to prepare herself for battle when she noticed she was not alone, there just ahead of her was the monk that she had seen the other day, the site of him causing a weird feeling to come upon her. She decided once again she would bestow upon him the spirits and as she did, he approached her and invited her to work along side him. They slew the caiman and crocodiles with such ease it amazed Katryna, the more times she spent with the monk the more she felt a pull towards him. Lutkus had come upon them and joined them, the three of them fought together into the night.

When Katryna could no longer keep herself from passing out she had said her farewells and turned to walk away, she did not want to leave the monks' side as the feeling she had while with him was amazing. She wondered if all monks had this aura about them or if it was this one monk who was special.

Kat had met the monk once again the next day, and again they fought together. It was while they were resting that Kat had used the time to learn more of this monk. Katryna had asked the monk many questions as he puzzled her immensely. She had learned that the monk had created a strict code of displine, the act of shaving his head everyday and sometimes more as the gods would make it grow at an excelled rate just to anger the monk and make him have to shave it again. The monk had loved greatly when he was younger and lost that love which created an anger within him that radiated all around, he blamed the gods for everything, this Kat thought was part of the reason he never did smile. Kat immediately wanted to help the monk fight the turmoil that raged inside of him, but she sensed that the true remedy could only be found within the monk himself and it would have to be him to find it.

Many days had passed since Katryna sat down to think about what had happened and what she forseen in the future. She had followed the monk to Fiona Vie and the people there amazed her, but along with the amazement came a feeling of dread, she did not like it there and found herself constantly heading to the boat and returning to Freeport to only return again when the summons had come to aid in fight. The monk had introduced many places to Katryna during her travels. During these travels she had made friends with Bindi who was the wife of Dondi and most lethal with a dagger in her hand and a glint to her eye, Ntallyia, a gnome wizard of amazing talents and a quiet nature, then there was Rorack the gnome enchanter who knew how to make a fight come out with us on the winning side.

Once when Katryna had returned to Fiona Vie as she knew she would be fighting there again, she ran into Lutkus, whom she hadn't seen since her days fighting in the Oasis. She noticed Lutkus had be given a last name and he seem to stand taller, more sure of himself, a note of steel in his eyes, had he become harder than the kind, gentle Luktus that she had known she wondered. Lutkus had asked Katryna to follow him to Lake Of Ill Omen as he would like to speak with her about something. Taking a seat by the stream that fed into the lake Luktus looked at Katryna and gave her a rose, then he asked her something she did not expect, he wanted her to marry him. Kat had been caught off guard as she never suspected Luktus had feelings like that for her. Kat looked at Lutkus and tried to imagine herself with him for the rest of her life and the only thing that came to her was a picture of the monk, knowing this she told Lutkus how special he was but she could not marry him as she did not have feelings like that for him. Lutkus smiled at Katryna and said he understood and she prayed that he did. Katryna stood up and gave Lutkus a big hug and told him that she would always remember him, then she turned and walked away heading straight to Fiona Vie and the boat. As Katryna got further away, in her thoughts she wondered did she really care for the monk as much as she thought, or was she using him to prevent her from getting close enough to someone as she never wanted to feel that pain her father felt when her mother died.

Katryna looked out into the darkening skies as she stood on the docks awaiting the arrival of the boat to take her from this place once and for all, at the same time wondering what the future would hold.

A small slip of paper runs along the binding with a jagged edge, proof of a page that once had been held but now was gone.

The messenger arrived breathless, after running through deserts and swamps and mountains. Without words, he handed Bippin a note, sealed in wax. Examining the note Bippin broke the seal and proceeded to read the message. Halfway through, his jaw drops, and he lowered the note. The messenger thought he could see moisture in the eyes of the hardened rogue.

"Katryna is back, she was seen in Freeport" said Bippin.
The messenger, of course, had no idea who Kat was, and was paid well not to know and not to care. But Bippin had to give his feelings some outlet.
"SHE'S BACK" he shouted, his voice echoing back from the mountains around...she's back....she's back....she's back....

Thanking the messnger, and tipping him well, Bippin started to break his camp in the Rathe mountains, heading for Freeport to look for his friend, he was afraid he lost

In East Freeport, a monk is seen to be holding a barbarian woman tightly, tears streaming freely down his face, a smile splitting his features.

"I'm so glad you're back," he whispers to her.

A orange glow reflected off the clear waters, creating a serene feeling to the approaching night. Kat looked away from the mesmerizing picture that lay in front of her, her eyes instead fell to her hands and stared at the destruction she held within her grasp. What had invaded her normal sense of control, how could her own hands rip out and destroy the pages she had so painstakingly wrote. Sighing in regret she picked up what was left of her journal, noticing a couple of pages still existed but for most just a small reminder that once a page even existed. On the next clean whole page that faced her she decided she would once again start her journal, this time she would not be so careless, she would treat it like a chance to start anew.
