Guild holo mark

Nothing really stands out for me as saga esque and half the time something that looks good on paper looks weird on display and vice versa

So for th first couple of months, I'm going to go with rotating guild holo marks until we find ones that we like and/or change it for special occasions like holidays , ppls birthdays etc

For now I'm thinking wary daw grazer and rainbow or crystalline shard ( or action kitty )

As we see them in action , down the line we will make a thread with the ones we liked seeing in game and we can bring those up in regular rotation or end up settling on one

Also to be noted , holo marks can be turned off

I can not imagine turning these on for any of my Exile characters. That being said, I dutifully looked through them to see if any of them struck my fancy.

I call this one: "Blasters and Baked Goods". I wouldn't turn it on, but I do find it amusing.




I might fly an icon like the following on a Dominion alt (just because it is relatively vague and menacing):

It's a very odd set of images. Some of them are so very specific and detailed.

When I was a kid, maybe 6th grade-ish, I wrote a huge paper on heraldry. By "huge" I mean 20+ pages of text and another 20 pages of diagrams. It was a big deal at the time, so it really stuck with me... even now >30 years later.

Heraldry had such a major impact that its rules are still generally followed today by sports teams and advertising agencies. Although "fashion" has started to tear down those walls in American sports, in order to sell more apparel.

Heraldry is all about battlefield identification (even if that battlefield is a sports arena or marketing). One of the most important rules for quick identification is the Rule of Tincture, which is largely about contrast. "Metal shall not be placed on metal, color shall not be placed on color."

In the case of European heraldry, "metal" was represented by white (silver) and yellow (gold). The colors were red, blue, green, purple, and black. Using combinations of colors with white or yellow provide excellent contrast, for quick identification.

Quick battlefield ID also requires simple geometric patterns. Various stars, circles, stripes... and maybe the profiles of animals are all fine and good, but once you start using detailed images... the ability to distinguish drops significantly. All you have to do is go to the page and make the WildStar icons xtra-small, and you begin to realize this is not a battlefield ID system.

WildStar seems to be going more for a sci-fi holographic advertising feel, which is fine. But even advertising tends to follow heraldry rules. They often keep their logos simple, high-contrast, and easily identified. Simple shapes like the AT&T sphere, McDonald's arches, the Nike swoosh are quickly and easily identified.

Anyway, I'm just babbling. It's just one of those things where I look at the WildStar icon system and think, "No, no, no! This is all wrong. It wouldn't be like this."

Yeah, I'm definitely longing for simpler images and shapes. I think GuildWars 2 actually did a pretty good job on their guild logo system.

I enjoyed the GW2 heraldry and felt they gave a good deal of options and looks.

I like these, especially the baked goods one. I wasn't a fan of most of them at least not in a serious way so, second to that I liked all the ones with treats >.>

Wow, the holomarks are certainly... something.  I like them, I think they're cool, but as a roleplayer I cannot see wearing anything the holomark generator produces in character.
