EMergent AI is a term that is being used to describe the Artificial Intelligence in EQ Landmark and beyond.
Let's look at EQ2 or any other game up to this point.
Let's call it Static AI. The Orc stands at the door protecting it's castle. You fight it and kill it. It spawns later, standing at the door. You fight it and kill it.
Emergent AI, in theory, reacts to the world around it. If you and your group have been fighting in the castle grounds, maybe an Orc comes out of the castle to guard the front doors. When it dies, it dies. (Respawns will happen but not in the same place) ANd if you've moved into the castle, orcs will go in there instead of standing out in the courtyard like dopes while you pillage their King.

There has also been an example of giving a Mob a goal. Orcs want gold. That's what they do, so they spawn at their camp in the woods and then move out and seek gold. If there is a well used path that adventurers take from one town to the other, the Orcs will start amassing there, attacking travelers to take their gold. So the adventurers start going through the forest, and you'll see the Orcs start to attack in the woods.

Does that make any sense?

Yes, Pinks, that was very clear.  And the video was instructive as well :)

Thank you gentlemen!

I'm sitting RIGHT SMACK next to Blaek now (YAY!) so he watched the video too.

Nice.

My interest is piqued; happily the releases of these two, Next and Landmark, will side step ESO, so maybe I can play all three!

Still enjoying the heck out of Neverwinter atm.

Next won't be out for a year. That's my best guess according to the recent Q&A session.
Landmark, however should be out before February 28th for Alpha. (Inside joke for alpha forum goers.)

"Storybricks", under that term you can look up the guys that make the AI (there's also some youtube from beta).

My opinion in short: They offer AI that reacts to certain behaviors (will also work for combat). Aswell as NPCs remebering how you acted towards them and an easy to use interface for everyone to make your own "behaviors". Its cool but the logic that is used is that same as 10years ago more or less(the interfacemakes it only a tiny bit more accessible for beginners than it already was ages ago), it depends on you and the devs how awesome the behaviors turn out. There doesnt seem to be a limit the the number of different reactions you can give to an NPC you you can make them become pretty deep (same goes for combat). I'm certain playing with the AI youself will be fun for most of you, its easy i promise.
